“Repeat female customer here. I manage a no-spray, organic veggie/flower farm and rely on Hida's carbon steel (CS) tools for quality, edge retention, and beauty; I am ALWAYS impressed. I have multiple Hida CS shears and pruners and so long as they’re wiped clean after use, they do appear to resist rust. Well-made and long-lasting, the Chikamasa T-600 shears are my latest addition. Thank you Hida Tool!”

“I appreciate this place :). OSH is old school and much more pleasant experience than other big hardware stores. They have all the basic. More specialized things might call for other stores but this is my go-to whenever possible.

Finding someone to help isn't always the easiest but it's likely because they are helping someone else.

I always get great support and friendly people.

Philip Rogers was working temporarily at the Ashby store from his normal Moraga location... And he was awesome. We tracked down exactly what I needed and had a great conversation to top it off about the history of sound recording for movies and music in Emeryville/Berkeley and some of the trailblazers in the area (which he is one of).

Thanks OSH. Headed back now for something I'm gonna guess and hope you have!”

“Francis Combes was my agent for a large and successful backyard building project this year. He is knowledgeable, efficient, good humored and has been very attentive throughout the project. My orders and billing were handled promptly and with refreshing courtesy. Pricing is fair and favorable. Francis usually had recommendations to help me narrow things down. He valued my time and attention. I appreciated the very full showroom with many products and displays to inspire me. I've been an Ashby customer for decades, and will continue to be one!”

“Over the years I've learned to skip searching all the hardware stores for the obscure bolts and fasteners and just go straight to Bowlin, because more often than not they have just what I'm looking for. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable and I would highly recommend Bowlin”

“Unexpectedly broad inventory of products and great selection within categories they carry. They have everything a handyman needs at a competitive price with far less chaos than lowes/home depot.”

“I've been purchasing construction materials and lumber from Truitt & White for around 12 years now. They have a good selection of materials, and most of the lumber is typically in stock. On the occasion that I needed to place a special order for lumber, they received it quickly. Their customer service is good. The staff is knowledgeable and well-informed about their products. Furthermore, the employees in the yard, whom I have known for years, are always friendly and helpful.”

“I had a great experience buying several dozen S4S maple boards (for a home interior decor project) from Tony Blomert at Ashby Lumber. Their price was reasonable, and they delivered exactly within the quoted timeframe to my home in Mountain View. And Tony's communication was very responsive, friendly, and thorough. Two thumbs up!”

“What!?! Another giant apartment building for students at Cal who can afford $4000 a month? Great. Those developers ought to be required to re-establish the businesses that they disrupt.”

“This place has a little of everything and a good variety too! Everything you might need .. they usually have it unless they're out! I really like the staff there as they are customer oriented and seem to really want to be helpful With whatever home needs you might have and have been very helpful when I have absolutely no idea what to do to fix a home situation and have been great about providing me with suggestions / options! Now for the bad part... Parking! That part of town has over the years been turned into a one way/ wrong way street area with only metered curbside parking if you can find one close by. That is the only downside to this place but otherwise it's a "Thumbs Up" from me!”

“Over ten years ago, I filled my CO2 tank for $12. I remember but going up to $18. Today, it was $71. I don't know if this is because Atlas is no longer an independent, local business, but OUCH.”
