K9 Perfection Grooming Salon Chapel Hill
1129 Weaver Dairy Rd R, Chapel HillSeamus is an Irish Spotted Newfoundland who cannot abstain from entering any water, so grooming is a real challenge. K9 perfection is the best groomers that we have ever experienced over 4 Newfies. Seamus loves his spa days and is ecstatic when he sees Lilly come to the gate. Today, he went straight to the grooming table and tried climbing on, he was so ready. We are grateful that we have maybe 24 hours of a pleasant smelling, soft, unmatted dog.

Doggie Spa & Day Care
1101 Dawson Rd, Chapel HillWe had a medical emergency at our house. I had to take my wife to the ER and she needed an overnight stay in the hospital. I called Doggie Spa and Day Care to see if they could take my dog overnight. It was the week of Spring Break and Easter weekend. They said they were packed but please hold on. When they came back to the phone they said bring Porter on down and we will fit him in. They always care for my dog when we are out of town. They take great care of him and he loves it there. They are the BEST!!

Meadowmont Animal Hospital
190 Finley Golf Course Rd, Chapel HillAs a first-time dog owner and college student, I found Meadowmont Animal Hospital after a lot of research for my English Lab puppy, Zane. I wanted a smaller practice where he’d get the most personal attention possible and Meadowmont has exceeded my expectations.
A few highlights:
- Scheduled special appointments to keep Zane away from other pets during his energetic puppy phase.
- Provided regular updates and reminders via voicemail and email.
- Offered honest recommendations without pushing unnecessary treatments.
- Ensured flexible scheduling and quick responses.
- Maintained a kind and supportive practice that cares for both the owner and the pet.
Dr. Gordon and Dr. Robertson are both amazing, though we mostly saw Dr. Gordon. The whole patient care team—Madeline, Samantha, and Cassidy—has been fantastic. They've made coordinating Zane’s care easy and helped me manage costs which was a lifesaver for me as a student. We just finished Zane’s first surgery (neutering), and everything went smoothly. Overall, Meadowmont Animal Hospital has made caring for Zane much less stressful. I highly recommend them!

VCA Legion Road Animal Hospital
1703 Legion Rd, Chapel HillI’ve been using Legion Road VCA for the past five years now, and I’ve had a great experience. The vets and techs are professional, kind, and attentive when handling my cats. Dr. O’Brien went above and beyond to help me find a viable option for my cat’s exploratory laparoscopy, and even showed up on her day off to be present for his surgery! In my experience, pricing has been clear and reasonable, and I’ve had a great experience with scheduling and medication refills.

UrgentVet
1728 Fordham Blvd #161, Chapel HillI was extremely pleased with our experience at UrgentVet. We have a large goofy dog that likes to eat everything in his path. Someone threw chicken bones out of their window on our street and of course our dog found it on a walk and scarfed it down before we could even see that it was there. The staff at UrgentVet explained each step to remove the bone safely before it was performed and loved on our big boy like he was their own. The folks there are top-notch and I would recommend them to anyone!

Pet Sitting & Training

Chapel Hill Pet Retreat
6416 Alexander Dr, Chapel HillThis pet retreat, now under terrific new ownership, is excellent! Our 80-lb dog got 3+ hours per day of time outside playing with other dogs during his boarding stay. He absolutely loved that and did not want to come home! The place is squeaky clean, the kennels are roomy, and the staff and owner could not be kinder or more professional. We also liked the relatively small number of animals housed there, making us feel that our dog was not just a number to them (as he was elsewhere). Indeed, when we picked him up, all the staff knew him by name and reported at some length about his experience (made a lot of new dog friends and some new human friends, too!). No complaints at all from our dog and our family about this pet retreat. Highly, highly recommend!

New Hope Dog Training Center
719 New Hope Church Rd, Chapel HillI have a Jack Russell Terrier named Benny. Gene took him at 3 months for 21 days. Benny is a year old now and he’s the best guy to hang out with. He listens.. It’s not like hanging out with a drunk friend. Gene and Berk did their thing for 21 days and then they gave me three training sessions so they could also train me. It really was an awesome experience. I had a lot of anxiety about leaving Benny at 3 months old for 21 days. Gene picked up on it and put me completely at ease. He gave me a tour of the facility which was very nice and told me a lot about himself. It was easy to see that Gene loves dogs and takes his work seriously. I really enjoyed meeting Gene. I would definitely encourage you to take your puppy to Gene and Berk. Thank you Guys!!

Pet Behavior Help
5410 Wendell Rd, Chapel HillWorking with Valerie has been amazing! For a little bit of background my corgi came to her at about 1.5 years old with some progressively getting worse reactivity issues. I tried everything I could on my own but was at my wits end and really needed help. Since then I have worked with her for several months and wow what a difference! I remember crying everyday from taking my dog out for walks but now my dog and I are both building our confidence and bond with Valerie’s help. Valerie is so knowledgeable when it comes to this stuff and really takes the time to explain the why’s when it comes to training. I really recommend her as she has done so much good for my dog and I!!

Cheery Dogs, Llc
200 S Elliott Rd, Chapel HillThe trainers at Cheery Dogs are locked-in on how to train your dog with completely non-aversive methods that work. We were looking for non-aversive trainers, and they were the only ones I saw who stated on their home page that they would not be using e-collars or slip leads. Their puppy primer class is a brilliant blend of instruction and application. The trainers come around at the end of class and give feedback and support to each family. They meet you where you are and are able to help no matter your situation. We are already booked for the next level of class and are very much looking forward to working with them again.

Flair Fusion Restaurant
50100 Governors Dr, Chapel Hilldespite our original intention of going to tarantini, we were directed here by the owner because they were overbooked and oh my gosh: this was some of the best food I've had in my life. not to mention, the decor was very cozy and homey. shown below is the lamb shank risotto and the herb chicken milanese and gnocchi. the lamb fell straight off the bone and was the softest meat I've had in my life. the risotto was creamy (as promised) and the pesto gnocchi came with a piece of fried chicken, along with burrata which was an interesting combo that turned out to be tasty. not pictured but tasted was the classis burger with fries, lasagna, and ragu special. the burger had an insane patty that somehow was still juicy and tasty. the fries were crispy AND they were salted as fries should be. summary: ???

Xolos Tacos Y Tlayudas
300 Market St #124, Chapel HillWe are new to NC and Chapel Hill area and decided to stop and try an early dinner here. Never heard of it nor been before. Originated from the Bay Area, CA where there are plenty of Mexican restaurants. I gotta say, and being 100% honest here… I had the BEST and HUGEST and DELICIOUS Burrito I have ever had!! Soo much taste and amazing flavors! And not one, not two, but 3 types of protein inside, along with beans and rice and explosions of amazing tastes!!! It had chicken, carne asada and some spicy chorizo!! The server was pleasant and explained some of his favorites, of which included this burrito. HE prewarned me that it was HUGE and I would definitely be taking some home! I’ll see about that I said! Ha! He was right! I took a third of it home! Anyway, totally looking forward to going back and I am definitely having the same thing!!! Look at this HUGE work of art!!

Caffè Driade
1215-A, E Franklin St, Chapel HillOne of my favorite coffee shops in the Durham / Chapel Hill Area, and a space I think is really quite unique to this are (have never seen something similar elsewhere). The coffee shop itself is a tiny building in the middle of a beautiful wooded area, with lots of seating scattered throughout the trees & other garden area (limited seating inside, so come when the weather is good). There are also stairs down the back to another patio to sit on a little way down the hill, and then little paths along the hill which eventually connect up with a walking path at the bottom. It's a lovely place to come for a date or meet up with a friend--you can sit and drink your coffee for a bit, and then explore a bit. I've always come here to sit & sketch before, or just watch everyone's dogs. The coffee itself is well-crafted and delicious. I have come here many times, and my favorite drink is the ginger beer cold brew (so yummy). Their americano is also excellent, however. I have also enjoyed the Brown Sugar latte & Harvest Spice Latte when I am looking for something a bit sweeter. They've also got a yummy vegan (and gluten free) pumpkin bar which is big enough to share. On weekends, during midmorning and early afternoon, it can get quite busy, often with a line out the door (you may need to wait for 15-20 minutes, and sometimes it can be hard to find a place to park). However, if you do find a spot to park & are willing to wait, I have never had any trouble finding a place to sit (there's just SO many tables!).

Gov's Fusion Cantina
50050 Governors Dr, Chapel HillWe actually came here for burgers. We did not try the burgers. Instead, we had the appetizer sampler with with extra sloppy fries (we had asked for extra crispy, but that's fine), cheese quesadilla which was super cheesy, buffalo wings that were really good and the barbecue riblets which were also very good! My partner had a Bacardi and Coke And I had two different style IPAs. The service was really good, I'm not sure of our bartender's name but we all had each other laughing all night and he was very diligent making sure that everything came out okay and was on top of everything. Pricing wasn't too bad, we had only intended to spend a certain amount but of course we went over because the food was very good! It was good value for the money! Make sure you get the queso and chips, the chips are unique and very good! They fry them right there. They are not your average cantina tortilla chips.

Cat Tales Cat Cafe
431 W Franklin St, Chapel HillSuch a lovely experience! About a dozen or so cats with plenty of space to spread out, the number of people allowed in a reservation felt right for the space. One cat crawled onto my lap and cuddled with me, which was the sweetest experience. I was surprised that some of the cats I played with were new arrivals that same day - they seemed to be getting comfortable quickly, which I think goes to show how well cared for they are here.
