“I recently went in search of Chartreuse Green - it's a spirit used to make an iconic cocktail The Last Word - a prohibition era cocktail. Apparently, it's been somewhat of a challenge to find this spirit - as only a small amount is made by the Carthusian monks of the Grande Chartreuse monastery in France. I happened to find several Virginia ABC Stores in the 15-20 mile range from my home - so I cruised over to snag two bottles. I could not find it on the shelf - so I checked with the staff. The Chartreuse Green was stored in the back - they promptly retrieved two bottles for me - plus I restocked my supply of Luxardo Maraschino Cherry Liqueur with a fresh bottle. This particular Virginia ABC Store feels smaller than most. Paid with Apple Pay. Service was good! #VirginiaABCStore”

“Quiet little store with a decent selection - docking a star because there's a few basics (like sweet vermouth) they consistently never have that the larger ABC stores do. People leaving negative reviews are ones expecting a fireside chat with the cashier about all the latest nuances of artisan liquors even though the dude is clearly not originally from this country. I hope he gets paid enough to deal with all the privileged Burke residents.”

“I try to make it a habit of spending my money in small businesses and when I came across Norms beer and wine I think 20 years ago I began shopping in his store. I discovered all kinds of wonderful beers and he even had a Beer Brewing news magazine. While looking through the magazine I discovered a tournament of beers. I immediately went ahead and played the tournament trying all the beers against each other and I came to discover that Old Chubb Scotch Ale was the best of them all. Thank you Norm. There was even a time that my wife and I would buy 30 packs of Strohs or Old Milwaukee for $15.99 Get to know Norman the owner. He is a small business operator & a good man.”

“I have lived at Dolley Madison for over 20 years and love this market. Its small, but for its size, they have a good variety of items. One thing I would like to see them do is yank out the Blue Bunny Ice Cream, errr Blue Bunny Frozen Dairy desert freezer and sell REAL ice cream, and not the frozen dairy desert garbage. I have a recommendation, a brand that is local to the east coast, been around for years and really needs more places in NoVa to carry the brand.HERSHEYS ICE CREAM.Its REAL Ice cream, they have great ice cream, and ice cream novelties. They have a great variety of products and with the limited amount of places that sell it, if you were to sell it and word got out, it will sell, it will be a successful switch. Look at Vienna Drug Store. They are ALWAYS. selling out of MANY of the most popular varieties. I know because I usually buy them out of some of their products on a regular basis. Please support an ice cream company that still believes in ICE CREAM and not one of the many "Frozen Dairy Desert" Companies. But great store, friendly people, good prices and they pack a lot in such a small space.”

“Finally stayed to eat here after years of always grabbing beer to go.The upstairs is a whole other world, very formal dining room feel with a laid back (but also somehow elevated) menu. The food was great and the beer menu is huuuuuge.A helpful tip, so you don't wander around lost like I did, the bathrooms are above the dining room accessed from stairs in the back of the dining area.Only gripe is that I wish they had a slightly bigger dessert menu but the ice cream sandwich slices were delicious.”

“Shocked!! Stopped by to pick up a few bottles before my parents arrived in town,I grew up in the SF Bay Area, close to Napa, Sonoma, and Lodi. We usually bought wine at the wineries. Well... I'm just about out of my CA stash,The lady at the shop was super helpful, helped me choose whites and reds. We opened a bottle from Cline, I did not have high hopes. It said Contra Costa on the bottle (where I grew up!). Anyhow, it was fabulous and only $16.99.I am looking FWD to trying the rest and going back!!BTW... sandwich shop is delicious (a few doors down) and bread shop is great too. Because if you are scared, tried, hungry and cold…. they will be scared, tired, hungry and cold." i really feel for people on that one when i was in the signal corps doing morning formations) and i have a deep appreciation for the military as well to think of soldiers standing up for the country values or the fun side too being overseas living in germany or hearing of people getting korea as their duty station i have somewhat of a understanding for the lifestyle (i sympathize when i see people who look like they are hanging on to their job and where they live or think it's cool when i see the longterm personnel who adapt to that way of living pt the unit many years of commitment and even 'indoctrination' where too mil and affiliates can solve all my problems) um one thing that'll be real cool here is when we look around we'll also see other guests and i'll be reminded of like being in tradoc and getting your civilians or nco's and being stationed somewhere else it was georgia & germany mostly for me ft meade too the cashiers here have been phenomenal with their professionalism and demeanor a guy like a statue i'll definitely daydream about stuff like the hot gas station food or when i was in the barracks so this will be a pitstop i had mused about meeting people (i am pretty anchored here and thought i could be useful but then again i am a veteran and out) but heard warnings about that or also not wanting complaints for example”

“I was looking for a specific Vodka, which they did not have on the shelf. The Lady who worked there was very helpful in finding a "nearby" store which had the item in stock and also didn't hesitate to call them to make sure it is in the store. I will definitely go back to this location. She said that they usually have that item or could order it. I just loved the customer service.”

“You can't really beat the selection of craft beer and domestic and international wines on offer here. Most importantly for me you can really customize your beer experience in particular, building your own six pack or just trying one beer from a pack and come back for that four or six pack if you liked it. No other place really allows you to do that so Total Wine will always be one of the best places to enjoy craft beer - and wine too!”

“Upon finishing my military hair cut, I decided to get a special bottle of whiskey for my wife. I remember her telling me about Royal Crown and a new flavor called Apple last year.Today, I stopped by to see if they had a bigger bottle of whiskey than the size that was bought last time. Sure enough this store did, but I saw something that changed everything. Next to the bottle of Royal Crown Apple are a few bottles of Royal Crown Peach. Something I figured my wife would want to try since she loved the Royal Crown Apple. Once again my suspicion were correct and she loved the Royal Crown Peach. The manager told me this bottle is hard to keep on the shelf.I will have to keep my eyes open for two more bottles of the Royal Crown Peach should I see it.”

One of the managers there is probably the most knowledgeable guy I've met when it comes to understanding what you're looking for.Quick convenient location, great staff of people, and a good quality of selection. “Had a great experience picking up an online order at this store - I was helped immediately and attentively and was in and out within minutes. The employees were even kind enough to proactively load a piece of furniture into my car for me. Some of the individual items were clearly taken and packed from the store shelves, and all were extremely well-packed and protected. I was really just impressed by how nice the employees were and how they went above and beyond to make this a pleasant experience.I've also browsed this particular store once or twice and it's pretty well-stocked. World Market in general can be hit or miss, but mostly hit. I don't generally love the accessories or clothing or a lot of the artwork - to me, a lot of their items in these categories feel cheap (because they are), while their other goods are also inexpensive but don't feel or look like it. I still have the extremely affordable and attractive loveseat, dining table, and coffee table I bought there nearly a decade ago and all have held up miraculously. A couple more recent (and slightly more upscale) furniture purchases have also exceeded expectations, and I swear by some of their dishware as functional, quality, durable basics.”

“I do have an ABC store two minutes away but if I drive three more minutes, I can go to this location. The one closer to me is fine, but it is a bit of an older store. That being said, this one always has French pastis in stock & on the shelf; Pastis is similar to Italian Sambuca or Greek Ouzo but not quite the same, lol. Sambuca is made from elderberries, Ouzo is made from distilled grapes & aniseed, & Pastis is made from anise, star anise & fennel. The store only has Pernod, which we do like, but you can special order Ricard, which is mine & my French hubs preference; they are from the same company & are both anise-flavored spirits that have their roots in absinthe, but they taste different enough from each other. Pernod is the closet to Absinthe & the company, Pernod-Ricard does, in fact, make real absinthe as well. Look up the history, it's actually an interesting story of how Pastis came about. But I digress, lol. Pastis is an anise-flavored apéritif, or apéro as the French call it, & it is a digestif (aides in digestions). It is typically drank before a meal & served over a couple ice cubes & diluted with water so that it becomes beautifully cloudy & almost a golden, iridescent yellow. Pernod is made from distillates of star anisé (on of my fave spices), fennel, & 14 other botanicals such as coriander, mint, chamomile, & Veronica to name a few. Pernod has a low licorice content which sets it apart from Ricard, which has a more pronounced licorice flavor I must say the staff here is super friendly & the female manager is the best; she always has a big smile on her face. FYI ~ if you want liquor in VA you must purchase it from the ABC store aka Alcohol & Beverage Control Authority.”
