“Stopped in for some fresh produce and left with over $150 of fresh groceries. This is a family owned market that has everything you’d want and then some. Locally sourced produce, fresh, and clean. A bit overpriced but comes with the location. I hope this place can avoid the disasters that often come with opening a new business in Oakland. Protect this place!”
“This was a lovely find on my walk down telegraph waiting for my child's hairstyle. They have cheese making supplies, pickling, and sourdough starter. I bought some super cute mason jar lids. I had just lost all my lids somehow so it was a pleasant surprise to find. The person working had a very thoughtful and very patient conversation with someone on the phone about cheese making while I was shopping. I hope to be able to attend one of their classes. They are held in the evening so childcare might be an obstacle. 10/10 highly recommend!”
“If you don't already shop at The Food Mill, you should start. It's a health food store that's been in Oakland since 1933. My current obsession is their crunchy peanut butter. You get a giant jar for under $10. It's freshly ground, so fluffy, nothing is added, and no stirring is needed! They also have a thousand bulk items, hard to find ingredients, fresh baked treats, lots of tasty fake meats, and the staff is so lovely and helpful.”
“It's obvious that the people who run this place put care into choosing what they stock. I'm delighted that my neighborhood corner store has great fresh produce, dairy alternatives & bulk bins”
“A strong selection of products in a small store. Friendly cashiers. Many vegan and vegetarian options. It's never busy when I go in, which makes it easy to move around the store but I want them to stay in business so I'd like to see more shoppers in there.”
“Im in this store daily and im always greeted with a "hey how are you". Like today and tomorrow will be and so on and so on. Many hood stores are not this courteous to anyone especially the whiteboys but this place is very welcoming and delightful. Thank you guys I cant tell you how much I appreciate that.”
“This is a high priced small market that I occasionally patronize. It is good for its eclectic selection and butcher counter. I expect higher prices here, but the produce prices really are insane, and the quality is average. Also, the self-serve section is fairly low quality, given the tone of the rest of the store. I come here when I want convenience- easy parking lot, good meat & fish. By and large, I've experienced good customer service here.”
“Mandela is a small and quaint, grocery cooperative. They had a lot of fresh fruit. I suggest you check the discount bins. I was able to get some oyster mushrooms at a great price and tomatoes. The stuff is very friendly and extremely helpful. It's small yet I was found everything I needed.”
8AM - 12AM
Mash Building, 1913 San Pablo Ave, Oakland“A clean store, the prices are more than wonderful, the workers are very good, and friendly and there are a lot of snacks, drinks, ice cream and beer of all kinds, and there is also frozen food and everything you need can be found there”
“Is a liquor store!! Is not safe don’t go if you don’t live in the area but the cashiers are super nice and the homeless that hang around are very talkative specially this lady that seems to know me and my dog, if you don’t live around here avoid the area is not safe keep going a few blocks down is downtown you’ll find something over there”
“Every time I stop by this Minto's, I'm always like "Damn, I need to review this place!" So, here I am...FINALLY getting to it. Love, love, looove me some Minto's! I've been to one other location on Franklin street, but this location has actually been my go-to. I come here for the meat patties and the Big Bamboo canned Sea Moss. When I'm having a craving, I'll often drive to this market on my lunch break to get my fix. The only thing is, they don't always have the patties. It's best to call beforehand but... sometimes they don't even answer the phone. I like to just show up there anyways because I love perusing the market and grabbing random snacks. They've got all kinds of Caribbean snacks and spices. They also sell frozen patties in bulk that you can heat up for later. They switch up the meat patty flavors pretty often, so don't come here expecting to get one specific flavor. Also, this location is a market and not a juice bar or restaurant like their other locations. But, it still has a lot to offer. Service is hit or miss and really depends on who's working that day. Grateful that this market is so close to my job because it always hits the spot when I'm having a craving for meat patties.”
10AM - 8:30PM
2819 Telegraph Ave, Oakland“Great customer service, very warm and kind. The gentleman in the shop helped guide me through the purchase of a few ingredients needed to make tibs. I also discovered a new bread, which initially seemed like quite a large amount, however as the gentleman informed me, the bread can be frozen and when it thaws, it's just like a freshly baked "loaf". It's actually like a very thick and huge pancake. I couldn't wait to try it. As soon as I got home, well, that's precisely what I did. Stop by and try some new ingredients, to use in one of your meals, or at least try that bread..”
8AM - 9PM
1549 Jackson St, Oakland“It's creepy when your apps stalk you, but I didn't "recently try" this place; I first lived in this neighbourhood back when *MapQuest* was brand new in Ye Olde Dayse of 2005 :) This store and the health food store up the block both way predate that. I know everyone moving into places now probably just let out on Airbnb *clones* because the aforementioned site is one front of many for a problem of apartments posing as hotels all owned by companies that own from here to Greece--and then everyone just blames Asians like they do for anything ever despite where the problem is actually coming from--is expecting 59$/lb raw collard green salad with gluten-free chicken meat cooked in avocado flavoured artisan sourdough over unseasoned 7$/grain quinoa made with non-GMO water and a side of sliced, unseasoned avocado, but look, how many unique corner liquor store names are possible if they have to be short enough for a name but also contain "convenience" or "liquor"? This place has been this way long before hyperinflation of land value and resultant 3000$/mo bunk bed crowd. The people that work here, super chilled out, super honest, and stuff's still a fair price for this day and age at a corner store in the US. You're not getting organic salt here, and you're not gonna. Whole Foods is over past the 7-11 at the lake. But if you're out of disposable razors or paper towels or you read one of the local English newspapers or something, this is a good, solid, enduring place to go as it has been since before I had ever been in this neighbourhood. Their hours became earlier closing back during SIP and remain to close at about 8P.M. most days, it seems. So if you don't wanna leave the block or go to the health food store, make sure you've gotten it by then (and may close earlier on weekend, not sure) It's a convenience store and a solid one. I definitely recommend.”
“A neighborhood convenience store that doesn't sell liquor is hard to come by in West Oakland--but then I found Cypress Grocery. It's clean. It's orderly. Their supply changes so it's not always the same stuff, but they have convenience store basics and anything you might need to last you the night/or take you through a picnic. Best of all, they don't make up all their stuff for convenience. They do also sell some smokes. Service is good. Feels wholesome and safe which is more than what most places here are like.”
7AM - 10PM
1044 Willow St, Oakland“Amazing corner store operated by some of the nicest and genuine people you’ll meet. It’s a great part of the community, small businesses like this are essential to the fabric of the neighborhood.”
9AM - 5PM
241 10th St, Oakland“Tiny store with great variety of groceries, friendly and efficient staff, and great prices. I get my Asian biscuits and cookies at Hometown, as they are a little difficult to find elsewhere, and are usually over- priced if you do find them. Hometown also has locally made salted eggs.”
8AM - 10PM
3841 West St, Oakland“Drinks: AFood: B+Service: BThe burger grill is the best thing about this place, if you scared go to church cause this isn’t the place for you. Ask the cook to hook you up with that Good Good, the fresh cooked food is good, it’s a good place to grab a burger it supports the people in the area. Hope to see this place get better and better. It’s at an mini market.”
9AM - 10PM
538 9th St, Oakland“Serving the community since 1917 (10th Street Market), this residential and commercial area is listed as a nationally registered historic site. The market place has several restaurants, shops and markets. Some of my favorites are La Guerrerra's for Mexican dishes, Taylor's Sausage for meat and Cupcakin Bake shops for deserts and sweets. The vibe is so community and the service of the staff reflects it. I have been here several times and have a great experience each visit.”
“I had heard several recommendations about the burgers in this little market and they were right. The burger and fries I had today were excellent! All the food was fresh, fries were perfect and the service was friendly! I'll definitely make this my new burger spot. On a side note the mini market section has everything you might need on a moments notice, from snacks & ice cream to NyQuil and aspirin, although I didn't see dairy or bread items which is probably a smart thing since their 'expiration' dates are short,”
11AM - 7PM
5973 Shattuck Ave., Oakland“One of the best Himbasha (bread) I've had in a while... delicious and well baked! The quality of service and hospitality from the staffs is outstanding! I highly recommend this store!”
“Trader Joe's Lakeshore gets a solid 4 out of 5 stars. They typically offer fresh and well-stocked items, and the quick-moving lines make it great for swift grocery runs. The staff is approachable, and despite the occasional crowding in this smaller location, the overall experience is positive. The ambiance is lively, and it's conveniently close to Peet's Coffee, making it a nice go-to spot to unwind after study sessions. Overall, a reliable choice for quality and not too pricey products.”
8AM - 3:30PM
821 Washington St, Oakland“Ratto's..... I freaking love you!! Sandwiches are always well made, accurate, fast and awesome ingredients! You don't go light on the pesto. The bread is awesome! We use Ratto's all the time for company lunches and never had a sandwich made incorrectly.”
7AM - 12AM
3710 Telegraph Ave, Oakland“Convenience store with nice selection of basic snacks and beverages from ice cream to Champagne. As a bonus, this is a great place to get smoked oysters. Access is a little awkward on account of the bicycle lane and only three parking spaces in front.”
“It's a convenient liquor store off MacArthur. Why would anyone give it 1 star? Has every last minute you might need. Groceries, drinks, sundries, tee-shirts and even socks! Nice guy behind the register. Big parking lot. No worries!”
“I've been going herd every since I lived near there about 17yrs ago. I live in san francisco now but I've been going there from san francisco from about 15 years now just for the bbq when I don't feel like cooking......I LOVE IT”
7AM - 10PM
2900 Broadway, Oakland“I get the best deals at Grocery Outlet and often find items that I buy at Whole Foods at 1/2 the price or less. Supplements, vegan items, protein powders, great deals on these staples. I typically shopped at the LA locations but after moving back to the bay started frequenting this one as well.”
7AM - 11PM

Great Belgium waffles and they have ish ,French fries a huge assortment of soft drink ,No Alcoholic Beverages and service with lots of love and smiles!. Cheesecake and banana puddin-,potato salad and macaroni salad and all kinds of snacks, candy, hot cof . Check it out!”
“This shop means I do not have to go to Safeway or any corporate chain stores. The staff is knowledgeable and friendly. I go often to get my kombucha refill with new flavors and same for the yogurt. Both are delicious. If I were more of a cook, I would make even better use of their great selection of pantry items. But I do get most of my non-food stuff there. Things like body wash, hand soap, dish soap, tooth paste tabs, laundry detergent, dishwasher detergent. And it is also in a great neighborhood.”
