Beware of renting from the RDU Avis. I rented a vehicle from this location, but when I arrived, there were over 100 people in line that had been waiting hours to pick up their rental car. Within 15 minutes of arriving, it began down pouring. Because the rental center was so overrun, my partner and I had to abandon our rental and instead go back to the terminal to get a taxi. I have filed a complaint with Avis to get a refund for my rental, but they have not responded. 0/10 experience, would never rent from this location again.

Do NOT book at this location, worst customer experience of my life. Currently in line to get my car from Avis/Budget/Payless. we have been in line for an hour and ten minutes and probably have another hour until we actually get the car. (Update: I started my watch timer 5 mins after we got in line and it took 2 hours until our rental pulled up).We booked our rental and insurance online prior to our trip hoping the process would take 10-20 mins as it typically does for every other rental I’ve booked. The shuttle from the airport took 40 minutes to arrive. When we arrived to the store location the line was wrapped around the building and flowing into the car cleaning area . My flight and picking up baggage at baggage claim took less time than getting a rental car that was already reserved. This is the worst customer service I’ve ever had. Every customer in line had to cancel plans and was extremely frustrated with this experience. I’m sure no one in this line will ever book with Budget and Avis again. No employees talked to anyone in line the whole 2 hours we stood there. When we finally got up to the counter the employee started “this has been like this for months”. I feel bad for the employees who have to deal with this everyday! New management or restructuring of Avis is horribly needed. Arrived in Raleigh at 6:20, didn’t get a car until 9 pm.

Had a reservation for Friday 10/13, upon waiting in line for 1.5 hours Avis rep notified that they had no more cars! Took an Uber home that took about another hour for driver to accept the trip since I live in Sanford plus in was 1:00am. After taking Uber back to Avis in the morning to get my car I found a semi empty parking lot and as of right now I’m still standing in line +2 hour. This is ridiculous.

We flew in on a Thursday night, shuttled from the terminal and arrived to over 100 people waiting in line for their rental car. The person at the counter stated to the couple in front of us that it's like this every Thursday and Friday night. If that is the case you would think they would try to figure something else out... Put kiosk for quick pickup or have another building with more terminals to have quicker customer service. The car itself was actually fine, no problems there. When we returned the car to the airport, we got on the shuttle and we were the first people on the shuttle. Immediately we were overwhelmed with the smell of marijuana. Had to hope it wasn't the driver.....

Not a fan of the RDU Avis location.Shuttle is just right across baggage, but there is not much signage to tell you where to go. Shuttle staff is friendly.I had booked for an intermediate car. I somehow got auto-locked on an SUV. Not needed and not preferred due to gas, but it was extremely late out, and the line was too long to deal with, so I ended up staying with the SUV.SUV was relatively new, but insides were dirty. Lots of sticky residue on the windows. Weird scent as well.Car drove ok, but wasn't the one I wanted (when the lot was full of cars).Didn't really like drop off either. Dropped off during open hours, but no staff was there to scan or confirm drop off. Really odd for an Avis location.

This is a horrible place to rent from. The car was nasty and dirty from previous renter, trash on the floor, car never inspected for scratches. Gentleman at desk would walk off while you were talking to him and would never say anything to you. Rotors needed turning on the car, steering shook each time we stopped on brakes, which is a safety hazard. There was no one there to inspect the car afterwards. With all this happening, I forgot to mention we were there for my father in law’s funeral. Also there is 100 percent true. It is awful. Being a nursePractitioner I realize there are shortages in manpower, etc., but never have I ever been so disappointed in a business like this.I will never, ever rent from AVIS again.

Horrible experience! 3 rental car companies at one little counter and there are 3 ppl working (they work for all 3). The line is out the door to the parking lot. I've been in line for over an hour and still waiting. Reservation was for 3:30. It's currently after 5 and still 9 people ahead of me. This makes absolutely no sense. It's not the employees fault at all. Ultimately, it took 1 1/2 hours to finally get a car which has dead bugs all over the dashboard board and front-end damage to the car *face palm*. This place is always busy and the company needs to either do better with hiring and retaining employees to make for a better customer experience OR set up self-service kiosks where people can complete their rentals on their own or with a national/centralized agent.

Avoid renting a car at AVIS Raleigh at all cost! You may have reserved a car but it will still take you nearly 2 hours to get it. Staff moves very slowly and very few seem competent. Called customer service and their response, “well, you’ll just have to wait.” Never again.

I prepaid/rented a car with GPS at this Avis location on 7/17. When I picked the car up on 8/2, it had no GPS. The woman handling my transaction at Avis said I'd be refunded for the GPS, since the car wasn't equipped with one. When I got to my hotel, I called Avis customer service on 8/2. I spoke to someone who assured me I would be refunded (amount paid for GPS) when I returned the car. I returned the car on 8/12 with a full tank of gas. As of today 8/15, I was charged $5.99 for fuel (even though I returned the car with a full tank of gas: My "updated" E-receipt states FULL READING: OUT 18.1 GALL IN 17.5 GALL. A difference of 0.6 gallons. Why I am being charged for gas?) and the refund amount for the GPS has not even been started. I called and spoke to two different customer service reps today. The first representative told me that the refund takes 3-5 days to process and to call back if my refund hadn't posted on my credit card in that time frame. The second representative was not only extremely helpful but also very honest. When I inquired about the fuel service fee (that I shouldn't have been charged for), she looked into my account and told me that there was no refund being processed (for the amount of the GPS) regarding my prepaid rental car. I was sent an updated e-receipt with the "new, reduced" price of my rental (Stated on e-receipt: Original prepaid amount $735.22. "Total charges $598.95") but absolutely nothing was done or started on Avis's end to refund me the difference. The only "change" was the new updated e-receipt that was emailed to me. That's it. I have been a loyal customer for years (I rented a car in Hawaii last June 2022). But if I'm being honest, the sneaky way you do business has left a bad taste in my mouth. I didn't get her name or ID but the second representative I spoke to (she processed the refund for fuel service) was great. I credit her for being honest and doing her job correctly.

Pick up was great the shuttles drivers both way were positive and helpful. The problem checking the car in, you once received a receipt, now nothing. 4 employees sitting in their car yelling for me to leave the keys and go. Not a chance. Why can’t someone check the car in? I asked 4 times to be checked and reluctantly 1 walked over and did so. Why can’t a basic process be followed.

I received an email that my vehicle was ready; however, on arrival, when I went to load my vehicle, I noticed the outside of the vehicle was dirty. I then opened the trunk to load my kids and my suitcases and noticed hair and dirt in the back trunk area. I then noticed a McDonald's cup from the previous renters. I approached the counter and there was 3 young ladies in the office I explained my SUV was dirty. They looked up my rental and then proceeded to call someone on the radio but didn't get an answer. One of the ladies said I guess I have to walk over there. While my kids and I waited in the extremely hot temperatures, not once then anyone apologizes for the mishap. After about 10 minutes one of the ladies informed me that I could wait for the next vehicle to come in and that it could be awhile or they could clean the vehicle assigned to me. I agreed for them to clean the vehicle assigned to me. About 20 minutes later the lady that had previously walked to the other area to check on my vehicle came speeding through the parking lot passing me and roughly 10 other customers with the SUV assigned to me. She drove to the end of the parking lot and turned around and drove back up to where me and several other customers were waiting on vehicles. She placed the SUV in park exited the vehicle and left the driver-side door open. She never acknowledged me to let me know my vehicle was ready. She just exited the vehicle and returned to the preferred customer booth where I first encountered the 3 young ladies. I noticed the vehicle was still half-cleaned but didn't want to keep my kids in the extreme temperatures any longer. As I proceeded to drive home it begin to rain. I turned on the wipers only to find that the driver-side wiper was torn. Then shortly after stopping to get food the change engine oil soon light came on. The customer service was horrible and totally unprofessional. I don't foresee booking with AVIS again at this location.

I am submitting this customer service feedback in regards to a June 30th, 2023 experience at the Raleigh-Durham Airport Avis facility. The Avis staff were amazing and the best I have ever experienced or the worst I have ever encountered. The shuttle drivers and lot attendants wearing the orange vests were amazing. They were engaging, polite and extremely friendly and genuinely helpful. The Avis agents located in the main building and the agents located at the preferred customer booth out in the parking lot and the agent located as you exit the lot were uninterested, short, poorly trained, condescending and just overall rude. One of the vehicles assigined to me was so disgustingly and unacceptable. It was appalling. The floormat had what appeared to be blood. The seats were stained and bleached with some type of solvent. One vehicle had numerous coffee stains and spills, a cracked windshield and the video screen looked like it had been washed with soap and no water. It took four attempts to get a clean vehicle that I had already reserved in advance. Finally I approached a gentleman who appeared to be a manager (his name was Garrick or Garrett). I explained to him the entire situation. His customer service skills were great. He listened to what I had to say. He apologized and explained to me the app was not functioning properly for their facility. He personally retrieved me a vehicle. This gentleman listened to my issue and was able to resolve it with quickly. He apologized for all of the inconveniences in obtaining the vehicle. The entire process to pick up a reserved vehicle took about two hours in total!Facility has some serious customer service and cleanliness issues they need to address.I was extremely disappointed with this facility. Our company rents so many vehicles with Avis worldwide. I contemplated contacting our corporate travel directors but decided not to based on this one experience at this one location and also based on the interaction I had with the drivers and the lot attendants and the one manager who was able to solve the entire issue.

Do yourself a favor and pay extra to rent from any place but budget, avis or pay less. They are all crammed inside a small office and I'm current inline and it's taking forever. There are probably twenty people in front of me and the line has not moved and they still use dot matrix printers. Not sure if people here are renting a car or getting a loan. This is the second time I've used them and I won't again. The last time they gave me a car with slicks on the front but I always do an inspection even if they don't do I returned it. Again pay the extra and avoid this place.

The seats were covered in sand and the backseats were wet which resulted in a very poor 2-hour drive for my passengers. There was garbage left in the cup holders. The car did not have windshield wiper fluid. This was my first time renting through Avis and was a very frustrating experience. When I had picked up the keys from the Avis desk I was told, "I don't have a spot number for you so you're going to need to go to the lot and just click the panic button" This was far from ideal as it was raining. There was no Avis attendant in the lot to assist. After seeing the condition of the car I went back inside to report it and there was no Avis member available. I had to get to a family meeting for a recent family death which is what brought me to NC. I tried to request a refund and was told they could do $50. The rental total was $380.79. A $50.00 refund is not even a fourth of the total and shows how insensitive and unyielding the company is.

Reserved a car for a couple days. Waited for 30 minutes for the shuttle to show up. Shuttle never came. Ended up taking the Hertz shuttle and walking from there to Avis. When I walked in they told me they quit having the shuttle run because they didn't have cars. Told me it would be till 6 am till they have a car. WHAT AN AWFUL COMPANY.
