Yellow birch tree. I called my city tree people last fall to compliment them on the new trees they planted along my street and they said Johnson’s did it. So early this spring I talked to Johnson’s & ordered a yellow birch, about 2-2.5” caliper for delivery & planting in my front yard. I marked my spot & they planted it. It was a really tough spring with all the rain & storms but the tree did great. It just turned color now, yellow, the color of ripe pears. Looks great next to my big old sugar maple. It’s just off my screened in front porch where I sat all summer admiring it. I have a lot of songbirds & they love it too; they perched on the top branches to hunt bugs in the lawn. I also wanted to thank Johnsons for the free 3’ yellow field thistle that bloomed all summer & bumblebees are still on it today; it’s the gift that keeps on giving. Very beautiful tree. Perfect choice. Thank you.

Had (and continue to have) horrible experience with one sales employee. It’s so bad that I could never recommend this place to anyone. I’m scared to reach out as it’s unbearable.
Somehow it’s my luck that I more often than not have to interact with them (calling/emailing). I won’t name the person publicly, but a little more kindness would go a long way.

Great Native Plant Nursery! I feel lucky to have such a great nursery so nearby. I've bought 10 shrubs, 1 tree and several plants from them over the last year and they have all been great once planted. Most recent visit, Miles and Bobby were very helpful making sure I got the correct hazelnut size from the back and made the process as easy as can be.

DO NOT BUY FROM JOHNSONS!!!!! They have INVASIVE HORSETAIL WEED in and amongst their balled and burlap trees. It is in MULTIPLE places on their property. I bought 10 of their wintergreen arbs and had them installed last fall by my landacaper. This spring I noticed what I thought was tree sprouts around the base of all the trees and spreading out from the trees. After some research, found out it was INVASIVE horsetail weed. Went to Johnsons and took multiple pics and videos of the weed in multiple places! Johnsons was made aware of the situation by my landscaper and they basically said “oh well, run!” They wanted to take ZERO ACCOUNTABILITY for this weed that came from their property. After some back and forth from me pushing hard- Johnsons ended up telling my landscaper that they would credit the trees. But that meant my landscaper could only use the credit on more trees from them. WHO IN THEIR RIGHT MIND WOULD BUY MORE TREES FROM THIS BUSINESS KNOWING THERE IS INVASIVE WEEDS ALL AROUND THEIR TREES????!!!! My landscaper went above and beyond and did what a decent human SHOULD do! He took out all the horsetail weed and roots he could find, took out the wintergreens, hauled them away, and planted new trees bought elsewhere, giving me the exact credit I originally spent. Johnsons had NO problem turning their cheek at this HUGE ISSUE THEY WERE THE CAUSE OF! Do your own research on horsetail weed and see what it takes to rid it! I would have spent SO MUCH of MY time and MONEY trying to rid this huge problem. It had already gone into my grass- it spreads underground and the roots look like tree roots. The young growth does look like it could grow up to be an evergreen. BEWARE!!!! Do not support such a business that would do this! Absolutely shameful knowing the issue and turning your cheek!

Not only do they have a large collection of plants and trees, but what I really appreciate is the service- they always pick up the phone, they are always willing to answer plant care, gardening questions and make recommendations.

We needed help finding something other than evergreen type / arborvitae trees to create a “green screen” for privacy on our back patio. Miles was super helpful and made the process super easy in selecting and purchasing the perfect plants! We’ll definitely be back when it’s time to pick out more flowers / plants / trees.

These days great service is hard to find but I found exceptional service at Johnson’s Nursery. A special thank you to the entire staff; especially Julia for her knowledge and enthusiasm to help me with my first landscaping project.

Beautiful plants and extensive selection. However, very poor experience regarding help with plant selection in the spring. We choose a winter hardy flowering shrub in late April and their staff advised us to plant immediately for the health of our plant, thus we planted it same day. Unfortunately, they failed to advise us that any frost could KILL the plant, and that it may be better to wait until the chance for frost was gone. We now have a dead $100 plant that they will not replace. If one of their experts had advised us better, we would have waited to purchase.

We went with their We Plan You Plant. We even paid $75 for someone to come out to our property to see it for the plan because of a steeper hill. They did a plan and told us we had to kill the lawn which was all weeds first. So we used the lasagne method and planted per their plan. We have had so many issues from their plan ranging from plants being planned to go on our neighbors’s border, to bad erosion in the hill, to plants being chosen for spaces that are too shady.
They have a great selection of native plants but the We Plan You Plant should only be used for level basics needs, not anything with complex needs.
