Went to Steve to get my banjo worked on extremely knowledgeable, professional heck, I ended up buying a beautiful mandolin too.Highly recommend him for any of instrument needs. Really cool place to as well. Loved it

Fun old store. Lots of history and novelty items with some antique instruments for sale. Also a large variety of preserves and jams sold here. Looks like some repair work is done here as well. No AC in the building so not an escape from the heat.

Visiting this store is like stepping into the past. Saturday afternoons, musicians gather in front of the store and play old timey fiddle Tunes.

From General Mercantile & Old Time String Shop
We are an old-fashioned general store that sells and repairs stringed instruments. Our merchandise includes acoustic instruments and accessories, locally made preserves, handmade brooms, East Texas pottery, American made woodenware, oil lamps, and toys. At the General Mercantile and Oldtime String Shop We don’t use a computer because our 1890’s cash register works fine and we don’t have air conditioning because there is usually a good breeze whipping through the windows. Come in and rediscover that life can still be simple, if you want it to be.
