This is a wonderful museum located in my hometown. It tells the history of Campbell County and so much more. There are energy exhibits, a gun collection, homesteading items and very interesting rotating exhibits so there is always something new. I love to take my kids. The staff is helpful and always available to answer any questions you may have about the area. Check it out!

Wonderful museum on the history and geology of this area. Interactive displays brought many of the exhibits to life including short movies on mining.

Definitely interesting contents both inside and outside, as well as a great source of local history! Somewhat difficult to keep younger children interested/involved based on the exhibits and interactive portions though.

Took a chance and was totally delighted. There was something there for everyone. My 9 year old and 11 year old boys enjoyed the variety of displays. There were interactive, hands on and even one virtual exhibit.

Just a heads up, there are no rocks inside the Rock Pile Museum. This is more of a Gillette historical museum. They have nice memorabilia and displays featuring residents that have served on the military, past and current sheriff's, coal mining, and a lot of historical saddles. While the name is a little misleading, it's definitely worth the visit to learn some local history.

Being a Correctional Officer in Colorado I had a real interest in the jailhouse glass display. Them handcuffs are intimidating takin Care of business old time restraints!! I really wish I could have handled them drop forged beauties.Use em on inmates today. The rockpile is the location of old. chaingangs to work breaking rocks down. Great history museum. I'd like to work here with jail/prison memorabilia and law enforcement history of the Gillette area.

I have visited the museum twice in the last 12 months both times my wife and I where greeted by an unfriendly person at the door. The museum itself was very nice but being greeted at the door by an unfriendly person made the entire visit uncomfortable.

A lot of historical artifacts from the region. From dinosaur bones, to arrowheads, to 1800's rifles, old school houses, old cars, a blacksmith shop, a full sized caboose car, etc. Very interesting and well presented. Highly recommend a visit if you are in Gillette.
