Really liked this bank until about four months ago when I started getting wrongful overdraft fees for forecasted upcoming charges that showed up the day before payday. Interestingly, my paycheck was also forecasted in all incidents but never added in until after they charged me an overdraft fee. Customer service was good in the past, but today the customer service rep argued with me. I spoke with the supervisor who also argued with me. I received the $5 refund but was informed I wouldn't in the future because it was a pattern. It feels like fraudulent behavior on their part since I was never overdrawn. Will be switching banks.

Every experience I have had with UWCU has been amazing. On my most recent trip, I had to get some items notarized and was in a rush. Pablo Juarez was incredibly helpful and went above and beyond what was required. I had such a good time talking to him, I almost forgot I was in a rush and left in a much better mood than when I had arrived.

My wife and I have banked with UWCU for many years. During most of that time they were a competent bank and we had few issues. Recently we moved house and employed a few of the banks instruments to make it happen. Specifically, we established a HELOC on our original house to pay costs associated with establishing the new mortgage and then paid all that off when our original house sold and transferred the balance to the new mortgage and then recast the new mortgage. Initially we worked with an astonishingly incompetent person at UWCU to establish the HELOC. This was the sort of person who would establish appointments and then call them off right before hand - after both my wife and I had made arrangements to be there during business hours. This is the type of person who returns your call one month after you make it, and who is constantly out of the office. We suffered through this nit wit and purchased the new house. When our house sold we paid off the HELOC as part of the sale and then transferred the balance to the new mortgage. The company that handles UWCU special loans (ie mortgages) is DovenMeuhle - they mascarade as UWCU when you call. These guys wanted a wire transfer to a chase bank account in NY for the mortgage pay down and recast. We didn't want to do this, primarily because no one at UWCU was clear how to do it and we didn't want to be putting that sort of money up to chance. Instead we just transferred it from our checking account to the mortgage like one large monthly payment. This is where the largest infraction occurred. Dovenmuehle then moved the money back to our checking account in what amounts to an unauthorized transaction, stating that they have a policy where we must transfer the funds to their chase bank account by wire transfer. I explained that they have no authority or power or legal right to demand this. We could always make extra payments on our mortgage as we please and then request the recast without the wire transfer. They relented and transferred the money back to the mortgage (a tense few days to say the least). I presume the reason they want the wire transfer is to make money on our money by investing in some instrument at chase for the intervening couple of months required to recast the loan. The next phase was to request removal of PMI as we were around 80% equity after the recast. They now inform us that we need to pay for an appraisal through them ($400 dollars) to establish that we are above the 20% equity required to remove the PMI. Only if the roof blew off would this make sense. The mortgage was established with an appraisal two months ago, at that time we were at 80% equity - how could things have changed such that we now have less than 20% equity. There were many many other errors in this process that we had to deal with - too many to describe. We are planning to dump UWCU entirely and never cross the threshold of any of their branches again.

Both Jessie and Pablo have been absolutely wonderful - my partner and I were very sad when Jessie moved, but we are so grateful to have found someone who we trust in Pablo. He is patient with us and answered all of our questions when applying for an auto loan, and even offered to meet back up with us after we purchased a vehicle to show us how to set up automatic payments via the UW Credit Union app (which is fantastic, by the way). I would absolutely recommend UW Credit Union to a loved one!

I used to have good experiences but i'm likely closing my accounts and moving somewhere that doesn't block access to available funds. I have been on the phone with several people over the last few hours clearing blocks after trying to make a purchase at apple and then confirming it was me with visa fraud protection. One manager put in her notes she called me back. No, you didn't Laura. they told me to call visa, visa told me to call the bank. After going through all that and being told i could just get a new card (another trip wasting my time) or to call them first so they could block fraud protections for the day. Seriously!? Then I saw a return I'd just made was coming into my account 30$+ short of the amount it should be at. Absolute joke. I'd find a more reliable place to house your $ Oh and they straight up lie in their marketing about no overdraft. they do, they charge you 5$ might be better than 25$ but still a blatant lie.

I write this from the point of view of someone who lives paycheck to paycheck and isn't perfect. If you are not that, then you may have a completely different experience here. I'll start off by saying for a credit union this is the least forgiving bank I have even been apart of. Not only do you get negative fees for going negative, but they also don't even cover the funds for you. So you are basically charged for them to not pay what you paid for anyway. Not only that, I had one financially tough year so I went negative a few times. They then disabled my debit card entirely, and would not reactive it. The thing is, while a lot of this is my own fault, they make it extremely hard to deposit the funds in time to avoid fees or the payments being not covered. I have two bank accounts, sometimes I could easily fix the problem if they had a bigger window to fix the problem. If I were to recommend a better alternative I would easily recommend Huntington (if they are in your area). Everything thing I mentioned above is the polar opposite, and it's not even a credit union. I just assumed credit unions would be more forgiving, but apparently that is not the case. So if you're like me and sometimes struggle, this is not the bank for you. Huntington has low fees, gives you twenty four hours of grace period, and they even cover for you. 3 years later and I still don't have a debit card. I tried once but it felt like jumping through hoops and gave up.
