I'll get the rental experience out of the way first; it was fine. We picked up and dropped off the car with no major issues and it got us where we needed to go.HOWEVER. When we picked up our car the agent that assisted us did not give us the option to decline the insurance, adding almost $100 to our bill. I found this out after looking on their website while in the middle of traveling, so I called the helpline to see if I could get this removed from my bill. I was told I would have to visit the desk again in person for the possibility of this to happen, which due to the nature of the travel I was doing was not possible.Be aware if you choose to rent a vehicle through this company, you might be lied to by the rep and have something you don't want added to your bill.

Told them I only wanted the standard insurance and they still charged me all the premium ones anyway. when I asked about my total since I was confused to why I was being charged again for the entire rental price when I had already paid for it online. Customer service did not fix this issue saying I agreed to additional charges. Very deceptive pricing and counter staff does not tell you what they are charging you for.

I would give this Dollar a zero. They were so unorganized in almost every aspect. We rented a car for five days in early November, put 100 miles on the car. We noticed after the first day there was an oil leak, so we didn’t drive it after that except to return to the airport. We told the attendant and she had us sign a form. Much to our surprise we received a bill for $400 extra for deep cleaning from smoking. We do not smoke. We have tried and tried to get Dollar to fix whatever mistake they made in their system and return our money. We’ve been on them for a month with no results. We are NEVER using this company again.

I will give u half or zero if I can. I had a multimonth rental for too months and some day for a total of 2875.83 and vehicle was supposed to be returned on 1 Dec 23. I returned the vehicle and on my GTC u've charges me 2x $1358.73 for oct and Nov and another $105.58 for 11/29/23 to 11/30/23. I noticed on my account another charge of $1440 which has posted. Unfortunately, I cannot get hold of you multimonth customer service agents and will dispute these charges for your situation awareness. Worst experience for unauthorized charges. I am not surprised ppl are complaining about ur Richmond office.

Customer service goes straight to a full voicemail. There is absolutely no way to get in touch with these people. It's the worst time I've ever had at an airport. Congratulations!

Parking garage is filthy !STOP - run for your life!Hertz and dollar are dysfunctional at this airport. They claim to have enough cars then take an incredibly long time to process each customerThen finally tell all the other people waiting in line that they ran out of cars for everyone else.!

Do not even consider renting from Dollar rental car company at Richmond International Airport! They are absolutely terrible. When we arrived at the airport, there was no one at the ticket counter to assist us. We had to wait in a long line without any help, and eventually, we were directed to the Hertz line since there was no one available to work for Dollar. On the second day of our rental, we needed a tow truck to bring the car back to the airport. They promised it would only take an hour, but we ended up waiting for over four hours in the dark with children.To make matters worse, they have the audacity to charge me $100 per day for the time they have had the vehicle since Saturday. I have been unable to contact them to discuss this ridiculous charge. There is no way to reach this location! It's as if they have vanished into thin air. Corporate has sent emails and they don't respond!! Even corporate doesn't have a way to reach them via phone. They keep charging my credit card without providing any explanation. It is evident that they are trying to scam people with their shady practices.Save yourself the hassle and steer clear of this deceitful company at all costs. I cannot stress this enough. Avoid Dollar rental car out of Richmond International airport unless you want to be ripped off and treated poorly. Trust me, you will thank me later.

Beware Europeans, they will take your money then tell you they won't rent you a car (seems like it happens often) because you don't have a credit card.They then tell you it's too late to get refunded because the day has passed, it's funny, I thought I was the client, and I was supposed to be taken care of not the other way around?The only other option was to get another rental without a credit card need. Guess what? There is no such thing.I paid 300$+ to get refused, have to pay an uber, and get bad customer service. Going to jail is free and more enjoyable.

We came to drop off a vehicle we rented from the Newark airport. There were issues at the Newark location when we rented the vehicle so we had to discuss a few things once we dropped off the vehicle. Once we arrived to the rental car drop off area, we were greeted by an attendant (Jeff) who was attentive and kind. He reached out to the manager (Marchello) to come and speak with us. Marchello came and greeted us with a smile and was very professional when we discussed our concerns and issues. He was able to fix our issue and was very understanding through the whole process. For this, I give thrift/dollar car rental a 5 star rating. Thank you both for your assistance.

Dollar car rental. Richmond airport. The pick up was a mess it took 4 different cars and 1 hour to find one that I could drive. The car was fine for the 2 week rental but on return l filled the tank 1/2 mile from airport return but was charged for 6 gallons that could not possibly fit in the car. Warning to all renting dollar cars you will be charged 63 $ for gas and without a receipt no return also there is no person to talk to it's all machine. Never again!

Dollar Car Rental in Richmond, VA provided me with a broken car back in June. I am just now reviewing as I was awaiting resolution from Hertz/Thrifty/Dollar. The vehicle was a 2108 Nissan Pathfinder with terrible oil consumption issues. I noticed blue cloud of smoke out of rear of vehicle when accelerating shortly after leaving Richmond Intl. Airport while headed to OBX.I pulled over and checked the oil level immediately, finding it was so low on oil that nothing was showing on the dipstick. On advice from Dollar Customer Service, I put in 2 qts of oil (saved receipt) until oil was reading full. The vehicle continued to burn a LOT of oil on acceleration for the rest of the trip to OBX, but ran okay otherwise.I called Dollar customer service back once at OBX and was advised to exchange the vehicle at the nearest Dollar location. That would be in Norfolk, VA which was 66 miles from my location. However, Norfolk did not have any equivalent vehicles so I would have to return it to Richmond. I opted to continue my vacation and keep putting oil in it instead.The vehicle consumed/burned 8 quarts of oil over a 5 day rental period, leaving a dense smoke screen and spark knocking. It was bad enough that other drivers behind me had to pull over and wait for the smoke to clear to be able to safely drive. I purchased two 5 quart oil jugs to replenish the oil that was burned at a total cost of $70.47. My family vacation plans were hampered severely as I was continuously preoccupied with avoiding a vehicle breakdown.This vehicle should have never been released to a customer. I attempted to resolve in person when I returned the vehicle to Richmond at the end of my vacation, but got the run-around from staff there and had to abandon my attempts as I needed to catch my flight. After repeated requests to customer service after the fact, they DID reimburse me for the oil I had to buy and also sent me a $50 certificate that could be applied to future rentals through them. That is insufficient. I'm never renting from Hertz/Thrifty/Dollar again.

They are a very shady operation at Richmond Airport. Rented from Dollar/Hertz - had reservation through Priceline. Ended up charging me double for extras I did not wish to purchase. Sounds Like I am not the only one this happened to. Check the BBB before you rent with them!!! I travel extensively for business and rent many vehicles every year. Tread carefully with them and don't assume just because you say you want to decline extra coverage this will happen.

Had to exchange the Volvo C40 (EV) that they rented to me due to a lack of charging stations in the town I was staying in. Archie at the Richmond airport made what I expected to be stressful endeavor, a pleasant experience. He was professional and friendly and had me back on my way in no time at all! Thanks!

Do NOT let the airline book you a car through Dollar. Worst service ever! So glad I had booked with a more reputable company as a backup because the airline couldn’t guarantee they actually booked for me. Plus, we ended up paying less.
