Most crystal stores that buy from gem shows and have no idea where their products are coming from, so I feel far better about buying from The Stone Room.”

“This is strictly a repair place, not a jewelry store, in a strip mall that features massage parlors. Don't be put off by the unprepossessing atmosphere. John is a master craftsman who knows his business. I had a saga with an antique garnet and diamond ring that had prongs sticking up. First I took it to Pavé which had repaired earrings for me for $35. As I noted in an earlier review, they would charge $675 to repair the prongs, and recommended removing the garnet for another $325. That was about the price of the ring when I bought it, so I decided against letting them repair it. I took it to Kim's Watches and Jewelry Repair, where I had had a bracelet untangled for only $8. Mr. Kim didn't replace the prongs, but he bended them, for $40. I thought the ring was fine but the prongs began sticking up again. Mr. Kim again worked on the ring, and charged me nothing. But I knew the problem wasn't solved. When I saw the positive reviews for Underhill Studio, I took the ring to John. He carefully examined the ring and showed me photographs. Virtually all the prongs needed replacement, but not the center garnet. It took two visits, but he replaced all of them for $185. The ring looks great and I think the problem is finally solved. If you want an upscale jewelry store, Pavé is fine. If you want an expert who charges a fair price, try Underhill.”

“It's hard to find a good, honest jewelry repair shop, but I lucked out finding Prive in Pleasant Hill. Not only is the quality of work beautiful, but the owner John is so nice. I originally had gone in to have a watch repaired. John fixed, polished, and made look like new. I've gone back several times and more recently, I purchased a diamond ring. I wasn't seeing exactly what I wanted, so John offered to design and make it. He listened to what I wanted and made the most stunning setting. John is so very nice, patient, and reasonably priced. I highly recommend going to John at Prive. Thanks, John, for all you do, great work!”

I came to her with a ring I needed to have reset (and transformed). I wanted to keep some of the integrity of the original piece while also breathing new life/my own personality into it. I had an idea of what I wanted but no clue of how it would be geometrically feasible. Gigi (somehow) figured it out and it is GORGEOUS. It was not an easy design and it involved very delicate stones. Her design and her Goldsmith's work were phenomenal. We then turned the remaining jewels into a beautiful necklace. I want to do more projects with Gigi!”
