“I've been into sandwiches lately & wanted to try a new place in Oakland. Tucked inside a small little corner lies Mulberry Market. Order: The Crombie- double salami, mortadella, provolone, lettuce, tomato & pepperoncini on sourdough. Although they ran out of the sourdough bread the white bread substitute didn't effect the outcome. The amount of meat is plentiful & you really have to take a big bite to get to the meat. The Crombie is a great new addition to their already delicious sandwiches. So come hungry & leave happy!”

“Sharif’s is my spot! And has been for as long as I’ve been living in West Oakland. My go to for my morning coffee, paper, drinks, fresh veggies and ice cream..and of course lil here-and-there’s like hot sauce, noodles, air freshener, TP, etc. Whole family who runs it are good folks, and they keep their store stocked and make sure they ask their customers what we need or would like to see them in keep in stock. They recently renovated/expanded the interior, and it looks awesome! Super spacious, more fridges, new slushy machines, and revamped fresh veggie section amongst other nice upgrades. Love these guys. Quintessential neighborhood corner market.”

“Yuen Hop has been around for a while. They have produce and various Chinese/Asian candies and dried goods. They have frozen dumplings and pot stickers. What they're most known for is their fresh noodles which you cook up yourself at home. Keep in mind that fresh noodles can go bad relatively quickly compared to dried noodles and some of them cook quicker than others.”

“Continues to improve in all ways. Great owner and service. Always lowest prices. Usually a short wait. New credit card pumps have helped. CC prices same as cash.”

“They have propane exchange here. Full service gasoline means THEY pump the gas for you, NOT that they have all types of gas. What a small world, I know these people from elsewhere, as shop keepers, sellers of things at another gas and food locale. Happy to see them expanding or running other business. I don't know what others think, but they are good people, I've never had an issue with quality, honesty, service past what is expected or posted, and if given the choice of them or someone I don't know I'd go here. That said, prices are decent, place is clean, things work, I've always been able to get a coffee at any time of day or night a I thank them for this very very much. The locals are at times past nuts, looney tunes dope smoking dancing and singing in it doesn't matter the temp or anything, they on one and it's good, but if you there when they realize they have no more and they dont have the funds either..... smile nod or say incoherent "I dun know bout that now ya hear now" like it was a mantra, get to the car and DRIVE!”

“Good guys. Always friendly and willing to turn my $5 bills in lots of quarters for laundry. I've seen them deal with dozens of drunks, crazies and meth heads and they always keep their cool.”

“For a corner store these guys have a good grasp of the preferred foods and brands people in the neighborhood want and they keep them well stocked. Prices are not unreasonable, they take EBT, and above all else are not just polite but actually friendly. They keep the place clean as well.”

“Great location. Good storefront. Good prices for fuel, given the times we live in. Though they could be lower and this location would still turn a hefty profit for the owners.”

“For starters it doesn't look like that anymore has been updated. It's beautiful the next time I'm that way I'll take pictures. I even have fruit and vegetables some in there now.”

“This is THE spot to go if you need cigarettes, an adult or any other beverage, & any other random thing you may need or didn't know you wanted. This place is run by good, hard-working guys & it functions how a good business should. They recognize me as "Kamels with a 'K' guy." I just so happen so smoke Kamel Red Lights, & my name starts with a 'K. I'm kool with that. I once asked if they had candles by chance; for a vigil I was holding. I didn't see any on the floor, but it never hurts to ask. Some emergency candles were brought out”

“This is a shout out to David (one of the cashiers) he is helpful and polite every time I come to the Arco AM/PM. This is a very busy gas station & I'm sure the staff are over worked and under paid thank (David) for helping today when I was in a rush.”

“The man behind the counter is so lovely and helpful. The selection of foods really was great -- meats, cheeses and tea. Mostly, this felt like a family business that welcomes everyone who comes through the door with gratitude and heart. In these times, this is the kind of market I like to support.”

“I had heard several recommendations about the burgers in this little market and they were right. The burger and fries I had today were excellent! All the food was fresh, fries were perfect and the service was friendly! I'll definitely make this my new burger spot. On a side note the mini market section has everything you might need on a moments notice, from snacks & ice cream to NyQuil and aspirin, although I didn't see dairy or bread items which is probably a smart thing since their 'expiration' dates are short,”

“Update as of 12/24 they have their liquor license back. This store is a great corner store with average corner store prices. They normally have change if you need quarters for laundry. They have a policy that customers have to wear masks due to Covid and have a plexiglass shield separating customers and staff at checkout.”

“I called and after ringing thirty times without going to voicemail, someone picked up the phone. I ask if they have the Financial Times, he goes to check and returns to say they do. I say I'm on my way. It's Saturday. Parked my rental car right next to the Oakland Tribune building on 13th Street, the one with a street art picture of a thug with two knuckledusters, one with "Love" and one with "Hate" on it. Walked past a guy sitting at an outdoor table scrolling through phone, smelling of weed. At first I wasn't sure I was at a newsagent's--it looked more like a spacey grocery store. A young White couple, both dressed in black, the girl with reddish hair and a wide-brimmed, pointy witch's hat, were browsing. The Black teller tells me he kept a copy of the FT for me behind the counter. Cash only. He breaks a $100 bill, thanks me. I'm about to leave and say to him, "This is an interesting place. It's more than just newspapers!" He gives me the exact same "Thank you." I want to leave, but unable to resist, I wander around. Grocery stuff; Chips, gum, snacks, soda et al. Ice-cream, cold drinks. ATM. Coffee mugs! Magazines. Books, new and old on one shelf, mostly commercial fiction; political literature; some socialist stuff; baseball hats. Sporting memorabilia. In the back I find newspapers--Friday's Financial Times, NYTs, etc. I pick up yesterday's FT paper, go up front and pay full price for it, and leave with two newspapers instead of one. Epic!”
