“My fiancé has a huge collection of crystals and various gemstones, so we stopped in here on a whim to see if we could find anything to add to it. The staff were so lovely and knowledgeable. Everyone was happy: I walked out with a cute fossil, my fiancé got to geek out about crystals with someone who knows what they’re talking about lol (because it’s not me), and a few items were added to his collection. I recommended highly this beautiful and unique place.”

“The shop is very quaint and artsy. Lots of ocean-themed items reminiscent of coastal New England gift shops. We bought a small ceramic for a good price, and the lady who rung us up was very polite. Thank you Lady”

“Great car collection. It is a mistake not to visit the vault. The Tesla exhibit is lame. People working there are great. The cafe isn’t bad at all. Overall, would go again.”

“I have never enter this store but I did wait for my brother in the car meanwhile he got a Siddur for me. I observed how the owner walked with my brother towards the books and probably explained to him what the book was for. It took me a while to read the Siddur. Know that I read it every morning and night, I’m very happy with it. May God continue to bless this shop. ?”

“Amazing selection of records and other ephemera. My boyfriend got really into Gundam recently and I was so happy to find a first pressing of an OST for the second film here. Legacy businesses like these are what makes Little Tokyo special.”

“For years this shop was originally on second street. It was fully supplied with items for the kitchen, dining, and other Japanese items. This shop is much smaller, no room to roam around like the other shop, where you could ogle and awe at wares. The owner of this shop is helpful. They have an adequate selection of ikebana vessels from Japan unlike anywhere else in LA. The prices are average considering import costs. Overall this shop is an important mainstay in the Japanese community.”

“We LOVE Gum Tree. The cafe is outstanding. Excellent, healthy, fresh, and always tasty bites. Coffee, espresso, chai, teas made to perfection. The baristas are sweet, cool and service is on point. Lori and hubby are awesome. Great patio to take in passersby. Local, non bougie. We love bringing our out of town friends/family and when they return Gum Tree is first on the list to revisit. That is not only because they love the cafe but because the shop is soooo wonderful. So many beautiful things. So beautifully curated. It feels good the moment you walk in. We always find the perfect gifts for any conceivable occasion. The jewelry is stunning. The home goods....!! Every year a new ornament, or two, for the tree. I love poking through even if I don't need anything.Looking forward to the Tree lighting in Manhattan Beach tonight and stopping into the MB shop (haven't been by yet) for some holiday cheer.Good on ya'”

“Glad this place still is around. Felt kind of nervous that they may have disappeared when I saw that their location moved. I used to go to this place a lot when I was living in the area and I would still visit when coming into town. It was great to connect with one of the owners, and very happy to hear that they are thriving and continuing to do well. Keep up the great work you guys!”

“I LOVE this place!! I've never been able to get any Arknights merch even at anime expo. So seeing it here was so awesome. A lot of genshin stuff too if you're into that. I'm an avid cat girl fan and a LOT of the stuff they have here are cat girls so this place was literally heaven.”

“Can't recommend FDGS enough. We came here to get some holiday shopping done and did not leave disappointed. My partner found the perfect sunglasses for her and the workers were very attentive and helpful in helping her find the right size, tint, etc. I believe they said they would be able to replace the lens/tint at a later date if needed, for a fee. They also carry clothing, accessories, books, magazines, fragrances, and various little home goods. Glad to see them support friends, too. I love any place carrying Towndust.”

“I went here to find a gift for a holiday gift exchange. My first visit I was thrilled to find a curated selection of products from books, to notecards, jewelry, candles, bath salts and lotions, to name just a few. The broad selection made it easy to find gifts, and the clerks were very helpful. You can get up to three gifts gift-wrapped for free, and she did an amazing job. Stronly recommend - this store is a gem!”

“Giant Robot is a cute little store with trinkets and such. They offer blind boxes, tokidoki clothing, pins, artists’ products, and collectibles. They have a wide selection of blind boxes like Sonny angels, Smiskis, tokidoki, and Kitan Club brand. They also feature products from local artists like prints and soft goods. As of fall 2023, they still require masks to be worn, but offer them at the front.”

“After Necromance, sadly, closed their brick and mortar shop, there was a brief period in time where their combination of taxidermy and Victoriana was no where to be seen. I'm a big fan of Gold Bug in Pasadena, but they are not quite as "dark" in their aesthetic. Memento Mori, on the other hand, feels like a pretty good replacement. So, what are you going to find here? Well, as you may have guessed from my intro, taxidermy. The classic boars and deer heads preserved as wall ornaments...but also delicate butterflies beautifully arranged under glass domes. While no where near as extensive a collection of preserved animal parts as Necromance, there still is a decent collection, particularly for decor. Memento Mori also lacks the strong mothball smell that permeated the aforementioned store. There is a large collection of silver jewelry incorporating classic taxidermy elements, such as glass eyes. And lots of trinkets for those of a "gothic" aesthetic. They also carry a number of very comfortable tshirts bearing variations of their logo, one of which currently hangs in my closet. Memento Mori also appears to serve as a gothic community center: they always have flyers and posters advertising events such as Endless Night, a vampire-themed ball, or gothic-themed fairs for artisans. So, definitely worth a visit if your aesthetics or predilections lean to the darker side of life.”
