5 Element Food Therapy
308 Jackson St #3, Oakland5 Elements is an amazing dog food company that has completely transformed my senior dog's life. It's so refreshing to come across a company where the owner's passion shines through in every aspect. You can just feel the love and dedication she puts into her products.Norma and Ali, the store staff at 5 Elements are just as fantastic! Pet Food Express
2220 Mountain Blvd, OaklandA smaller size store, but the staff are big dog lovers. The love my black lab, Buddy. Their were tears when he passed. Now, they treat my new lab with the same care and love. When I came in with my arm in a sling, they grabbed the big bag and carried it out to my car without my asking for help. Great staff!

Petvet Petfood
4814 Broadway, OaklandWe've been coming to Petvet since our first dog years ago. The clinic itself is still just as awesome and affordable. Definitely expect to wait as it's first come, first serve, but the vaccination line moves pretty fast. Exams line takes a bit more time. Today specifically Annette was great getting our pets vaccinated even with our antsy ones.
As far as the pet store section, it's also super helpful especially when it comes to finding quality and/or hard to find pet products. So many products to choose from and hard to resist especially when my daughter visits with me.

Pet Food Express
6398 Telegraph Ave, OaklandExcellent customer service and generally great selection with an unbeatably large parking lot (for the area). Their inventory system isn’t always great at updating (not this location’s fault), but the staff are excellent about checking shelves and inventory in advance if you call ahead and are also happy to call other locations for you if they’re out of a particular item.

Unleashed by Petco
3300 Lakeshore Ave, OaklandVisited today for the first time and had a splendid experience! I was greeted kindly upon entering the store and gently offered assistance. I had a couple questions and the employee offered an extra step to help me remedy a blunder I’d made with an online/pick-up in store order. They had me checked out and on my way quickly and exuded friendly professionalism and knowledge. Highly recommend this location - I will absolutely be back specifically for this level of magical experience!

A Bright Warm Heart & Wet
OaklandMy wife and I have a Norwegian forest cat with super long fur, so from time to time, she develops mats in her fur that we are not able to easily comb out. When her fur gets to this point, we know its time to call for help, as we're not comfortable taking scissors to our cat's fur. We stumbled upon Tao's business on Yelp and are very happy she was able to come over to our home for the grooming service. Not having to transport our cat saved us a ton of trouble, so I'm very thankful for that, as our cat has a lot of anxiety when it comes to car rides. When Tao arrived, she set up her grooming tools on our kitchen counter next to our sink and was able to get right to work once we brought our cat over. During the grooming session, we helped Tao hold down our cat while she carefully cut out the matted sections of fur with a pair of scissors. Tao did a great job trimming our cat's nails as well. Overall, it was a very pleasant and smooth experience and I would definitely recommend Tao's services if you're looking for cat grooming services.

My girl Lola came back smelling so good and had the best haircut ever in her 5 years of being groomed. The price was a bit more than what I am used to but worth every penny. Claremont Veterinary Hospital
5331 College Ave, OaklandMy kitty, Calypso, always had wonderful care with everyone at Claremont. The front desk staff is efficient and pleasant. The techs are caring and gracious. The doctors who saw Calypso, Leggeri and McDonald, are informative, thorough and communicative. However, my most recent need was euthanizing my dear sweet friend. It followed a month of exploration into what was wrong, referring me to an outside vet for confirmation and discussion so that I was able to make the decision to go the palliative care/end of life route that was best for Calypso. When the time came to let Calypso go, the Claremont front desk was so kind. The tech was so gentle. Dr. McDonald was professional yet understanding, tender and compassionate, letting me know exactly what she was about to do on each step. The empathy from all was not sappy but distinct. I was given as much private time with Calypso as I needed during the various stages of the process. It was awful to lose my beloved sweetheart but I couldn't have asked for a better team to help me help Calypso move onto her next journey. From the bottom of my heart, I cannot thank you all enough.

This practice stands above all others in expertise and integrity. When my cats get seen for their annuals, I am amazed by the amount of time devoted by the doctor to discuss and address any issues. Doctors and nurses follow up after treatments. It's so easy to get an appointment. If my cat has an issue, they often help me resolve it via email or an appointment in very reasonable time. They are totally on top of prescription requests and let me get them filled wherever works best for me. I definitely see the holistic improvement in my cats' health since coming here. I really can't say enough about Creature Comfort and I recommend them with absolute confidence!

They communicated all the instructions very clearly ahead of time, so I knew exactly what to expect. The surgery went perfectly, my dog recovered very quickly and needed no follow-ups. You don’t get any personalized care, but that’s to be expected. I was hesitant to use a clinic for this procedure, but was pleasantly surprised by the facility and the staff. Les made it simple and easy for us to understand the do’s and don’ts. We often get comments about how well behaved our pup is and we can attribute that to solid training. The monthly puppy socials are also a wonderful way to socialize with other dogs and create that well rounded experience. Les has a wonderful way of training us to better train our pup. Les has continued to be a wealth of knowledge and support even after official training. All in all highly recommend!

Doggy Lama Pet Care
4400 Keller Ave Ste. 140, OaklandDoggy Lama and their staff are *the best* and Emily in particular has been a lifesaver. We have an elderly cat with health issues, and she recently became ill while we were out of the country. Emily got her to an urgent vet appointment, picked up meds, administered them twice a day, and scheduled extra visits to make sure she was recovering -- it could have been a nightmare but Emily made it totally manageable and reassured us with texts and (beautiful!) photos throughout the process. She truly cares for our cat, and we know when we're away she's in excellent hands. We've been using Doggy Lama for three years and have had nothing but lovely experiences.

It can be a challenge for me to remember to reserve a spot by 7pm the evening before, but they are really flexible about cancellations so I don't worry about reserving a spot even when I'm not sure I'll need it. They've also been really flexible with me about our packages, one time extending our expiration date and another time crediting an expired package towards boarding.

Piedmont Pet LLC
3027 Millsbrae Ave, OaklandWe are very thankful for Karen and Piedmont Pet! We have entrusted our animals to Karen for several years and have only ever had great experiences. Piedmont Pet is an excellent in-home boarding and daycare provider for small dogs. Nervous pet owners like me will appreciate the genuine care, attention to detail, and communication Karen brings to every pet care interaction. Our little 17-lb terrier mix has a few health issues and is on a special diet and meds, and needs to be in an environment where he will be handled gently. We never, ever worry with Karen! She was extremely thorough when we first started working with her, making time to ask lots of good questions and answer all of ours. She is a confident and very experienced animal lover who organizes and handles small-dog pack walks like the pro she is. We get daily photos of his adventures when our dog is with Piedmont Pet which we really, really appreciate. Karen takes care of him like one of her own (little sweaters in the winter, no-pull harnesses, comfy beds and blankets, etc.), and we can tell he feels secure and comfortable with her and his "vacation pack". His time there is a great mix of snuggles and downtime and walks and enrichment time. Karen also provides drop-in visits for our cat when we're away which we really appreciate. Our cat doesn't like anyone and she actually plays with Karen and allows pets (we get pics and videos of this too)! We feel secure knowing our sweet little dog buddy is in great hands and our less-sweet but still loved cat buddy is getting wet food and playtime when we can't be there. Strongly recommend Piedmont Pet, especially to anyone with small dogs in the East Bay in search of secure, loving home boarding or daycare!

Oakland Pet Care
5680 Oak Grove Ave, OaklandWe moved from a single-family home with a fenced backyard in the Sacramento area to a condo in the East Bay--and naively thought our very smart German shepherd would adapt easily. She did NOT. We were honestly in a crisis after the first few hard weeks here. Thankfully, our son found Oakland Pet Care for us, and Owner Delia's lengthy and reassuring phone conversations with me in themselves were a game-changer. She matched us with a wonderful trainer, Laela, who quickly assessed our challenges here--blind corners, jack-in-the-box surprises on the other side of every door or elevator ride--but never gave up. She bonded immediately with our dog, who loved her right back, and taught us so many ways to calm her, wait at doors, walk calmly on the leash, ride in the car for off-site walks. Delia and Laela saved us--there is no other way to describe it. We will forever be grateful--and highly recommend them!

Restful Pets
330 17th St, OaklandI am so thankful for having found The Restful Pets. My husband and I had to make the most difficult decision of our lives to put our beloved maltipoo, Frappuccino, to sleep on Monday, September 9th. He was only supposed to have an ultrasound and surgery to remove a growth in his intestine, but it turned out that he had cancer in his intestine and it was too late due to it spreading. We were heartbroken. The next two days after his passing, I spent practically all day those two days trying to find a facility where they do funeral memorial services. I called almost three dozen of them, and out of all of those called, two three of them only do quick viewings where they just leave his body out without preparing it, and it had to be on a weekday since they're closed on the weekend. I didn't want a quick viewing, I wanted his picture enlarged, flowers, music and his body nicely prepared for family and friends along with their fur babies to come and see him to say their goodbyes. It was almost 10pm that Wednesday when I finally found Restful Pets. It was late when I called, and I was prepared to leave a message, but to my surprise Mark answered the phone. We spoke for almost half an hour, I told him about the emotional story of what happened and how I want a proper memorial service. Mark was very understanding and compassionate during our conversation. He said that we can definitely get a service put together for Frappuccino. It was Wednesday, September 11th when we spoke that evening and I had the service held on Saturday, September 21st. Family and friends had never heard of a pet funeral service, this was their first and they said it was beautiful. We held the venue at the clubhouse at my mother-in-law's community since they are pet friendly, but the original venue that Mark showed me was beautiful. We couldn't hold it there since they aren't pet friendly, but he was helping me find another venue. There were two alternative places that I thought we beautiful, but luckily the clubhouse ended up being available and pet friendly.
I just want to say thank you to Mark and Justine (the coordinator who helped the day of Frappuccino's funeral service). Everything was beautiful. And I could tell you took good care of him. My friends who had never met Frapp and went to the service were happy to have had the chance to somehow meet him, and they said he looked so peaceful as if he was just sleeping during the service.
I was glad to have the chance to properly say goodbye to my first child and even give a eulogy about how wonderful he was and the memories we have with him. I highly recommend Restful Pets to those who are looking to hold a service for your beloved fur baby.

6124 Telegraph Ave, OaklandThis is our local spot for hay, treats, and pellets for our Ziggy Smalls! We stopped purchasing from Amazon and SPS, due to poor quality of 2nd cut Timothy...Ziggy was basically using it as his litter vs eating it. purchasing local here, supports his mission and ensures a safe haven for rabbit and Guinea pig owners so we feel good about coming here. We adore James and he's always helpful and kind when we visit. He was able to give advice when Ziggy had too much "wet poop", even after changing his daily amount of fresh greens. Thank you James! We also found out about them via local Facebook group: "rabbits of the Bay Area".

Rocket Dog Rescue
3561 Foothill Blvd, OaklandWe love Rocket Dog Rescue! They found an amazing foster mom to care for our newly-adopted dog JJ, until we were able to meet & bring him home. They’re a well run organization with people who love finding homes for dogs. Hope they get all the funding they need to continue.

East Bay SPCA Oakland Adoption Center
8323 Baldwin St, OaklandI volunteer on Sundays and the staff are very kind and work so hard to care for the animals.
We have also fostered and adopted from the SPCA as well. The foster team provided everything we needed to foster 2 German Shepard puppies.
When we said we wanted to adopt both puppies, the very knowledgeable trainers told us that it would not be a good idea because when the dogs would grow up, they would fight because the pups were both males. We heard that information from multiple other sources as well.
We ended up adopting one of the puppies and he has grown into a very sweet, but very large doggy. (Now we have realized, one 85 pound German Shepard is enough!)
Thank you SPCA!
