The Animal Connection
3401 Irving St, San FranciscoI've been coming here for well over 15 years now! I've always appreciated their friendly customer service and through the years they've always been able to support my variety of pets! Now I regularly order dog food from them and it takes about a week to a week and half for them to get it in. They they message me or call me to let me know it's in. I'd rather come here and support a small local business instead of the big chain stores.

maxwell's pet bar
1734 Church St, San FranciscoDiscovering Maxwell's Pet Bar about a year ago has been a game-changer for our 12-year-old dog, Simon. Thanks to Jen and Kristi's expert guidance, we found the perfect raw food combination that has literally turned back the clock for him. He's more playful, enjoys his walks more, and overall, seems much younger. The transformation has been incredible to witness. I can't recommend Maxwell's Pet Bar enough. If you're looking to improve your pet's health and happiness, this is the place to start!

Bernal Beast
509 Cortland Ave, San FranciscoLovely neighborhood pet care/food/need store that I think (?) is family owned and run. Whatever. It's just nice to get away from the chains and feel connected to where my money is going. And I think it's going to the neighborhood and the greater good. Well stocked store and they will order something if you need and cannot find it. In the well supplies shelves. Chickens? Rabbits? Cats? And of course, dogs! Just ask! Puppy socials and training classes are offered in house too, for you new parents. And frankly just stop buy to check It out. The store has this log cabin Mendocino vibe. Little hippie-dippie! But lovingly so. Small business at its best.

The Dog Barber
1903 Market St, San FranciscoAs a dog lover, trusting someone else to care for our furry friends is a big deal. It's not just about love and attention but also awareness of potential health issues arising from our busy lives. That's why I need the owner to guide and help me during the visit so that I can take the necessary actions to save time and money in case of any issues. The owner's awareness and willingness to discuss unusual behavior in my pup is crucial, as it helps me determine if any medical attention is required. This can save both the owner and your furry friend from any unnecessary medical expenses. If you want quality grooming service with respect and kindness, I highly recommend visiting the Dog Barber Market and Laguna. While I understand that the cost may concern some, it's essential to recognize that it's a small compromise to support a business that prioritizes service excellence. So, don't hesitate to come and visit for your pup's grooming needs. Trust me, it's worth trying, and you won't be disappointed.

Lotus Veterinary House Calls
825 Moultrie St, San FranciscoWe have been using Lotus Veterinary House Calls for years now. The ease of having a vet come into your own home is so fantastic. No stress, no fuss. The service is great but what really distinguishes Lotus is the fact that their Doctors and support staff are the kindest, most patient and all over amazing human beings. They hold you and your furry/purry family members in a gentle embrace while being knowledgeable, non-judgemental, thorough and efficient. They work with you rather than dictating to you. Don't even get me started on some of the horrendous vet experiences we have had to endure here in San Francisco...but never once with Lotus. Unfortunately we have had to have three cats put to sleep at the end of their lives during our time with Lotus and I can't rave enough about both Dr Seth and Dr Jenny. I truly consider them both members of our extended family. Don't let the cost put you off, at the end of the day it's actually not that much more and so worth every.single.penny! Golden Gate Home Hospice and Euthanasia
491 27th Ave, San FranciscoOur Kara kitty was diagnosed with cancer in her abdomen last month, and there was nothing we could do to help cure her. We made her as comfortable as we could, injected fluids in her everyday, and she had strings of good days, but then on Christmas Eve, her body just couldn't take it anymore. I got referred to Dr. Van Horn and his services from a family member and a couple of friends, and my wife and I are so glad that there are angels on earth in the form of Dr. Van Horn, Zayn, and Jennifer. They were all incredibly kind, compassionate, and professional and in spite of having to play phone tag and change the day of our appointment a couple of times. It's not easy at all to do what Dr. Van Horn did, but he did so with the most calm, kind, and understanding heart. He explained everything to us very clearly and even went so far as to share things about himself and stories about his pets to help us through things. He was so patient and gave us all the time we needed to say what we needed to say. He was gentle with her and helped her not suffer any longer. Kara was in excellent hands with Dr. Van Horn, and I highly recommend him if you are in need of services for your pet in their last moments. It was the most peaceful day, spending time with our Kara on the couch on Christmas Eve, and having Dr. Van Horn help ease her passing, and now we're so relieved that our kitty doesn't have to suffer any longer. Dr. Van Horn even went so far as to make himself available to us if we needed someone to talk to in the future, and if I ever see him in the city, I would gladly go up to him and say hi. I consider him family based on how kind and gentle he was to our Kara. Thank you so much, Dr. Van Horn, and all of your associates, for helping our last moments with Kara be so loving and meaningful!

1110 4th St, San FranciscoI continue to have nothing but the very best to say about Dr. Rockwell. She is absolutely wonderful with smalls. She continues to see Poppyseed, she performed surgery on Little Piggy (that was very successful), and very sadly, helped me with end of life care for Big Piggy. She is super knowledgeable about smalls (and those of us with smalls know finding a knowledgeable smalls vet is hard). You can tell she loves her patients and she is supportive and empathetic for us guardians. I recommend her to everyone! The staff there is great - and once when I had to see another doctor I felt equally comfortable.

The Castro Animal Hospital
100 Church St, San FranciscoThe doctors here are all really good and spend their time explaining things to you. Unfortunately, today the front desk person was very abrasive towards me and my dog. She asked me to get my dog on the scale, and when I got on the scale to call the dog on there with me, she started scolding me saying I can't be on there. I assured her I would step off of the scale once the dog was on and she got even louder and more rude, saying I don't understand. I kept assuring her that I understand that she needs the weight of just the dog. She kept belittling me, saying I do not understand, getting more and more relentless Lady, All that matters is, the scale starts at zero, and ends with just the dog on the scale. It doesn't matter if I get on the scale initially to call the dog on it won't affect the measurement in the end when i step off. this lady was raising her voice or using a condescending tone at me, saying I don't understand over and over making a scene (apparently she is the one who doesn't understand how scale works). I almost turned around and walked out after what she did next, she grabbed my dogs bad arthritis (reason for my visit) leg and started trying to force it on the scale what i considered to be too aggressively for an elderly dog with arthritis and it looked like my dog was in pain/made the dog more scared than it already was of getting on the scale. This while interaction was entirely unnecessary, and the whole interaction was unprofessional. If the doctors here were not so good, I would leave you guys one star and find a new vet over this. you really need to speak with your front desk people because I feel completely disrespected. To the front desk lady, don't ask me to get my dog on the scale for you and then harass me, and interfere with it when what i was doing ended up working just fine. The scale isnt going to just suddenly lose its zeroing like you were insisting. How do you work a job in a medical office and not understand how a scale works? If you put an apple on a scale and it says 1 pound and then you put a second apple it's gonna say 2 pounds. Then if you take one apple off, it will say 1 pound again How do you even work in a customer facing role when you don't know how to recognize that you're agitating a person. Or how do you get hired at a vet office When you don't know that trying to use force on a scared Dog is going to make the dog more scared ? If you were so sure that what I was doing was wrong, would it have killed you to wait five seconds, so I can see for myself that it was wrong?. It would've saved you the embarrassment when it turned out you were in the wrong not me.

1386 Golden Gate Ave, San FranciscoBCPH has always been so good to us.They respect appointments and run on time, they’ve taken us last minute for emergencies before, they communicate well, their billing practices are fair. They’ve always been a pleasure. My only thing to note is that in going to them for 2 years, we never once met a vet in person. I’m not sure if it’s a covid policy that was prolonged, but they do not allow people into exam rooms and the vet calls you to discuss results. This never bothered us because we didn’t have any serious issues of concern but I can see why other patients may seek a more in-person interaction.

Park Animal Hospital
1207 9th Ave, San FranciscoMy initial review was posted with 3 stars due to what I felt was a troubling experience for me and my cat. There were several excited dogs crowding the waiting room that scared him pretty bad prior to our appointment, causing a domino-effect that triggered a negative reaction from him since he felt overwhelmed from the start. Rowena reached out to me from the clinic via email and phone to discuss, apologize, and assist, explaining that it's not normally like that. Really appreciate that. The vet here was excellent. FIVE stars for her care. The meds she gave us seem to be working, and my cat is feeling better, which is the overall outcome that I'd desired. I would return. Thanks again, Rowena. The only other thing I'd suggest is better quality syringes for home administration of medicine. The two plastic ones we received to administer his oral suspension each broke after one use, and we have a few days left on his antibiotic schedule.

Embarkadero Social Club
1766 Mission St, San FranciscoMy wife already left a glowing review, but I wanted to add to it. From April 2020 to March 2024 (nearly 4 years), our dog Scully went to Embarkadero probably 100 or more times for day care. And he stayed there for overnight boarding at least 10 times. Not once was I ever concerned for the safety or the wellbeing of our dog. He loved that place, and Diego + the rest of the team took great care of him. They also sent us photos and videos of him when we were away for a long time to reassure us that everything was okay. Embarkadero was basically his second family, and we'd still be going there if not for a recent move to Southern California. We hope to find a place half as good as Embarkadero in our new city.

Top Dog SF
2121 Taraval St, San FranciscoWe brought our Maltipoo puppy Reuben to Top Dog for their puppy head start program and have to say it’s the best decision we have made since getting him! We were worried about not being able to socialize him before he’s fully vaccinated for Parvo, as well as having time during the workday to make sure we’re also giving him the attention he deserves at such a young age.Not only was he really well socialized in a clean, safe environment but every day he would come home more obedient and with new tricks to show us (not to mention super tired which made for happy parents). The staff there are also super kind and informative, and Reuben loves them. We saw another review before we started him that joked that their puppy would leap out of their arms when they dropped him off and that’s exactly what Reuben does too now.We plan to continue with Top Dog’s additional programs - they really are the best at what they do. Golden Gate Dog Sports
1305 Carroll Ave, San FranciscoThe best of the best. Hands down. It has been 2 years since I moved away from SF, and GGDS is one of the things I miss most. The instructors are exceptional - knowledgeable, patient, supportive. Overall we spent about 9 months here before we moved away. They taught us so much about handling and teamwork, and they helped build my pup's confidence. My pup is timid, but when we first started agility, it's like we unlocked his talent. He flourished. Seeing your fur kid learn and grow and having a blast is the best feeling. We still do agility for fun and he's a little superstar in my eyes. The agility foundation that you learn here is amazing. The option to rent the facility to practice is fantastic. Prices are so reasonable. Whether you are just starting out and have no idea if your dog will like agility or if you have some experience under your belt, I cannot speak more highly of GGDS and the instructors.

SF Puppy Prep
251 6th St, San FranciscoI cannot emphasize enough how happy I am to have enrolled in SF puppy prep. I brought my puppy to dayschool from the week after I took her home all the way till she was fully vaccinated (when she transitioned to outdoor ed). I would love to shoutout Amrit, Drue, Isaiah, and Erin specifically for being so kind and sweet to her. At school, she got exposure to different things (textures, new objects), learned quickly how to break out of her shell, and how to play and interact well with other puppies. A bonus is that they do crate time at school which was very important to me because it really helped with crate training at home and Strawberry learning to be by herself. One of the biggest pros I think there is to enrolling in day school is that it gives your puppy the opportunity to be away from you at an early age which can help reduce separation issues and exposes them to new humans that they can trust. All that being said, I want to focus on talking about their Outdoor education program because I feel like isn't talked about enough. The main person who does outdoor ed is Ellie, and she is the BEST! Ellie is one of the sweetest most genuine people and she is so good with dogs!! She takes the pups around to different parts of the city and exposes them to different environments. They also do 1-1 training with your puppy every day and you can tell them specific goals you have for your puppy (eg loose leash walking, reactivity, playing fetch etc). One of the biggest perks of the program is you are actually allowed and encouraged to join training sessions so that Ellie can show you what your puppy has been working on and teach you how to implement the training when you are at home. I was so impressed when I joined one of Strawberry's later sessions and she did amazing with loose leash walking. It was such a massive improvement from when she had first joined and had no idea how to even walk on leash. One thing I really liked was that Ellie focused on helping strawberry ignore distractions and be more confident outdoors since she is a little more on the cautious side. I would highly recommend enrolling your puppy in outdoor ed, they'll learn so much and I know Ellie will take amazing care of them!

1345 Taylor St, San FranciscoNatalie and Brad are absolutely fantastic. They are passionate about their dog walking business and it shows in many ways. Their communications are awesome. They are very punctual! They send texts letting you know your dog has been picked up and dropped off. You will get a photo or video after every walk. They are extremely caring and my dog Sushi loved going on walks with them. I couldn't recommend Wags & Paws more!

That's My Jam
324 Divisadero St, San FranciscoTreating myself to a Friday brunch and couldn’t have picked a better place! I was immediately greeted by a genuinely friendly waitress and there was plenty of seating to pick from. I’m always on the search for a good breakfast sandwich and theirs hit the spot - so good!! I actually really enjoyed the smaller portions because they were so flavorful, didn’t make me feel stuffed, and allowed me to try the doughnut plate too:) Will definitely be back for more!

Cable Car CoffeeSF
902 Market St, San FranciscoA great little gem in a bustling historic location. Great to sit at a little table in the plaza and watch the people and pigeons! Friendly and prompt service. Drip coffee was fresh and hot. High-lite was the tasty croissant breakfast sandwich. Made fresh on the spot and not reheated like most cafes. Lots of toppings and options - next time I’ll try a veggie bagel sandwich!

San Francisco Animal Care & Control
1419 Bryant St, San FranciscoI came in to get my parakeets & they do keep a record of ya. I came in when adoption fees were waived due to owners surrendering their pets due to Bidenflation & I was in the process of wanting to adopt parakeets since I missed having them. I paid $30 & got a cool voucher for Petfood Express. Very clean & hardworking staff. The facility is cutting edge & a far cry from their old location. Come visit them! And remember, "Adopt, don't shop" when you can!
