“Every year when I come to Winnetka, I always make it a point to shop Beat Street at least once. The owner and other staff have been super helpful when I needed it and just let me wander until I made up my mind other times. The selection is awesome! I always find multiple things I MUST have.”

“My new favorite store! Love all the stickers and I was able to make a custom button. The owner was super friendly and I appreciate her hospitality. Definitely recommend this spot if you’re in the area.”

“It's a cool space and concept with lots of small artists and makers under one permanent roof. It's kind of like a street fair, but always open. That said, like a street fair, most of the merchandise is a bit kitschy or generic. You're definitely not going to find much in the way of trendy or upscale pieces here. If you like art with sassy quotes or bold beaded jewelry, there's lots to find.”

“Stumble & Relish is an absolute gem of a shop. My go-to every single time I need a special gift. They always have just the right thing. And, of course, I also always manage to find something that just needs to come home with me. Jaime, the owner, is amazing, as is everyone on staff. Beyond the shop, they do so much for Evanston. We are super grateful to have them here and love being able to support such a great shop - and owner.”

Randi has such a wonderful range of items at all price points, you are bound to find something for your special someone. She’ll even make it look pretty for you ; so you don’t have to worry about wrapping it up. Need a card? She has those too!”

“Super cool stuff! Great for gifts and unique home finds. The young lady working there is super knowledgable, helpful, and patient. The buyer/owner needs to be commended for some great, unique finds. A bit pricey, but considering the high rent district, I get it.”

“I was kind of going between 4 and 5 stars, but thought to bump it up to a 5 because its a small business and exactly the kind of store you want in your community. The basic premise is that its a store that showcases Chicago based items and Chicago based companies. I really like it because its a great place to buy a unique gift for somebody. I would say most of the items lean towards "home goods", but if you ever need something for a housewarming party or need that last minute birthday gift, this place has you covered. If there is any "downside" is that their items tend to be a little bit on the expensive side. That really shouldn't be surprising as it is a small business supporting other small businesses. I also wish they had wider hours, but the foot traffic might not call for it. If you are looking for a cool Chicago gift for yourself or somebody else, I would highly recommend checking this place out! They are very nice and have some really good finds!”

“Super quaint shop that's got an extensive collection of religious/philosophical texts, Buddhist symbols, and Tibetan clothing/art. The prices are a little on the higher end (I spent $60 on my first visit for a book, two mala bracelets, and a print), but I didn't mind because it was supporting a local business. The shop owner escaped Tibet at age 7 and immigrated to the US after living for years in India. They've got a great knowledge of local Buddhist community gatherings/groups, as well as information about how you should plan your trip if you ever travel to Tibet. A must-visit in the NorthShore area for any of the sangha -- beginners or long-term practitioners-- as well as folks interested in learning about other cultures.”

“I grew up in Wilmette and naturally chose to go to Yellow Bird for my wedding invitations. Laura made the process seamless with her input, and it was so much more fun to pick out elements in person versus online. Prices were very comparable to everywhere else. Can’t say enough good things!”

“I've wanted to stop in Neighborly many many times, only to be thwarted by parking in Lincoln Square, or the times I've been able to find parking it has been early and the store wasn't open. Yay for Apple Fest, I was able to stop on by! They had a small booth at Apple Fest but I'm glad that we were still there when the store opened because as you may imagine, there was quite a bit more in store. They feature local artisans and lots of Chicago merchandise, from clothing to artwork. I bought baby's first hoodie here because it's super cute with the Chicago flag and everything! The staff were really friendly as well and happily they take digital wallets. Next time I have guests, this is the shop I'm going to suggest to them whether or not they think they want souvenirs, because they have a lot of great stuff here. I will definitely return as well because they have some lovely items that can work for home or as gifts. I especially would like to find a onesie or t-shirt for my daughter that has the Ork Posters (who own Neighborly) neighborhoods image on it.”

“I love a good punny name, this one based upon the name of the neighborhood (Ravenswood). I've driven by Ravensgoods so many times; if it wasn't here before I moved to the neighborhood, it opened shortly thereafter. This very tiny shop has a variety of items that would be perfect if you need to pick up a gift for someone. They have candles, greeting cards, jewelry, and several baby items. I ended up buying a cute little onesie that has is designed to look like the Chicago flag but with hearts in place of the stars. it's so cute and I can't wait to put it on my little ones. They had several other onesies that were cute. I mentioned to the shopkeeper that I wanted to get a little bean onesie, and she mentioned they carry them but they sell out so quickly and the woman who she gets them from is backed up in stock. It makes sense to me because they're adorable! I didn't realize they had them here so it's good I could pick it up from here if I can't find it elsewhere. Parking is on the street BUT you're in luck because the Brown Line station is half a block away. There's also street parking on Damen and possibly the surrounding streets (not sure, but because it's near a train station I'd suspect it might be permit parking on the side streets).”

“An eclectic mix of items can be found here, which makes it an interesting place to stop. You may have fun finding a gift here too. I didn't really expect to find anything here but I've been curious about it for about a decade. There's apparel, mostly with a Chicago bent to it; some children's clothing; cards; snarky socks; and even a large wall of tarot cards, which surprised me. The shopkeeper was friendly as well.”
