My mom has been here for 6 days. I am her primary contact in her medical records and consents . I have requested an update from any medical doctor or PA from the nurses and her case manager prior to her discharge. She has requested the same. I have always been involved in her discharge planning because she is legally blind and relies on us, her family, to help manage her medical needs. Yesterday I called Patient Relations and was told that because my mom is A&O x4, they will only communicate with her and that if I want any information I can ask her and that the only way I can speak to anyone taking care of her is if I "happened to be visiting while the care provider stopped in her room." Note: I live in California. I'm still trying to process the level of rudeness and unprofessionalism from Patient Relations. I've never had an issue speaking with my mother's providers in the past (at the main Yale campus). Yes, my mom is A&O x4, but that does not mean she is going to remember or understand everything the doctor said (and being legally blind she can't exactly take notes or read the printed discharge instructions), and that is why she requests they speak to a family member so we can assist her. I'm not a stranger trying to get random info. I'm a daughter who had questions for the doctor in order to ensure my mother is able to correctly follow up with their recommendations. So be aware: Per patient relations, if your loved one can correctly state their name, date, location and why they are there, the staff will strictly only communicate with them. But fear not, there is a chance that you may be able to eavesdrop on a conversation the doctor has with them if you happen to be visiting at the right time.

My husband spent two days in the ER this month at St. Raphael's Hospital. We have been to this ER several times and have been satisfied. This time was completely different. The staff were rude and cold. Nurse Amanda S said in her report that "I did not show learning" when I questioned why my husband could not be put in a curtained area, when one became available. When I was at the nurses station speaking with the doctor and stated that my husband had just had surgery and was concerned with infection, another staff person interjected "well you shouldn't have brought him here then". I wasn't even speaking to that person. After two days in the ER my husband went to rehab. By the time he arrived, he was completely dehydrated per the PA from the facility. He had a very difficult time speaking and functioning at all. If I don't hear back from Patient Relations, I intend to take my concerns to the CT Department of Health. My husband's care was totally unacceptable.

My Mom was in St Raphael's hospital for not eating from being sick. By the time she left she had acidic burns from acidic diarrhea.Mom was left in her feces!! It was horrific!! The doctors rotate I believe every week to two weeks!! So what happens is they can't keep up!! So after you work with someone for 2 weeks a whole new team comes in!! My mother suffered at the hands of Saint Raphael's hospital in New Haven Connecticut!! Please don't ever send your loved one to St Raphael's hospital it's a slaughterhouse We are taking legal action..

I was a visitor recently and was horrified at what I saw. The doorman valet was a rather slovenly creature who approached my car and attempted to direct me with a mouthful of food and then brought me to the main entrance where he promptly resumed gobbling down his meal at his valet podium. Very unprofessional. Once inside the staff at the information desk were absolutely clueless and had to ask 2 other staff members that came along before anyone could tell me how to get where I needed to go. As I made my way through the hospital and went to different floors on the elevators I found the place to be overall rather dingey and dirty. Later in my visit, I was in the lower basement level and apparently near the dining services kitchen area. Right out in the hallway were these two giant dolley carts filled to the brim with leftover food scraps and I thought I was gonna hurl! So gross and smelley.. nothing was in trash bags.. just piles of slimey food ! Imagine walking past a dolley full of leftover cold and days old mac & cheese, and god knows half rotten whatever as a hospital visitor. I would hope to never be a patient at this Yale New Haven location. I would be afraid to eat the food and of the general lack of cleanliness.

I'm writing this as strictly a visitor. I have no first hand experience for the medical care provided here. So, if you can, get street parking on Chapel street. It's much closer to the main entrance and orange elevator to visit the patients. But if you're like me, and just read the directions on the website, you're going to park in the garage on St. George's Street. It's a bit set back from the road and kind of hard to see because of construction being done around it. But follow the arrows, and it does seem to have sufficient spots for visitors and little cards by the elevator to remember what floor you're on. Go down to the first floor, turn left, through the glass doors, and congratulations, you've reached the back entrance! This is great if you're going to what seems to be a small lecture room halfway down the hall. But my friends, if you're going to see a patient, they hand you a MAP. From the visitors parking lot, you still need a map to see your sick loved one. Something was designed badly. I briefly wondered aloud if I should just send mine a card. "Oh no, once you get by the TJ Maxx and Marshalls..." "What?!" "Just kidding!" There was, however, getting by a gift shop, pharmacy, cafeteria, and coffee bar. Then I actually got to my floor, and had no idea how to find her room. I ended up in a ward I probably wasn't supposed to be, and a nurse took pity on me and showed me the rest of the way. This hospital is extremely Catholic, at least in history and decor. Not a negative, because on your epic trek there's some nice art and plaques to read. Everyone there is very nice, even though the employees are probably exasperated by lost visitors. The negatives are actually the rest rooms. They need a bit more attention then currently being received, and visitors could help with that by not leaving their toilet paper draped around the floor.

People wonder why US healthcare is so expensive. Here is the reason why - the government makes the hospitals invest trillions of dollars into electronic health records - only for no one to actually read or take next best action on the data that is there. My mother was admitted to the hospital from the ER with a spinal compression facture (and by the way this was her second time to the ER - the first visit 3 days prior "they couldn't find anything). OK - so she gets admitted. The spinal surgeon ordered an MRI. Unfortunately my mother needed to be sedated so it took a few days to have this scheduled. They gave her a COVID test (this is routine) the night before and it came back positive. They had to cancel the MRI. Fine- I get it. Now they are discharging her and I was told that the MRI was rescheduled as an outpatient on for the following Tuesday. Come to find out someone cancelled that appointment and now I have to call to reschedule. One hour later (transferred at least 5 times), I am told the earlies they can get her in for an MRI with sedation is March 2023!! (Note today is November 10, 2022). Furthermore, had I not asked the discharge planning nurse about the MRI, no one would even be working on this. All they are concerned about is pushing people out as fast as possible and blaming it on Medicare and telling me to call my congressional representative to have Medicare laws changed. Am I getting paid by Yale to do their work? No I am not. This is unacceptable patient care. More than likely this is why so many people end up back in the ER and hospital. They can't do it right the first time, so after several tries hopefully they will get it right. We need to hold people accountable for outcomes - not pushing people from place to place.

St. Raphael campus is so terrible. My husband is in there right now. The FOOD SERVICE is awful, they bring him the wrong food other than what he ordered. The food is always cold and very late. He's in a room with someone who should be in the mental ward. It's terrible there. He gets the wrong food when he orders. He gets a totally different order. The nurses on his floor couldn't be sweeter. They try to do everything, they go way above & beyond their duties. The nurses are excellent but the food service SUCKS.

This Review is about yale new haven hospital location at 175 sherman ave new haven ct only.I took a handicap family member to see her Cardologist at 175 sherman ave 2nd floor (Yale new haven health) This building is under construction and the is no parking for patients unless you have propark valet your vehicle and the way they drove some patients cars,There no way in hell they are driving mine..This building should be shut down till construction is done,it is a hazard,I had to get my family member out and the street meter only take coins or credit card thru new haven parking website another joke,Getting her to the door and then walk thru a construction site inside of 175 sherman ave Which was far distance to get to the elevator so i could get her to the 2nd floor..I was not the only one upset which ths problem,This location should Be SHUT Down till finish with building work,Yale shame on you...For making it hard for people to see ther doctors and making it even more worse for the Handicap people !!!!!! But Note theres alot of parking for the workers doing the construction in the old parking alot next to this location!!!!!

This was probably the best surgical experience, as a parent, that I have had with my son. The facility was beautiful and clean and didn't have the antiseptic hospital smell that can add anxiety. The professionalism of the staff was extraordinary. All smiles, all helpful, no eye rolls, no delays. I was expecting to be stuck in a room for an hour with my son just waiting. The punctuality was astounding. No time was wasted. We weren't just sitting around doing nothing for very long. The communication was great too. The texting feature was a nice and unexpected touch. The lady at the front desk was very sweet and calming. All in all, I would choose this surgical center again in the future if I had the choice.

I just left unit sal floor room 269.i had major neck surgery. As a retired social worker supervisor in the field for many plus 39 years. I would like to say thank you for wonderful experience from this unit and all the team members. Down from the maintenance guys to the heads nurse's all the clinical techs cna. As busy as the were the unit was full They took time out no attitude of bothering them because you ring the bell .I was so proud to see a happy caring overworked!!!team. So I spent a couple of days over the weekend in the hospital from the time I got there till the time I left I have to say The doctors and nurses and staff were absolutely phenomenal. I drove to the Yale New Haven hospital Saint Raphael. I was taking it quickly Examined and after a short time moved up to a room. They did everything to make me comfortable while treating me. And special thank you to my nurse Jennifer we need more people like you.

My 73 year old dad was sent to the Saint Raphael's emergency room by his foot doctor to begin antibiotics due to a severe foot infection. The emergency room was very clean and quick. The receptionists and nurses in registration were very friendly and helpful. Because of the current pandemic I had to send my dad off alone after registration. I brought him in around 4pm and he was treated in the hallway for 6 hours, finally getting into a bed at 10pm. He was put into a room with a raging alcoholic that they had tied to the bed. He was a constant nuisance. Yelling all night and spoiling himself constantly. This is totally unacceptable. This person should've been placed away from someone dealing with having an amputation. Instead he was left. My dad did not receive the care and attention he deserved. When I picked him up to finally come home he was exhausted and disgusted. He told me about the awful experience and he never ever wants to go back to that hospital!
