Below is what happened initially but all is good now!
Rented car with the return time being after hours because our flight was at 6am.
We returned the car in the Hertz car rental area, filled out the card and returned the key and card into the little after hours return key/card box up at the Hertz counter shared with the company next to them when you pick up your keys for the rental.
It was returned exactly as we received it aside from the few added miles from driving.
That was 5:15am on Aug 25, 2024.
Now it’s Sept 2, 2024.
Within that timeframe my credit card has been charged $100.00 EVERY SINGLE MORNING between 1am and 3am. I left Hertz 3 messages through their “contact us” online dorm throughout that time, and spoke to someone from their customer service, and I’m still being charged. The lady I spoke to said the originally never closed it out after I returned it, so she sent them that or whatever to close it. That was days ago, and I’m still being charged. I never heard anything back from the online forms submitted. They just charging away so I froze my card, and it just tells me every morning that they tried to charge it. I don’t know if I should go to the police about this or what. I don’t live near that airport. I’m not flying out to NY to go to the car rental spot.
All I’m saying for those reading this is be cautious. If you’re returning your rental after hours, maybe go with a different company because this one is causing financial stress and anxiety and I have no idea how to fix it. It’s literally every single morning, wake up to child crying, then check phone and Hertz charged another $100.00 to my credit card. They’ve not contacted me even once with any reason or question or explanation as to why they continue charging it. Again, car was taken care of and returned exactly as the rental agreement was written.”

“I'm a few months late, but better late than never. I took a trip to see some family in upstate New York back in June and flew into Syracuse (Syracuse Hancock International), with a National Car Rental reservation to drive up to Binghamton from there. This was when I ran into Marc Gardino, whom I had dealt with a year prior on exactly the same scenario.
Marc is always extremely courteous and just a great and helpful guy. Well, I had an issue with my reservation which could've significantly affected my trip, but I knew I was in good hands. Marc immediately stated it wasn't a problem and that he would take good care of me. He went above and beyond, and I couldn't thank him enough. I even went over upon returning the rental to give him my thanks again.
If anybody reads this review, Marc Gardino needs some recognition and/or a promotion. He's exactly the reason I will continue to be a National customer in the future. He's a great asset to your company!”
