Kurowski Sausage Shop is a fantastic and authentic Chicago institution, offering an absolutely delicious and wide selection of Polish specialties and European products. The shop is famous for its meats and sausages, with over twenty types of smoked kielbasa made and sold on-site. It is a place that smells as good as it tastes. Beyond the sausages and meats, which some say are even better than in Poland, the store sells European butter, cheese, dill pickles in a barrel, gluten-free bread, sweets, perogies, and various soups and salads. They also have a hot food bar offering a great Polish lunch selection and a refrigerated case featuring items like a carrot slaw with raisins, other pickled items, and coleslaw. The salespeople are described as super nice, amazing, smiling, talkative, and helpful. The humble market offers these interesting Eastern European goods at reasonable, insanely low price points, providing a peek into the historically large Polish immigrant community. It is considered a serious mistake to miss this establishment during a visit to Chicago. For a unique experience, insiders suggest checking the top of the stainless counter for discounted broken kielbasa and visiting the pastry case, especially on Paczki Day.
