“UPDATE: Just want to give Ben at Plaza Art in Bethesda a shout out. The day after I posted the review below, he reached out to let me know that (1) not all the materials I ordered were available but that he put in an order from another store and that if the materials weren't in when I picked up my order, they would be in shortly after, and (2) he let me know that he reached out the people who can control the online coupon in the hopes that they could help me (no guarantee). Thanks, Ben for circling back and to see what you could do. Whether I get the coupon or not, doesn't matter, just grateful for the attempted assist!ORIGINAL POST: Bought supplies for a drawing and painting class at Glen Echo Park. Instructor sent an email stating that kits were available at the Bethesda and Rockville stores.. nope, not this specific kit. Had to order each (30) item online. Signed up as a new customer for the e-newsletter and $15 off coupon for new purchases. Email confirmation sent with coupon code. Tried to apply it and was told it was invalid. Purchased supplies anyway and called store immediately to see if coupon code could be applied. Was told, "no, we can't control anything through the online store." $300+ on supplies. No interest by staff to help me out and figure a work around. Cancel order, try again? Take order over phone? Nope. Frustrating experience.”

“Despite what everyone is saying, the staff was at least nice with me. Maybe because I'm bald and ugly and look sick. Anyway, got some more cute things for my lil sis's bday. This Choco santa gave me a good chuckle too”

“It's a small jar but a little goes a long way! I'm having fun trying it on different colors to see which I like it on most. Excited to redo furniture next! It's so pretty!”

“My favorite place visited during my trip, staff was friendly and kind. The shop was designed well and item’s featured were done great, lots of things to choose from and options available. For the size of the store compared to other large boxy art places back home this shop was definitely better than them and I felt more welcomed and one with art here. Came back twice during my 5 day stay in DC, and it was nice for them to have student discounts as well!!”

“The entrance is on Jennifer Street NW and a bit tucked away. The store is wholly underground. It is surprisingly bigger than expected, with a vast assortment of home decor and seasonal items. I parked across the street in an underground garage across Wisconsin Avenue for only $6.50 for all-day parking. You can try your luck with street parking. They had a ton of Christmas clearance at 70% off. I bought a bunch of DIY paint canvases at $3 each--what a deal! They have several self-checkout registers and attendants to assist you.”

“I am always intrigued by a spectrum yelp reviews that are one or five stars. That said, I have had one and five star experiences here (n=5) with little in the middle and the positives far outweighing the negatives. When stocked they have a splendid inventory at all skill levels but I have come in when stocks of the basics were depleted. I have had truly excellent customer service (friendly, knowledgeable, helpful advice without condescension) from multiple people and have also been on the receiving end of annoyance and avoidance from a staff member whom I was apparently interrupting with my questions. BUT the positives far outweigh the negatives, I keep coming back, and I recommend the store to friends and family and I have purchased mtrl on sale at a very good price point that I would not otherwise have experimented with. Bottom line : recommended.”

“Haven't been to the shop in a long time, probably since my kids were working on craft and science projects.I was pleasantly surprised to see that they have more than just fabrics and sewing things, the staff is super nice, helpful and seem to know we're just about everything was! It's really easy to get in and out if you park in the covered parking garage on the ground floor.Highly recommended...”

“The staff were all very nice at this location. I wanted to mention this, because so many other reviews mention rude staff. I spoke with three different people working in the store, and they were all very pleasant! Also, the prices are good. I shop the sales.”
