“I shop here semi regularly and today I slid in about 15 minutes before closing. The front counter was sure to give me (a Black woman) a ‘friendly reminder’ that they were closing. She didn’t seem to need to remind anyone else that entered after me.

I quickly and easily found what I had been searching for but became lightheaded and short of breath. I was also sweating profusely so I found a chair to sit down before I fell down. This helpful person came to remind me that the register was closing soon. No mention at all that I appeared to be in distress. I really loved the lack of concern!

Beyond that the be sure to ask the color of the day because they might be too busy defending themselves against the color of your skin to let you know.”

“This is a super nice store with a lot of beautiful vintage and modern style clothes, bags, accessories, shoes... A place must to visit in Madison. They sell them at a cheap price and the shop owner is a sweet lady!”

“Good deals and most of the staff is good.
If you donate clothes and linens, please be considerate and wash them first. Be careful of shop lifters who steal out of your cart. Also, I think the store should spray the clothes area with Lysol after they close. Sometimes the store has a bad smell to it.”

“FYI They do not buy items from the public. I have marked my review based on this point and on other reviews re: what they carry. However, the lady was very helpful on the phone and provided me names of other places who do buy from the public :)”

“Unique store. Neat variety of merchandise. My son bought many stickers which were $1 each. He also bought a banana duck which is so unique. There was local artist work for sale. There was random items which I really liked. Many of the prices were high. I do understand that it a locally owned store.

The shop owner recommended other shops according to our interests.

Warning: incense is strong”

“My recent experience with this store was a very good one. What made this experience so memorable was the interaction I had with Ms. Ellen. Ms. Ellen has a very calm personality which is an excellent skill given the chaos you’ll experience with the management team.In my experience, I felt like I was chasing after answers but no one knows what’s going on. Ms. Ellen on the other hand, looked at the situation, and calmly took control. Many thanks to her and other employees like this.”

“There are some great finds to be had here! With the exception of the "fresh finds" rack, it's $5 for any single item, $20 for a swap if you bring a bag full of clothing or $30 to fill a bag. Hard to complain about any of that!”

“Returning to Madison means that I get to visit this Goodwill spot again! The shop was very clean and organized, which sometimes is tough for thrift shops to do. Our cashier was super friendly and there was a speedy checkout process. She offered to wrap things up that were glass and wished us a great day.The selection here is usually great for housewares and clothing -- my two biggest categories! I find great glass pieces and usually a vintage looking item or two will be on the shelves. This is a smaller Goodwill and the parking lot is a bit tight, but they are my favorite location and I'll always drop by.Also their donation center is a quick and easy drive through -- love that!”

“Hello, I would like to take the time to thank the Salvation Army of Dane County for providing housing and nutritious meals. I arrived at the Salvation Army mid October, 2022. I had only been in Madison since August 2022. I lived in Chicago all my life so this was definitely a scary experience never leaving my hometown before. Although, I was met with homelessness I knew God would have to be by my side to make it though the biggest obstacle in life HOMELESSNESS. There was so many times I just wanted to give up but I just didn't know how to give up. So, the only option left was to fight. I was mentally, emotionally and physically exhausted. The homelessness for me started in mid June in Chicago now it's October and still no place to call home. On October18, 2022 the doors open for me at the Salvation Army I was scared, nervous and hopeful. I know I had plenty work ahead of me. I wasn't sure what to expect but I was ready for whatever challenge there was for me to face. Essential needs were provided for me food, clothing when available and a warm bed every night. I received meals that was prepared with a lot of love. Melissa McClain worked as an exceptional Case Manager. Melissa provided necessary apartment leads, information about accessible apartment, referral information for therapy, bus cards for use to make necessary business appointments. Melissa returned my calls in a timely manager, she always communicated any updates with me. I felt what Melissa provided is exactly what I needed which was hope. I finally feel like the is a road opening I just need to find that road. I must say for the first time I am feeling very hopeful. So, I decided I must help myself also. I applied for a senior apartment and I was offered a one bedroom apartment. However, I developed Covid and spent the next 10 days at The Microtel. I applied for the apartment on November 18, 2022 and I moved in on December 5, 2022. This year will mark 2 years in my new apartment. Chloe is another Case Manager that worked with me she was always so excited to help and she always smiled which made me happy. Positive energy is the key. Chloe went above and beyond with the help she assisted me with once I moved in my apartment.

I feel because I was afforded the opportunity to be housed and provided with the essentials I needed during that time. I was able to use that time to plan my future and figure out "where do I go from here" I didn't know the answer at first. So, I decided to transition from disability to employment. During the time I was displaced I had been disabled since 2005. So, my goal is to transition to employment I haven't worked since 2002. However, with the support from the Salvation Army I didn't have to think about bills, food, transportation or where I would sleep from day to day. I used that opportunity to plan my future. So, in January 2023 I reached out to the DVR to discuss my transition from disability to employment. I enrolled in Madison College HSED 5.09 program to acquire my high school credential. I started Madison College GED program in June, 2023. I am happy to report that I completed the program in January 2024. I will be graduating in May, 2024 with my diploma. I started school at Madison College in the Accounting Assistant Program January 2024. I will complete my first semester as a college student in two weeks. I plan to attend school this summer also. I'll take 2 classes this summer Personal Finance and Business Spreadsheets. I can't wait to continue my journey.
If it wasn't for the Salvation Army of Dane County I'm not sure where I would be. However, because of the Salvation Army of Dane County my life is filled with hope not hopelessness. Whatever happens in life never give up. I didn't give up now the sky will be the limit for me. The sky can be the limit for you.
I'm sharing this post in hopes that it reach current and future donors who support the Salvation Army because your support is needed and greatly appreciated. ”

“I easily found a good quality dresser for a great price that just needed a sand and paint. Customer service was great! The guy working helped me figure out if it would fit in my SUV and then helped me load it. I was lent a dolly and some moving blankets too.”
