Paco Collars
2905 Shattuck Ave., BerkeleyI bought a Paco Collar for my now 13 year old dobermann girl before she was even born. One of the jewels came off and without hesitation they sent me, not one, but a whole pack of replacements. Not one has fallen off since. Bear in mind, I live in the UK. The collar is still going strong and will be handed down to the new boy, for hopefully another 13 years

Healthy Spot
1510 Walnut St, BerkeleyHealthy Spot is my primary go to spot for food, snacks, bones and holistic supplements. Dianne's like the MVP all day, every day over there in the Berkeley store. Her depth of knowledge crosses many different product sets and services. She is extremely versed in holistic supplements for a dog's overall health, physical and mental well-being. She has recommended game changing holistic supplements that I've integrated into my dog's daily life. For my 5yr old American Bully, HeiHei's pain management program allows him to lead a thriving & healthy lifestyle. HeiHei is on a monthly holistic supplements of Standard Process (Ligaplex II, Musculoskeletal, & Boswellia Complex), Connectin and Bixbi joint mushroom powder for my dog's hip, knee, joint dysplasia & osteoarthritis, that he was born with. He's my lovable lemon. Because of Dianne, I also felt comfortable putting HeiHei on a raw food diet of frozen duck necks, chicken and turkey necks which has kept him lean and fit for an 80 lb. large size dog. For treats, they have a huge selection of high-quality snacks. HeiHei's favorites are bone broth, long gullet sticks, beef taffy long sticks, massive tendon bones, generous freeze-dried options like duck & chicken necks, Stack that Cheddar & Gouda, etc. Your dog will live longer knowing Dianne and Healthy Spot Berkeley. You're welcome.

Pet Care
Campus Veterinary Clinic
1807 Martin Luther King Jr Way, BerkeleyCaring, compassionate knowledgeable care Is what we have consistently received over the past 12 years. They were with us for the entirety of my labs 12 years from his first shots till being put to rest last August after cancer. They continue to care for our four-year old maltipoo, and our recently rescued one year-old pitbull. we are grateful to have such a strong team there for us when needed.

University Vet Hospital
2002 Sixth St, BerkeleyMy dog was wounded. I got an appointment that morning. Vet tech was kind and gentle. Doctor cleaned and examined her wound. She was thorough and caring. I saw 4 other dogs come in that morning. People and animals were all calm, unafraid. The best experience I've had at a veterinarian. Doggy is back to her old self in 12 hours. This is my new vet!

Berkeley Dog & Cat Hospital
2126 Haste St, BerkeleyWe've consistently had a great experience with all of the staff, vet techs and veterinarians at Berkeley Dog and Cat Hospital. They've taken great care of our dog who has a rare and serious bleeding condition, both in the acute emergency as well as outpatient settings. For primary care we currently see Dr. Sirkis, who is great. Even though our dog's condition is very rare, she takes the time to research questions we have to give us an informed response.

PETS Referral Center
1048 University Ave, BerkeleyI've had to bring my 9 pound small dog here three times for emergency situations, and one time for surgery to repair her torn CCL - Cranial Cruciate Ligament (basically like a human ACL).
Every time I've brought her in for emergency situations, the staff has responded with care and relatively quick attention.
When I brought her in for a CCL surgery consult and then the actual surgery, requiring an overnight stay, I am going to go out on a limb and guess I was as anxious about it as my dog was. In advance of the surgery, Dr. Meltzer and staff did a fantastic job explaining the surgery to me - she spent an hour with me to talk through everything. I had gotten two surgical consults elsewhere and ended up going with Dr. Meltzer for a variety of reasons. I'm really glad I did. The surgery was ten weeks ago and my dog's leg is almost good as new. I highly recommend Dr. Meltzer for small dog surgery.
The only downside to PETS is that I found them to be a bit loose with the appointment times. I typically waited 10-15 minutes after my appointment time to be seen. So perhaps go in expecting to wait a bit past your appointment time.

Pet Sitting & Training
Dog Gone Good
2412 Valley St, BerkeleyMike is an exceptional dog trainer!
I had such a positive experience with Mike’s training methods. What sets him apart is his well-rounded approach—not just treat-based, although that's where the training begins. He integrates a variety of effective techniques that truly work. One of my favorite parts of his classes is the 10-minute puppy playtime before the session starts. It’s such a smart idea! The puppies get to have fun, burn off some energy, and are much more focused during the class. I’ve never seen other classes offer this, and it’s a real shame because it makes such a difference.
Mike is always attentive, ensuring the playtime is safe and under control, which makes the whole experience even more enjoyable. Seeing how happy and engaged my dog was during this time was the highlight of the class for me.
I’ve attended his puppy classes, and I must say, the class at the Presidio is the absolute best. The location is perfect—training in a place with so many distractions like the beach really helped my dog learn to focus in real-world situations. It also boosted my confidence in being able to take my dog to the beach and have a great time together.
Having been to a ton of trainers, I can confidently say that Mike incorporates all the best aspects of dog training. I’ll definitely be doing this class again!

Pal of the Paw
2326 1/2, Tenth St, BerkeleyWhen we relocated to Berkeley, California, finding a reliable dog walker service for our rescue Aussie Pan was paramount. A quick ‘dog walker Berkeley’ Google search led us to this gem - Pal of the Paw. Not only do they provide exceptional dog walking, but they also offer pet sitting services for those unexpected trips. Pans tail wags at the sight of her walker—she’s made a new best friend! It’s a joy to witness. Bravo!Pup
941 The Alameda, BerkeleyHighly recommend Sandi, her assistant Leslie, and everyone else in the organization. Just finished Pup 1 and looking forward to next level. Walter (the puppy) is a little rowdy and easily distracted. Sandi took the time and assured us he'll grow up and pay attention. We never felt as if we were not doing something properly, or Walter was a doofus. Her patience and ability to get any puppy/dog to do a behavior in less than 5 minutes is amazing. It's clear she knows her stuff and has been training dogs for years. The homework we received was great and very helpful. High quality, positive reinforcement training all dog owners should consider.

Pet-Friendly Restaurants
Royal Egyptian Cuisine
Emeryville Greenway, BerkeleyOmg 10/10 experience!!! One of the best food trucks I've been too and truly a hidden gem. As soon as you arrive, the owner makes you feel right at home. He gave us a soup to start with which was perfect for a cold day. For food, all we had to tell him was what were in the mood for and me made us a dish with a combination of different items. The food was SO good! Everything felt and tasted homemade and so flavorful. The portion size was huge also I ate half for lunch and half later. I highly recommend checking this place out. There's some benches outside by the food truck which you can sit at

The Starry Plough Pub
3101 Shattuck Ave., BerkeleyI don’t eat at the Starry Plough… I go there for the Sunday night Irish music jam sessions
It’s been going on for decades.
It is super amazing … Whether you are a Musician or you are there to just listen.
Sunday night… Especially between 7 and 8 PM… Is a special time to be there.
On Monday, there is a great Irish band on stage and lively Irish dancing in the room.
It’s like being transported to Dublin!
A very special place!

Tanzie's
1453 Dwight Way, BerkeleyThe good: solid food and drinks, helpful service staff, and great outdoor seating The bad: the wait as this restaurant does not take reservations My friends and I checked out this place for brunch today. Thankfully, the weather was beautiful while we waited for our table. We scored an outdoors table with a patio umbrella (helpful due to the strong sunlight). We ordered the appetizer (small dumplings), and market salad to share. The salad with persimmons, pomegranate seeds, etc. was a solid winner. We each got variation of lava eggs. I enjoyed the flavorful combination of shallots, Brussel sprouts, acorn squash, and brown rice. We even got to meet the owner! And our server Laurel Lee was most helpful.

FAVA
2114 Vine St, BerkeleyThis is a top go to spot for me. I’m not always around during their hours, or forget the options of places, so I get something from here about once every 6 weeks. As vegan I either get the falafel sandwich or plate. I prefer the plate. It amazes me how simple the combination of vegetables and sauces are, and yet it’s so flavorful. I feel full and healthy after eating at this joint and the people working there have such a nice vibe. If vegan they will swap out hummus for the yogurt based items.

Cali Alley
1012 Grayson St, BerkeleyWent here for a staff event. Amazing chicken and waffles, and the mac and cheese was really solid. Nice seating area and staff, many of us plan to come back. Only downside is no public bathroom, but they're pretty close to Berkeley Bowl so be aware of that during your visit. I'd definitely recommend the chicken and the mac!
