“So I've been banking with valley strong for a few years. I see a few comments saying they liked it better when it was kern schools. To me everything is the same, you're still banking with a small, homegrown credit union. I've gone negative on my account because I needed gas and they give you a week or so before charging you a fee. Today I went in and Devin at the front desk was so helpful. He immediately solved my issue with my card not working. Great service. Great personality.”

“I got an email notification of approval for $5,000. I got the money in my account in less than an hour. APR was actually lower than what was in the email. Quickest loan I ever got: APR close to 10%.”

“Interesting experience. No tellers. You walk into a booth which is the same as the drive through with the container. The teller is on screen and you privately conduct your business. The one person in that whole building was super friendly and available for any help. I know that Los Angeles is the bank robbery capitol of the world so I would not be surprised if Bakersfield 90 minutes north would have problems. At first I thought here we go again, the lack of personal experience in business transaction. A Salt Lake City new McDonald's does not have an order counter. It is all digital. But then at the bank I feel safe and secure. I like it at the bank. I did NOT like it at McDonald's.”

“Our loan officer Nancy was the sweetest and most helpful person. Right at the end of her day she spent time to work with me, make personal connection, and help me with what I needed.”

“Always friendly, timely professional. There are some smarten up classes to do with internet security, financial planning, and other classes that I've been meaning to take. I guessing have to keep an eye out for their scheduling of such in the monthly bulletin/letter.”

“Ive been with safe 1 since i was in HS and not once have i had a bad experience with any location. i personally want to thank jose mejia. Every time ive had an issue with my acccount and/or had any questions regarding any type of loans he always goes above and beyond to help us out. If he doesnt know the answer to any questions we have, he will always ask around to make sure he gives us the correct answer. Hes always my to go person since then. i would def recommend safe 1 to anyone and also recommend them to go to him for anything they need. Not only does he treat you like family but so does everyone else in that branch.”

“Update: Someone called me back soon after I posted this review. They let me know that I was given incorrect information by the teller and that my name change records are available for employees to see. She was quick to make it right and accept my check as is. I am very happy they got back to me so fast and for making things right. This review is based off of my experience today. I’ve been a member here for almost 40 years. I’ve never had an issue until today. I got married last year and changed my last name. I got that updated at the credit union. Today I walk in with a check that was made out to my maiden name. I was hoping since they have on record my name change, that it wouldn’t be a problem. The lady who helped me told me they don’t have access to those records. She said I would need to bring in my old id with my maiden name or my marriage certificate. I’ve already done this when I changed my name. Why they don’t have access to these items, I have no idea. This is disappointing because I live several hours away and now I have to try and get the check reissued in my married name, which is a hassle because the company from which it came is hard to get ahold of.”

“Located in the Vons this little bank packs a big punch when it comes to customer service. The tellers smile and make conversation as they process the transactions knowing people have things to do. Not sure if it's a training center because they have a different rotation of tellers quite often. I've never had a problem cashing any checks and I love when the teller says "I'll cash it out and then deposit it" It's the small things that make a big difference”

“I''m 71 and remember, before online services, standing in line and doing the usual thing. Nothing particular good or bad about those experiences stand out. Banks are banks. On December 11, 2023 I was let out of Lerdo jail after getting hauled in for Drunk in Public. Stay with me. I had been taken from my home late the night before in Tehachapi by ambulance on report by my wife I had suffered a head injury in a trip and fall at home. I had been drinking some, celebrating the fourth night of Hannukah. EMTs transported me in sweats and a thin t-shirt. I did not have my wallet or a phone. My wife provided the EMTs with my driver's license and medical insurance information. I had never ridden in the back of an ambulance and I was frightened during the trip and the blow to my head when I got to Emergency. I was goofing with the EMTs while I waited for about an hour to been seen by medical staff. Apparently the staff figured me for just being drunk and forgot about the injury. They later stuck me in a dark emergency room on a table and it became clear they were going to have me sleep off my "drunk". My wife of 52 years requires my care for basic needs. I decided to leave. The staff wouldn't have it; I was their prisoner apparently. An argument ensued and I was then asked to leave which I did. I didn't realize how cold it was that night since I'd been indoors that entire Sunday. There I was trying to make it the mile home in bare feet with no coat. I got a few hundred yards and local police pulled up. Was I glad to see them! I couldn't feel my feet in the near-freezing temperature of midnight. They promptly arrested me for being drunk in public and disorderly conduct at the hospital. The hospital called police on me "for my own good". Yeah, I suppose they would know that putting me out with shoes in that weather wasn't exactly for an old guys with a head injury's good. I spent that night and until midday on the 11th in Lerdo, about fifty miles from home. It was the first time I'd ever been jailed. It was uncomfortable, annoying and I couldn't sleep. It's jail. The jail staff was professional and more or less accommodating. I was provided rubber slippers and I stumbled out to get picked up by some sort of shuttle to deliver me to a regional bus station in downtown Bakersfield. I don't know Bakersfield, and I sure didn't know where Lerdo was from home. I was surprised to learn I had $61 in cash in my sweats when I got processed in at Lerdo. I figured I'd get that back when I got sprung. The kept that cash and gave me a check on discharge. What the heck was I going to do with a check with no ID and no phone to call my wife? I asked about at the bus place and learned there was a Wells Fargo on 22nd Street, which meant nothing to me in directional help but I soon saw the bank sign when I walked the couple of blocks. I'm not a Yelp reviewer. I've posted a couple of times in all these years and usually to say something good. I looked homeless when I got into the bank. A wonderful and kind young lady name Carolina listened to my story when I present my jail check. My wife and I are longtime Wells Fargo customers and at least one account is stuffed with a lot of money. Carolina and another wonderful lady named Jessica worked hard to figure out how to get that jail check cash. I mean, who the heck am I trying to dun someone's account with no ID? I was so embarassed for being a public miscreant, apparently, and I'm still embarassed by it. Jail for goodness sake. What a panic to get home, eat, shower and sleep and be with my wife. (She got a little sleep the night before and in the morning to call the hospital and they told her I wasn't there.) Carolina and Jessica made it happen. They had keen ideas about how to protect a customer's account and help me at the same time. They did it! They helped me phone my wife and she was going to come get me. She hasn't driven in four years but made it down the sketchy highway”

“I've had this bank for years, Vickie has always been a part of my great experience . I've always received fast and efficient service , even when I show up 5 minutes before closing. The only reason I didn't give it is 5 stars is because of the wait time to receive a new card, I have to pay 8 dollars and wait almost 2 weeks. Some banks have where they can make a card then and there. Hopefully this can be upgraded in the future! Other than that please continue the great work! =)”

“Teller number 2366 was great! Every time I come, I am here forever but this time it was so fast and she helped me in record time. Even though the experience was short she made me feel like a valued member and she was extremely nice.”

“Purchased a car through them. Outstanding service: 1. They had the lowest rate--I got an astonishing bargain.2. They always supplied new "payment coupons" well in advance of each year.3. When I moved, I had no problems with account transfer procedures. 4. Auto-tellers were always polite, expert, and swift when I made payments. Inside, same gracious staff. Facility was always totally neat, clean, and well organized. ["Where do they get these people? Can I take them home?"]5. "Skips" [for Christmas] absolutely "painless"--a mere call sufficed. 6. Paid off loan early, without any trouble whatsoever. They said, "Sad to see you go. Come back when you need banking services. We'll miss you"!7. Post payoff documentation to me was LIGHTNING FAST; DMV notification and removal of "lien status" equally prompt. I was not "a mere debtor" to this bank. I was treated with the supreme good will and helpfulness I might find from my best friends. I felt like a "family member" receiving not merely funds but service and care. This is a bank that has not merely embraced but refined ethics of professionalism, courtesy, and good will for its customers. This is "best banking". UNRESERVEDLY RECOMMENDED.”

“I like Citibank. I hear people say they don't. I don't understand why they seem to be fine to me. I guess what I like the most is there's not a bunch of them. I don't like banking with a branch that's at every corner or inside every grocery store. Banks shouldn't be like convenience stores. They should be like financial institutions.”

“Opened an account here in July of 2021. This is my 2nd bank account the other is with Wells Fargo but definitely I'm treated 10 times better here than at Wells Fargo. Every time I've come in I've never experienced anyone in line as in other banks. I've never asked but several times I've been attended by the branch manager and she's always been fantastic taking me into to her office to attend of my banking needs. They have many branches throughout California which is a great plus 4 me and why I chose them as my 2nd bank”

“This is my preferred Chase location in Bakersfield. I have made about 100 visits for business banking in the past 10 months. The staff and security are friendly and efficient. I miss the drive-up (no contact) service, but am happy to be greeted by so many happy faces when I go inside.”
