“We go to Nick's 2-3 month to pick up basic household items or for our It's It fix. When we are in the mood to bake, Nick's has a small but impressive baking section including Guittard baking chocolate and various flour options. For celebrations or just making it through the week, there's a good selection of wine and spirits. I needed a cauliflower for a soup but they ran out and the very next time Charlie saw me, he told me they had a recent delivery. Charlie and Louie are such nice and helpful guys.”

“This shop means I do not have to go to Safeway or any corporate chain stores. The staff is knowledgeable and friendly. I go often to get my kombucha refill with new flavors and same for the yogurt. Both are delicious. If I were more of a cook, I would make even better use of their great selection of pantry items. But I do get most of my non-food stuff there. Things like body wash, hand soap, dish soap, tooth paste tabs, laundry detergent, dishwasher detergent. And it is also in a great neighborhood.”

A bit overpriced but comes with the location. I hope this place can avoid the disasters that often come with opening a new business in Oakland. Protect this place!”

But what I like the most and is a game changer for me is and overall niceness. “Rincon Latino is a market I stopped by for ingredients when doing some of my cooking adventures when I lived in Albany. The store was easy to spot from the street and the parking lot was easy to maneuver in to and out of. Offerings spread a variety of grocery items and included produce and meat. When asking for a cut of meat from the butcher/meat case area, I was happy I had looked up in advance the terminology in Spanish for the cut of meat I was looking for as it turned out to be helpful for indicating what cut I wanted. Produce was fresh and worked perfect in the dishes I made. The interior of the store was well laid out with different sections clearly shelved without spreading into another section. Produce sections were located both outside of the entrance and inside the store. Payment was straightforward. All of the workers we interacted with were friendly and professional.”

“This was a lovely find on my walk down telegraph waiting for my child's hairstyle. They have cheese making supplies, pickling, and sourdough starter. I bought some super cute mason jar lids. I had just lost all my lids somehow so it was a pleasant surprise to find. The person working had a very thoughtful and very patient conversation with someone on the phone about cheese making while I was shopping. I hope to be able to attend one of their classes. They are held in the evening so childcare might be an obstacle. 10/10 highly recommend!”

“I live in the neigborhood and this is my favorite grocery store for everything. First the owners and staff are friendly, kind-hearted and sweet. Their produce, meats, eggs, cheese are lovely. Plus they carry my favorite triple distilled ice and they have any drink you need for your friends and family. I also like their specials for "special bottles." And finally...shop local, do it now!”

“If you don't already shop at The Food Mill, you should start. It's a health food store that's been in Oakland since 1933. My current obsession is their crunchy peanut butter. You get a giant jar for under $10. It's freshly ground, so fluffy, nothing is added, and no stirring is needed! They also have a thousand bulk items, hard to find ingredients, fresh baked treats, lots of tasty fake meats, and the staff is so lovely and helpful.”

“The first thing I noticed when I walked in is how this place smelled exactly the same as the butcher shop my grandfather would take me to as a kid in the country outside of Buenos Aires. That smell that only comes from a butcher shop that’s making the sausages fresh, cutting the beef fresh, etc. That’s how I knew this place was legit without even trying anything. I’ve since tried a few of the sausages they have and they’re amazing. Again, the taste reminds me of the taste of the sausages my grandpa would buy from this old butcher in the country. It’s a taste you only get from butchers with a true sense of craftsmanship. Reminds me of a simpler time. I highly recommend the sausages, the meatloaf, and stuffed chicken. The charm doesn’t stop there, though, Ron and his son Michael also give stellar customer service. Always a pleasure stopping by and supporting this local business.”

“I came to San Francisco on holiday from the UK as part of a road trip few days, and seeing as this was one of the few convenience stores near my hotel, I went to check it out. Although it's located in a tough neighborhood, and some from their customer base are unpredictable, the store employees maintain a level of helpfulness and professionalism which makes shopping with them very pleasant. The store is well stocked with such a varied selection of grocery items you would think they needed are larger places. The prices for their store items are not inflated as such is the case with some stores close to that location. Very nice and attentive staff. You won't be disappointed after shopping at Amigos.”
