“Exceeded expectations! Large kitchenette stocked with nice pans and dishes. The dish soap for hand wash and paper towels were much appreciated. Comfortable bed. Everything very new and clean. Friendly staff. Incredibly nice for a very reasonable price.”

“I'm very sorry to report that Higher Ground Hotel has closed. I don't believe the owner was very well when we were there last. They may have decided they just couldn't run it any more. (My speculation) Someone was there taking care of the place for the new owners. He said another company had purchased it. I hope it will reopen as a hotel or bed and breakfast. If the former owners see this, thank you for years of a wonderful place to stay when in the historic Independence area!”

“A very clean, nicely updated room with an incredibly comfortable bed! The black-out shade was an added bonus. I slept so much better than at home. The breakfast was average, but the desk staff and room attendants were very polite and helpful. This is my second time to stay here. Once Austin, this was a very pleasant experience.Rooms: Nicely updated and clean.Nearby activities: The movie theater is 2 minutes away. Lots of shopping options are nearby, including Target.Walkability: You can easily walk to Starbucks and other restaurants and shopping. Hotel is behind a shopping center.Food & drinks: There are a number of restaurants and sports bars within a 5 minute drive.Noteworthy details: This hotel has a clean pool that is family-friendly friendly. However, this is also a great place for those without kids.”

“A cheap motel in the outermost circle of hell. You get what you pay for, but if ya don't lock your car it may cost you much more! If your tags aren't good & don't like law enforcement id avoid coming and going from here often. They tend to camp at the entrance. Other than that if you keep your vehicle secure and don't bother the locals you'll be fine.”

“Lee went above & beyond at breakfast, he made us feel valued and appreciated. I also saw him take care of a very rude person with such patience & kindness. The front desk staff were also very helpful and friendly. Unfortunately, the indoor pool was freezing, but we enjoyed the hot tub! Great variety of restaurants close by. This is our "go to" local family hotel.”
