“We were in for 10 days from out of town at the end of May. I rented a mid size pickup truck. They did not have any available, so they kindly upgraded me to a full size truck - fine with me as that is what I drive back home. The truck has some bad smoke in it. I tried the first evening to air it out, wondering if it was a worker or what not cleaning in which the smell lofted out of. It was not, someone in the past had definitely smoked in the truck. I drove back (45 minutes) and asked if they couldn't swap me out. My wife is very sensitive to smells and this would not work. They kindly switched me out and gave me a discount. Very friendly and understanding. Upon return they ensured all was good with my rental. They noted and apologized for the first rental, and ensured the replacement was acceptable. Now this is customer service. I had a terrible time with budget at the PSP Airport the year prior. I will never rent from Budget at this location again. Alamo and Enterprise is the way to go. Keep it up!”

“Update:
The initial vehicle I rented (2023 Ford Explorer) had almost 40K miles on it and the front wheel wells were tattered and disintegrating. This vehicle was dirty as well.
On the second day we had it, a strong terrible smell was coming out of the AC. It was so bad you could not run the AC.
We were an hour away from PSP Avis/Budget. I first called in to Budget Customer Service to create a ticket for the issue. Then I drove the hour back to the PSP Avis/Budget. The smell was so bad that I could not run the AC on the way to Budget. The vehicle's exterior temperature thermometer was reading 108 degrees.
However, once I arrived at PSP Avis/Budget. The 40ish gentleman with the beard at the rental car return was customer focused & polite and gave me good instructions on what I needed to do to switch the vehicle.
Inside the rental car area, the middle-aged gentleman at the PSP Avis/Budget desk was customer focused & gracious, and he promptly switched out the tired and stinky 2023 Ford Explorer for a 2025 KIA Telluride. He helped me greatly and got me on my way quickly.
The persons at PSP Avis/Budget rental car return and at the main desk were the only reasons I gave 4 stars. I would have given 5 stars if I did not have to return the smelly Ford.
I think the main issue that is entirely fixable is possibly the techs behind the scene who prep the cars for rental may need more training on attention to detail, weeding out older some-what damaged vehicles, inspecting, and cleaning vehicles.”
