20,000th Dollar General Store Now Open

Dollar General opened its 20,000th U.S. store on February 24th in Alice, Texas. It’s a major milestone for the discount chain that started as one small general store back in 1955.

Starting with a ribbon cutting ceremony, the grand opening celebration began at 9am. First customers received some freebies - tote bags filled with free product samples and snacks from DG's Clover Valley brand.

Dollar General also showed love to the Alice community in a big way. The company donated $10,000 to the Alicia Salinas Public Library and another $10,000 to the Boys & Girls Club of Alice to support education programs. They also gifted new books to a Saenz Elementary School.

"Today marks an incredible milestone in Dollar General's history," said Steve Deckard, DG's executive vice president of store operations and development. "From our first general store to today's 20,000th store opening, our mission to serve others and help customers stretch their budget remains strong."

Dollar General grows quickly with no signs of slowing down. With over 17,500 employees working at stores, distribution centers, and as truck drivers in Texas alone, the company is expanding to open more stores offering essential products at low prices.
