“It's like getting into a treasure room. Jocelyn's (the owner) goal is and always was to have a free store, but she needs to pay the store's rent so she does plant sales. I don't know anybody more knowledgeable about plants than her, I got mine from her ages ago and they're thriving. Free UP is open only on Sundays now from 12pm to 3pm. Definitely one of my favorite places.”

“This shop is jammed-packed with the most interesting assortment of gifts and homewares, from plants to kitchen items to clothing and meditation paraphernalia. Really useful things, not just pretty stuff to look (though they have that too). I also just scored on their 25th Anniversary Sale, where everything in the store was 20% off (9/21-10/6/2023). What a find on Piedmont Ave.”

“Great antique shop right next to Jack London square in downtown Oakland. They always have a great selection - and the items are constantly changing which makes frequent visits entertaining. I’ve purchased multiple large furniture items from them. Staff has always been helpful and friendly.The place is also very dog friendly - and my dog always has a friend there when we go (as can be seen from the photos).The place has also been impacted by all of the retail crime that has been hitting Oakland, so definitely great to support their business if you can.”

“Dimensional outlet furniture has cut rate prices. They were supposed to deliver a bed frame for me today but it wasn't in yet. They said they will probably come tomorrow and I'll get it Saturday or Sunday. I don't mind because I have good furniture at a good price. They assembled the furniture and took away all of the cardboard wrapping. I gave it a four because their selection is a teeny bit limited.”

“I can't say enough good things about Dee. We worked with her eight years ago and had such a good experience that we recently called her about freshening up much of the rest of the house. While Dee has an exquisite eye for design, she really listens to clients to hear what their design preferences are. She patiently explains options, and she is gracious about budget constraints. “This the place that has now moved to the top of the list in Montclair for unusual, charming house decorations. They did start off as window blinds primarily but I have been there for tastefully crafted vases, bowls, bags, spectacle cases etc. And then their wonderful gluggy water jugs. There are a lot of places in town to buy greeting cards, but when I want something humorous I go to them. Their staff have the right attitude and you really get rewarded for popping in there to support the local store and see what they've got.”

“I never need to directly go here myself, but my husband loves it so I go with him sometimes. He likes to get the rugs there. This time we were looking for some rugs, but we ended up with socks, knives, and incense instead. Spacious boutique shop with unique items from household to kids to beauty to kitchen products. Dog friendly. The cashiers greet you, but usually keep to themselves until you're ready to check out. Great local spot to go to support your local businesses whether you're buying gifts or things for yourself. Easy walk from Rockridge BART or there is paid street parking, and free residential parking. Or bike or bus! Luckily for me, I can walk down here.”

“Oh my god! This place is amazing and I love this place soooo much!! I set foot in this lovely store on Wednesday the 21st of July. This store is the place to go in Chinatown if you are looking for fine Chinese ceramics. This store mainly carries a whole bunch of ceramics imported from China, like bowls, vases, teapots, teacups, plates, and more. Also this store carries some other items that are not ceramics, like fans, mini pagodas for garden, and chopsticks. Even though this store is stunning, there are a few downsides I noticed in this store. The first one downside is the store is crammed with merchandise. It is very hard to navigate through the store, and some of the merchandise blocks access to other merchandise in the store. Another downside is that this store is a little pricey. Most items at the store start at $15 and go up. Even though this store has a few downsides, I would recommend people going there to get some fine china!”

“From Tara-Nicholle's review - "totally stuffed to the gills" may be the biggest selling point and biggest gripe I have with Maison d'Etre. It's nearly impossible to move around when there's more than a handful of people in this shop, but that inspires you to look at everything more closely and enjoy every detail and the curation by the owners. They do have lots of handmade items, minimal vintage, and anything you could want to gift your friends and loved ones, and more often than note a treat for yourself too!”

“I've popped in the Oakland shop many times over the years, to buy a few special gifts but mostly to feast my eyes on the wearable art. When my fiancé and I went in to look at rings, we had the honor of being helped by Laur. She was so patient and kind with our very different shopping styles, and it was obvious she truly enjoyed the process of helping us find the jewelry that spoke to us as individuals. We came back several times to try things on and think about it before making our choices, and Laur saved our favorites from previous visits and offered thoughtful new options we might not otherwise consider. Nothing about the process felt stuffy or pressured, but rather like she was the super stylish and knowledgable friend who you'd want to take ring shopping with you. We finally chose options we are both thrilled about, she was great about walking us through the process to get my fiancé's vintage band resized. Thanks Laur!”

“They have a LOT of gift options, and you can order completely online for delivery or pick up. I did pick up, and they call you when it's ready. You go up to the door and ask the person sitting there for your order, and then you are done! This is a typical gift store, ie cute stuff, but none the less STUFF. They are unique and do have useful gifts, but just wanted to warn y'all that would rather give useful things and not just cutesy "idk what to get you" gifts.”
