“This location used to be a County Market years ago. Now it’s a partial grocery store and partial resale store. A lot of people like this store but I’m confused why some of the groceries are so expensive here when it’s supposed to be like a safe haven for people experiencing poverty.
Yes prices are rising everywhere nowadays but check out the prices on the photos I posted here. Over $9 for some peppers? ?
Not the store’s fault but people steal carts from this store often (see photo)
But thank you to Salt and Light for being a place with food in this region of Urbana that is considered a “food desert””
“The University of Illinois Alumni Association is housed in the Alice Campbell Alumni Center building. This is a great area for alumni to visit while on campus and to meet other alums. There is a nice lounge area, library with past yearbooks and displays featuring prominent alumni. There is also an event space on the first floor. This building was open and parking was free on the Saturday when we visited. When on campus, I highly recommend that you go to the Alice Campbell Alumni Center!”
“This is definitely the best thrift shop in the Champaign-Urbana (Chambana) area! Here you can get your clothing, office/school supplies, home decor, sheets/towels/linens, kitchenware, and more. It was refreshing to walk through the store (old house) and find that everything was reasonably and affordably priced. I love to find unique things in addition to getting great deals; that's the fun of thrifting! This thrift shop satisfies both of those in spades. Other establishments left me dissatisfied by the lack of character in the items for sale and the high prices, but this store gave me what I was looking for. I do wish it was open a bit later because I'm not a morning person, but I understand that it is volunteer-run. I got some kitchen stuff for just a few quarters and a 100% linen button-up shirt for $5 (linen is expensive, so that's a fair price)!”
