“This hotel was built by my family (A. Castro) and I have always wanted to see it. I have called a few times but no one answers. I have only been able to visit the outside of the building because the hotel has been closed every time I try to see it. I truly hope it does get restored, but sounds like that’s going to require a lot of time and money. Grants, perhaps? ?I would love to chat with the current owners sometime!”

“Thank you to the management and Ben. We had reservations for several months. On the day we were to show up for our rooms, we had a medical emergency and had to cancel our reservations. Even though we were not legally entitled to get a fee-free cancellation, Belle Notte Inn did not charge us.Thank you for being so professional and compassionate.Ron Emilio”

“Perfect location for accessing all the fun activities in Santa Cruz! Jane is such a sweet lady! She is so friendly and takes the time to walk the property with you and explain what all is around to do. She truly cares about her guests stay and their comfort. The hotel is a cute little vintage motel stay, very clean rooms with a “comfort of home” feel. We will definitely be back!”

“Absolutely a pleasure staying here. Its location is about 5 minutes from the epicenter of fun on the beach, by foot. This historic house was built by a developer for himself who also designed and built the wharf on the bay. This is the house where he overlooked his progress at night with a cigar and a whisky, I imagine. The property is kept in immaculate shape. It’s preserved all of the old world architecture but with modern amenities, for example in our #5 suite, an outdoor private hot tub. The room was brilliantly kept, and the hallways stairs open up to a beautiful stained glass skylight.Special shoutout to Mary, whose hospitality was second to none. She is the master chef that puts breakfast together in the morning. She is amazing at her job, and she is a fountain of conversation.I will be back, my wife and I loved Santa Cruz (first visit) and will absolutely set reservations for this place again.”

“Very clean and comfortable room with all the amenities. The receptionist( wish I remembered her name) was so kind and welcoming. The whole place seemed recently updated and modern. We had the ADA room which had the large, roll in shower which was super nice for the two of us. My ONLY complaint was the water pressure, the heat was nice, but the flow was barely more than a trickle. Still, would stay here again.”

“Positive: Great location. Walked to boardwalk and downtown. Receptionist was nice and welcoming. Check in was easy. Shower had dual shower head.Room for improvement: The rooms could use new materials or updated. Walls seem thin. Could hear guests upstairs and next door.”

“The Islander Motel has everything I needed. It's clean and comfortable. The room is decently sized. There is a table and chairs by the window so you can sit and catch cool breezes. The bed is very, very comfortable and the motel is pretty quiet. The location is perfect and convenient to everything Santa Cruz has to offer. I would definitely recommend this place.”

“We stayed here on 12/16/23. The hotel staff was very accommodating and went out of their way for us. We were in town for a special event and we did get there before check in time. Also my Boyfriend has a short term disability of walking. I requested a downstairs because of this. Unfortunately there was no queen size downstairs rooms available. So they gave us a king size room. That was the greatest thing they did. The room was amazing overall we had a great stay. Thank you again for a wonderful stay and experience. I know this, we ever come back for a trip I will definitely stay here again.”

“Arrived yesterday afternoon and there was a mix up with our ADA room. Naomi at the front desk was on it immediately. She upgraded us to an ADA suite. We had to wait for it to be cleaned, so she offered us complimentary drinks while we waited. We have stayed here several times and this was the first time we have had any issues. Naomi took care of it quickly and apologized repeatedly for the mix up.Great to see customer service still exists!”

“Nice rooms, free breakfast. Location was good for what we were there for but it was in an industrial area/farm area. Sidewalks only extended to the corner of the street then the cross street had none and not enough room to walk and be safe with all the traffic.”

“The Monarch Cove is set on a cliff in Capitola with an ocean view of the Pacific Ocean. We stayed in the Monarch Grove, a romantic getaway within 3 miles from the Shadowbrook, so you can take advantage of their free taxi service and get picked up in an old school Shadowbrook cab. I highly recommend this for a weekend getaway!”

“Only stayed one night but very nice motel in Santa Cruz located across from the beach and boardwalk.Walkability: Less than a block from beach and boardwalk and just a few blocks from the pier with shops and where Sea lions congregate.”

“Only complaint is the walls could've been thicker, and no breakfast included. Otherwise it was a nice clean room, parking was close by, had a small balcony. And overall vibes were quite. I'd stay here ”

“One of the most helpful front desk workers I've come across.Rooms: Clean and comfortable room. Issues with blow dryer and wifi service and phone but made up for with good customer service from front desk resolving or attempting to resolve right away.Food & drinks: Normal basic breakfast buffet for Best Western but the highlight for us was the over the top effort of the front desk person to makes sure we as vegans had the not normally supplied non-dairy milk and amazingly even non-dairy yogurt. She went above and beyond. Now if we can just convince Best Western to step up the normal offerings and provide non-dairy option at least for milk. You don't know the difference it would make for lactose intolerant individuals or Vegan's.Noteworthy details: As mentioned the superior customer service provided by the front desk at this hotel.”

“I took my 4 grandkids to Santa Cruz every summer and this was the first time we stayed at Edgewater Beach Inn & Suite. Daniel (the manager) was the nicest person I've ever come across in my hotel stays. When the kids were swimming he brought them out towels to the pool. This place was very homey. We used the BBQ area, the pool, and the location was a quick walk down the parking lot to the beach! The entire staff were friendly and kind. The only reason I gave it 4 stars was that the mattresses on our beds were a little too soft. Outside of that all was great. On our last day there Daniel even let us keep our vehicle parked on site until we left for home. Thanks for a great time.”

Definitely will return.Rooms: Clean, lots of extra touchesNearby activities: Central to all Monterey Bay sights and attractions.Safety: Felt very safe for myself and my car.Walkability: Easy walk to harbor”

“Really reasonably priced motel for whatnot has to offer. I enjoyed my suite with fireplace and jacuzzi tub for only 195 in the summer! When other places were charging 3-400 for just a regular room!”

“They did some nice updates here. We've stayed here a few times since we have family in Watsonville, and they have definitely improved. Front office staff was so nice and friendly. The breakfast was actually really good and they had so many options. It's nothing fancy but a good place at a good price.”

“I have to say for this being a budget motel that's older it was very clean and the lady and her husband that works there are very friendly if your looking for just somewhere to sleep that's comfortable this is your place I called ahead to see if we could get a beach view since we were on our honeymoon they did what we asked which we were grateful for”

“We stayed here one night while visiting UC Santa Cruz. The neighborhood was fine, no concerns. The check in was quick & easy. The front desk clerk (I wish I'd gotten his name) was pleasant & funny. The room was nice, with the exception of the lock on the bathroom door being broken. Fortunately, it was just my son and I and it didn't cause any issues. It had wonderful blackout curtains that kept the room very dark in the morning, which was nice because we wanted to sleep in a little bit.The breakfast was great, with delicious waffles. Even the eggs, which can usually be dubious in a Continental breakfast, were good. The coffee was delicious.”

“We booked this hotel for our beach vacation and it was amazing. It's about a 15 minute drive to the beach so it's close enough to drive to but far enough away to not be super crowded. The staff are very nice and helpful. The breakfast actually had gluten free bagels and cereal which is awesome. And the hotel is dog friendly!”

“Was shocked to see their rating on yelp so low; then again standards and expectations are different for everyone. With that said found booking cheaper through hotels own website than on booking.com. Booking was simple and quick pay on arrival and room selected was as advertised. Cost was reasonable when looking at comps in area. The hotel is extremely quaint and architecturally beautiful. Upon arrival receptionist Jessica was very friendly, professional & knowledgeable of hotel and surrounding attractions as well as accommodating. She had 2 rooms available under what I reserved, due to having young toddlers I asked if I could see both rooms and she was nice enough to show me both rooms. We decided on room 202 corner queen 2 beds ocean view, not on street level with only one neighbor/room next to us, with shared big patio. Room had modern design, huge shower with nice rain shower head. The stunning view from room is as advertised online; right across from the beach, wharf and boardwalk. & although being right across from beach & tourist attractions noise level wasn't bad at all plus quiet hours were respected by other guest during our stay. Hotel is pet friendly which is always nice. Close to local attractions and numerous restaurants. Overall great experience and hotel stay.”
