I'm the daughter of Hobart Finn, and I've seen my Dad spend his whole life working in and amoung trees and running this family business. It's his passion and it gives him incredible joy to do provide incredible cedar shingles.

We used a large amount of White Cedar Shingles' product on the new home we built in Grand Rapids. Service, quality, total experience all A+. I'm in the wood business making nearly everything except Cedar shingles, so I know the drill. I highly recommend this company for White Cedar products.

Excellent customer service and quality products sold. Never been happier. I would recommend White Cedar Shingles to any person in the market for reliable service and top-grade materials.

Not as advertised. Low quality and low grade shingles, that crack, split, have knots and worm rot! Paid extra for re-squared and rebutted and they were not! The lumber I ordered was of similar low grade quality with more splits and cracks and rot! The window trim was supposed to be smooth four sides and it was rough four sides. The widths and depths varied by 1/2"! I asked for a refund and offered to pay for return shipping and Hobart Finn refused. He threatened to sue me if I left his company a negative review. I'm leaving this review so others don't make same mistake I did. Be careful about doing business with this company because from my experience the shingles and lumber were not as advertised.

I can't say Hobart's shingles are bad or good.....I tried to purchase but never got the chance. I emailed, then called. Hobart did answer the phone, gave me a quote. The next day I upped the amount I would need and inquired about shipping. Never heard from again. It was a small amount and I know these guys are very busy. Then I saw the reviews. Guess I dodged a bullet.

Shingles are poor quality and Hobart Finn is not interested, at all, in making things right. claims that there are no knots in the "live" area for his grade A shingles. about half of the order was either not squared, not re-butted or many large knots in the live area. keep looking.

A must to avoid. I ordered A-grade shingles and received only half my shipment the first time around -- after making the total payment. The bundles were loose and sloppy and many came apart during transit. After I placed a phone call, the owner sent out the remaining portion of my order, which, if anything were looser and sloppier than the first load. Once the work started on my house, the real trouble began, with my licensed roofer saying he would not complete the job due to cracks and knots in a large proportion of the shingles. Most were not square, though they had been described to me over the phone as as good as resquared and rebutted shingles (R and Rs). Many of the shingles had knots within 6 inches of the butt end, despite a statement in White Cedar Shingles' price list guaranteeing this portion of the A-Grade to be knot-free. My general contractor was able to get the roofer to finish the job, provided I was willing to sign a waiver indemnifying them against leaks. They went to my local lumberyard to buy real A-grade shingles to do the other half of the roof. To date, my request for reimbursement has been met with excuses and profanity. Based on this experience, I would caution anyone against doing business with White Cedar Shingles and its owner, Hobart Finn.
