I was pretty excited about this club when I first joined. It was a good rate and boasted a lot of amenities (like a movie theatre work out room!) Unfortunately my experience has been less than ideal. The gym is not well maintained- many of the machines are broken and broken equipment is not routinely replaced, even when I have made requests. The movie theater screen broke and over time, so did about half the machines in the theatre. Several months ago my husband went in to cancel me as a carrier of our membership and put it on his card. Unfortunately, they did not drop me as a carrier and I did not notice until 3 charges later, due to it drawing from an account which I rarely use. When I called today to try again to cancel, the woman on the phone told me I can't cancel over the phone and need to come in during a limited set of hours to speak with management about cancelling. I work during these hours and am often traveling, so this is not ideal. I think they want you to come in to try to convince you not to cancel. In general they are very salesman-like... I regularly used to be approached by trainers while I was trying to work out to try and sell me personal training sessions. I don't love being bothered while working out, so this put a bad taste in my mouth. When I joined the head trainer (who is now gone) actually called me on the phone at 10pm to try and solicit a session. One day when I was walking on then stair master and returning a text on my phone he told me to stand up straight. I didn't appreciate being bothered. The guy who has taken over management now is a nice person and is definitely trying to get things on track but I haven't had a particularly good experience with Genesis and wound up calling my bank today to put a freeze on any more automatic payments, since they won't let me cancel without coming in during work day hours. No one is any help on the phone and they wouldn't let me speak to a manager so I had to go another route.

The music group Genesis had a hit titled" Invisible Touch". Well this amazing Genesis health club on 12th Street and Main in downtown Kansas City has many visible and beautiful overt touches and positives that make it stand out as a health club and gym miles above the rest. 1) Hats off to the amazing team here. Troy is the kindest and sharpest superstar Manager who welcomed me, an out of towner( not a local and potential member) with class and enthusiasm; please note that I was a guest from NY visiting KC for the MNF game. Mac, Chandler and Brenna were just stellar with kindness. Loved the efficiency at the front desk and their smiles as they picked up towels in the cart from all over the gym. 2) Towel service( bath and workout sizes). 3) This gym is huge. The workout floor has all areas - free weights, cardio, abs, machines and the class room very well spaced. 4) The equipment is modern. 5) The locker room is immaculate. The supplies( soap, shampoo, shaving cream, lotion and paper towels( are well stocked. 6) 2 hours validated parking on the 4th floor in the adjacent garage with a 55 feet convenient walk to the gym entrance. 7) Open weekdays at 5 am. Perfect! 8) Beautiful, relaxed vibe in the health club with no wait or rushing for the machines or weights. I left each time with a bigger smile.

I have been coming down to Power & Light since April 2023 and I would like to say that every single time I come in and leave I'm greeted with and "have a good workout" or Hello or Bye! Everyone is so friendly but would like to say my last visit ERNEST, MARIA AND CALES went above and beyond to make me and my boyfriends workout comfortable and fun! So many thanks! I would recommend this location and club to anyone! If you visit this location check out the theater room! Its awesome!

We worked out in this gym while visiting KC. The staff is very kind and helpful. The location is very convenient with great views of the city. The place and equipment was very clean. Will definitely be back whenever we visit again!

I previously visited the Merriam location. I had not been happy with my membership and I stopped in at the P&L location with the intent of cancelling my membership with small hopes that it would renew my outlook on my membership. I was surprised with the customer service from Ernest & Maria upon arrival. I felt welcome and enjoyed all the nice amenities. I’ll be back to this location and I do not plan to cancel my membership now. Thank you!

This place is either fabricating reviews or paying someone else to do it. Notice they aren’t replying to bad reviews. The equipment is broke. The place is disgusting. I left a piece of trash in a treadmill cup holder a month ago and it’s still in there. They don’t clean. This place sucks and they obviously aren’t doing anything to make it better. Run. Away. Follow the reviews with all of the pictures and proof.

Best gym ever located right in the heart of the city! Check them out! Great deals, great people, state of the art equipment and you can guarantee to always make a friend here. Love this place!!!

I was visiting for the weekend and stopped in to this Genesis location and was very impressed. The team at the front counter was very friendly and accommodating. The place was busy but not crowded. I never had to wait for a piece of equipment. The location is a lot bigger than it appears. I’ve been to a few Genesis locations and this one is at the top of my list. Less of a country club and more of a dedicated workout facility.

It's all relative. There aren't many big gym options near the city. So, for KC folks, this place is above average. But in normal comparison, it's a borderline dump. That's also just Genesis for you. They bought a lot of run down Gold's Gyms equipment and spaces and have done nothing to make improvements in any of their gyms. Much of the equipment is in need of repair (one of many examples below). Anyway, pretty much all of it needs to be replaced due to obsolescence.

Still can't get the doors open at 5am, towel dispensers out of paper or not functioning, spray bottles that don't work, cardio equipment out of order, bathrooms in poor shape. Not worth the $ they charge

This is a cool gym! I love the big windows, the rooftop pool, and for being a downtown gym, there's a surprising amount of space. The staff are friendly and there's more than enough options to have a good workout. It's always clean and a very convenient place to workout.

I wanted to recognize the new manager, Patrick, for helping me with a billing issue that I have been dealing with at the Liberty location for months where I was getting doubled billed. I never received any follow through from the other managers I spoke to, but Patrick got the issue fixed within a few hours of my call with him. Thank you for your efforts in solving that longstanding problem!

Never had a problem with this gym until Genesis bought out previous owners. The gym itself is ok, but nothing to write home about. They have the rooftop pool, but that was already in place when the previous owners were over the gym. The personal training is a joke and a waste of money and they make it almost impossible for you to cancel it. There were moths I did not go in for any sessions and they still try to charge me for that month. When I try to cancel, the manager Chris Branham would always give me the run around and never follow through. I suggest looking at other gyms, as they’re are plenty out there with better service and equipment. And if you do decide to go here, beware of the personal training!

I'm a simple easy person I would say. Anyways, I love this gym cause of the open glass there is, allowing sun light to come in. Personally, I prefer this gym then the other gyms that I have gone (only been to two without open windows). Let me remind you, this is PREMIER gym!!! I normally don't talk to the staff, so can't help you with that . The girls locker room is always clean and very spacious (don't forget to bring your lock ). You can park at the garage beside the gym and bring the ticket inside to scan it and get 2 free hour of parking. The gym is clean and the people are friendly . Now there will be times when the gym won't open on time, like today (it was open at 9:35 am) just keep in mind that we ARE ALL HUMAN BEINGS and accidents can happen!!!! Overall, I love going to this gym. Hope this help
