“The women who work here are so knowledgeable about plastics! I had a polyethylene water tank needing repair and they had all the right advice. The trick being heat (flame) treating the plastic before the repair is attempted. Appreciate this so much!”
“Repeat female customer here. I manage a no-spray, organic veggie/flower farm and rely on Hida's carbon steel (CS) tools for quality, edge retention, and beauty; I am ALWAYS impressed. I have multiple Hida CS shears and pruners and so long as they’re wiped clean after use, they do appear to resist rust. Well-made and long-lasting, the Chikamasa T-600 shears are my latest addition. Thank you Hida Tool!”
“Pg&e reported that power was going to be off from 8am to 5 pm today (02 15 24) ... I went to start my generator around 8 am and it was not not running right at all, I took it to HK engine and they had it back to me repaired in 90 minutes to 2 hours top! They gave me priority because they knew the power was out at my house... Fantastic business!!!”

“I appreciate this place :). OSH is old school and much more pleasant experience than other big hardware stores. They have all the basic. More specialized things might call for other stores but this is my go-to whenever possible.
Finding someone to help isn't always the easiest but it's likely because they are helping someone else.
I always get great support and friendly people.
Philip Rogers was working temporarily at the Ashby store from his normal Moraga location... And he was awesome. We tracked down exactly what I needed and had a great conversation to top it off about the history of sound recording for movies and music in Emeryville/Berkeley and some of the trailblazers in the area (which he is one of).

Whenever I've needed help with a plumbing or other crisis, I've brought in a photo of the problem, was given clear instructions on how to repair the issue, the parts I needed... Jay, the owner, and other employees have always been respectful, helpful... never condescending as I'd experienced in other hardware stores which I thought was because I was female and seemingly stressed.”

“I never write a review unless I read the previous comments. Very nice comments. A couple of them weren't happy, but that's o.k. Today was my first day going there. Nice location with ample parking. I needed a flower pot, wing nuts, and washers. The garden section was on the left. I went in and picked up a pot, I left it at the counter... didn't want to seem like I was trying to walk out. Looked around for what I needed. Couldn't find it ,I was lost. I walked up to the counter and stood behind the people in front of me. That line was for key making. I stepped out and saw a man walking quite lazy. I caught up to him, and I asked him where the washers and nuts were, the smell of alcohol shot through my nose. He pointed to the aisle. I noticed he had two finger nails painted red. #13 was where I needed to go for what I needed. Found the washers and the nuts, but the nut I needed didn't fit my screw. It went on but wouldn't screw down. I looked around for help, and here comes the same man who showed me the location. I told him the nut didn't fit, and I checked the sizes. He said, "Maybe we're out. Didn't walk to aisle 13 to see if i was looking in the wrong boxes. He just walked away. Thousand of nuts and bolts, and they were out. So I asked another person. He looked at the screw and said, "It was metric. That's why it didn't screw down. Metric nuts were in another section. I didn't know. We'll I purchased the flower pot and the hardware and was pleased. It was just the guy who seemed like he was drunk and just didn't want to work. This is a family owned business. The owner needs to investigate.”
“It's like a "penny candy store" for tools!(I realize many of you have no idea what a "penny candy store" is, but I think you can figure out based upon the name.)I always come back with more than what I needed. The crew is always friendly and helpful, it's always a fun excursion.”
“My boyfriend and I stop by here at least a couple times a month because it's close to his place, we both like supporting local businesses, and the staff is always very friendly and helpful. When it came time to upgrade his grill, my boyfriend wanted to patronize the Moraga Ace. He had spent a couple of weeks researching grills, and we went to several stores to look at their inventory. In the end, the grill we chose was not in stock at Moraga Ace, so the owner, Bill, worked with us directly to order the grill. He and his staff assembled and delivered the grill, then Bill gave us several tips on where to put the grill in the backyard and made sure that we were both comfortable connecting and disconnecting the propane tank, turning the propane on, and lighting the various burners. Then he gave us a few tips about how to grill different types of meats and veggies! He even threw in a complimentary long-handled grill brush. Later that weekend, we dropped in for some non-grill-related items and Bill made sure to greet us and ask how the new grill was working out for us. :)”

“I've been purchasing construction materials and lumber from Truitt & White for around 12 years now. They have a good selection of materials, and most of the lumber is typically in stock. On the occasion that I needed to place a special order for lumber, they received it quickly. Their customer service is good. The staff is knowledgeable and well-informed about their products. “Last week, I purchased a pizza slicer from another store, but it broke when I attempted to use it. I came to Laurel Ace to get a replacement because I know that its products are sturdy.
Marcos, the associate who assisted me, not only directed me to the proper aisle, but, to my surprise and gratification, TESTED the slicer to make sure that it would hold up! As if this wasn't enough, I also told me that I could bring it back if I had any problems.
I ALWAYS get great service at my neighborhood Ace, but young Marcos is among the BEST associates who I've ever been blessed to deal with. You can NEVER lose by going to Laurel Ace, particularly if he assists you.”
