“This store is more than the sum of its parts. I went in today, not needing anything in particular. I ended up having a nourishing conversation and leaving with some Dream Lion incense. I almost second-guessed myself on the incense, because it was a little pricey, but I'm home in my study with some lit now and I think it's the best I've ever bought, its transcendentally good and it gives me faith in the quality of Tortuga's stock list in general!”

“In town for a concert and stopped by this neighborhood for food and stumbled on this shop. Friendly shop owner and cute, neatly curated selection of items. Some great Baltimore items and lots of fun, smile making items. I picked out a funny dish towel and toothbrush, and my daughter found a great clear purse that was exactly what we needed to take into the concert that night. If you're in the area absolutely worth a stop!”

“I visited the shop on 6/18/2023 and thought I had posted a review.Today I wore a pair of earrings I purchased from the store and they are GORGEOUS and great quality.What an amazing experience I had during my visit...the owners are super personable and knowledgeable. They gave me a one on one tour and history of many of the items.I purchased beautiful canvas, earrings, ring and Kuba cloth. I can't wait to visit again and HIGHLY recommend you visit Sankofa and/or an event they are hosting.”

“Just had one of the best shopping experiences in a long time. We visited all the flooring suppliers and Floor & Decor had the best options and inventory. We found exactly what we wanted at the price point we wanted. They had more expensive options and less expensive options, so anyone looking should be able to find flooring that meets their budget. The employees were all friendly and helpful. The store was clean, stocked, welcoming. They offered to hold our purchase (20+ cartons of materials) until we could pick it up and when we picked it up they loaded it for us. Top notch place.”

“I bought one of these candles online for myself and loved it so much I gifted another one to a friend in Baltimore. She loved hers so much she bought 3 more for herself. Amazing candles!Edit: Still 5 stars! I’ve purchased just about ever scent at this point and now have a few favorites: lemon & lavender, sea salt orchid, teakwood & mahogany, and botanical garden. I just purchased the Candle of the Month for the first time and I’m excited to try it! These are the only candles I buy anymore. Plus I’ve been using the empty apothecary jars to propagate my plant cuttings once I’ve used the candle up.”

“Really love this store! I’m new to Hampden and have really enjoyed poking around here—I always find something neat to take home. Went in with a friend today and the sales associates were super kind; they even let me take a unique coat right off the mannequin and buy it. They made sure all our goodies were wrapped and folded and secure for the journey home, & boxed up our gifts too. They produced a beautiful end grain butcher block exactly to my specifications, and did it quickly and for a lower cost than some of the larger, not so custom places I had looked into. “This is a wonderful small shop with all kinds of unique treasures. Some of the pieces are very old and delicate and some are replicas, but all the labels are very detailed. You know what you are getting and where it came from. I got a very small drawing and later bought two more. The owners are lovely people who actually travel the world to stock the shop.”

“My favorite shop on Gough street's gallery row, Night Owl is a beautiful, cozy location for original art and unique gifts. I recently purchased some lovely holiday cards that were created from original Baltimore cityscapes/scenes painted by the gallery owner, Beth-Ann. Her work is not only extraordinary but she is also a talented teacher offering crafting and painting classes (virtually nowadays because of Covid). Night Owl is a regular contributor and participant of Highlandtown First Fridays and hosts visiting artists offering varying goods from month to month. A wonderful stop for shopping if you're looking to support a woman-owned small business.”
