Over the years I was really impressed with the Dorans and their hardware store - they did a great job, and I was really sad to see them getting out of the business. I didn't think anyone could replace them.I was wrong. I have been equally impressed with the "New Dorans". I tried to find a plumbing part in the south part of the state - tried Ace, Menards, Home Depot ... all of the retail stores. No dice. I called the big boys in Milwaukee and Madison; they couldn't get hold of it either. One of them could, but it would take 3 weeks and I had to order a pack of twelve.I got back to little ol' Waupaca, called Luke at the New Dorans, and he had one for me three days later.They only let me give 5 stars - I'd give more if I could.Ken Van Dyke

I wish I could award more stars. I’m a millennial, but nonetheless comments about this store standing for a bygone era somehow resonate.I had an unusual project, retrofitting a portable AC at my in-laws’ 70 year old lake cottage, and was at my wits end figuring out how to vent the exhaust in the absence of modern sliding windows. Luke, the new owner, helped me engineer a solution by running a dryer vent duct through an exterior wall and inserting it into a coupler that would fit the exhaust duct of the portable AC.He had everything I needed for the job, including a professional grade hole saw at a DIYer price point. He was helpful and consultative in a way that I haven’t experienced since I went to the hardware store with my dad as a kid. He was happy to lend his expertise and I felt that I couldn’t have paid him enough for the materials.As others have commented, I hope this place is open forever and I wish Luke the best as new owner.
