I went to pick my car up around 930. I took the shuttle to get there. I didn’t leave with my car until after 11pm. I had to wait in a line for over an hour and a half with my 9 month old. There were two people working the counter and 19 people in front of me. I don’t usually rent with Avis and this is probably why we don’t.When I got the van it was beautiful and brand new but the floor mats and other things were still in a bad in the middle of the two seats in the back. When I went to return my car at 4am I went to drop it off and the Avis bus driver was asleep in the shuttle, couldn’t get him to wake up. I had to drive to the office and literally just drop the van off.Overall the staff was not unkind , but the wait was terrible.

Avoid Avis care rental in Detroit. They had a long line of 12 to 15 customers and it took more than half hour. The person on the counter switched the care that I originally reserved and charged me much higher amount than what I had in my reservations.

Worst car rental service ever. Don't have anyone to pick up your rental, ask you to leave it there, and you get overcharged multiple days for it.Scam business that takes too long, don't go here

Stay away from Avis at DTW unless you want to waste a lot of time later trying to figure out how they messed up the paperwork. Wish I had stuck with Hertz.

We rented a car from the Detroit airport to drive back to Omaha, Nebraska. We paid for an SUV and we paid for SiriusXM radio. We received the car after a long wait at the airport and started to drive away and we had noticed the vehicle smelled like marijuana. The window had smoke film all over it. We were told the SiriusXM radio would work after 10 to 15 minutes and it never did. We normally rent from enterprise, but they had no vehicles available. At this Avis location, they had limited vehicles available. I would never rent them again.

My flight was 2 hours and 32 minutes. I stood in line for a reserved vehicle 2 hours and 15 minutes. No updates or announcements from staff. Avis isn't a pizza place. You have an idea of the base number of customers you will have and WHAT they want. Sad thing is, pizza places now send their customers text messages to update them on the progress of their orders and the ETAs. We received no explanation, apology for the inconvenience, or acknowledgement that we were there until a man who flew in to see his dying mother got angry after the 1st hour. Customers can be very understanding when businesses respect them enough to be transparent

When I read "3 hours to get I car, I don't believe it the first time" now I confirm, 3 hours, slow service, bad attitude from the avis guys, they don't give you information, they don't gimme the car I was looking for neither gimme some options, they just decided what car rent me, they don't clarified my doubts about invoice or how or when I'll return the car (talking about max time permits) also the car smells bad, it has a brake problem nobody report, so I will return it in the same way, sorry for the next guy who pick up the car, God bless you with that brake issues.Update Answering to Avis: where can I see my reservation number? As I told you before, your guys don't gimme any information, they don't send me any email, they just gimme a red paper with unreadable numbers... Also the car today still smells like cigarettes, I hope you don't fine/charge me for that smell, I don't smoke! Also I need a document to clarify the retention, 1,800 USD for the retention is in my account bank details.

You never find the vehicle you select on the app. What the point of being a preferred plus when the treatment doesn’t align with the adjective. So far disappointed in the overall experience at DTW location, wish the customer service was more courteous and helpful.

If you are flying into DTW avoid Avis. The lady at the counter during check-in was rude and unprofessional. I think I’ll be choosing a different rental company the next time I fly into DTW

Worst experience ever. The app never works, had to stop at the preferred counter every single time in line with 20+ people, more than 1 hour wait with only one employee at the counter. What’s the point of having a preferred program? Avoid Detroit airport Avis!

Can't say I've ever waited in line so long for a rental car. Probably over an hour and a half in total. It wasn't clear what the problem was, but there did seem to be a lot of standing around on both sides of the counter. A lot of talking in a radio with someone. Maybe a shortage of cars, but seems impossible with the sea of vehciles in the lot. Probably only served about 20 people before me with 4 personnel behind the counter and later 15 with a 5th worker.
