UW vet school is the best, and i say this as someone that experienced a tragedy there. Our sweet rescue girl had taken a fall and been limping and lethargic for a month. We took her to our family’s vet who took xrays, did an exam, told us it looked like a torn ACL, and referred us to a very expensive specialist. I decided to make the 2 hour drive to the UW vet school instead. They got my girl in early and going by the xrays our family vet sent told us it was probably cancer and poor xray technique. They took one more and low and behold my sweet old ladies hip had been completely dissolved by extremely aggressive cancer. I cant thank UW vet school enough for, not only, telling me and showing me exactly what was going on, but also for giving me some time to grieve. My sweet girl is across the bridge now and out of pain. Our little friends just dont know how to tell us that they are pain the way we do. Thank you, again, UW vet school though i lost my shadow of a dog i gained a lot of faith in the vet school and especially the orthopedic dept.

We took our 16 year old cat to the UW ER vet last night at 6:30 because he had stopped eating and seemed to be in pain- he was growling when we pet him, which was highly unusual. After asking us some questions they took him in back and said it would be at least 20-30 minutes, and then we sat in the waiting room for 3 hours with no word. When the vet finally spoke with us she said she wasn't able to do a full exam because the cat was growling, and that further tests would require sedation, which we didn't want to do. Today we took him to Oregon Vet and they did a urinalysis, bloodwork for liver and kidney values, blood pressure check and x-ray, all without sedation. They also noticed that he had 3 claws that had gotten so long they had actually punctured his toe pads, and that one of those wounds was infected. The UW vet didn't even see this. Their report actually states 'no obvious lameness' and 'unable to perform oral exam as patient muzzled for exam'. It also says that they were unable to take his temperature, 'unable to do a CRT test' (due to muzzle), 'unable to evaluate BV sounds due to growling', and 'unable to access CN with muzzle'. They were able however to charge us $234 for an incomplete exam which failed to notice an obvious problem and some overpriced gabapentin which cost almost 10x more than it would at our regular vet. I would not recommend this place to anyone.

Very clean and professional! Saved our rabbits life and got us in quick! Staff is also friendly and knowledgeable. It was a drive for us but if anything ever happens again I know where I'll go!

we have cared for rabbits over the last 20 years. bases on our experience my wife and I knew the differential would be gut stasis. they wouldn't prescribe the medication all our rabbits have had success with in the past. so, they had to run all the to test and send us home with some anti-inflammatory med that didn't address our bunny's issue. Of course we had to go back the following morning in hopes we'd get a different vet, as there was no poop or urine in the litter box. We hope to get a different vet, which we did, who listened to us and valued our experience. The other vet just graduated vet-school, was too proud to say "she doesn't know much about rabbits" and wouldn't listen. the medication itself would have cost no more than $75. but for the two day visit and all the work done it cost us $1100.

Our dog Josie recently reached a huge milestone. She celebrated her 15th birthday on December 6th, 2023. When Josie was one year old she went for a checkup with our local veterinarian. Our doctor detected a heart defect. After some testing we were told Josie would not live much beyond 2 years. We were devastated. My husband asked for an appointment at Iowa State University's Veterinary College of Medicine, the only college of veterinary medicine in our state. My husband attended the appointment and was given the same grim diagnosis. He pushed to have Josie evaluated one more time at another University Veterinary School. Within a few days he received a call from University of Wisconsin Madison Veterinary School. They would be willing to evaluate Josie. It was decided she would have a surgical procedure but the outcome was not a guarantee. The staff at U of W Madison were absolutely AMAZING!! And because of them, our little girl is 15 years old!!!

I tried UW for my small terrier bc he needs surgery on his left join due to a Legg-Calve-Perthes. As I'm speaking with the tech on the phone, I asked to make the appointment but was told that they need to see the scan first. I contacted my original vet's office to see if they send the scan as he's to be cc on the emails they send them and I have received it immediately, called the tech she said they haven't received it, back and forth a week later. This didn't seem right plus the tech need some manners bc I'm trying to again explain that I'm copied to the email it the I received it, finally when I send her she asked for a diagnosis from the original vet, I told her that's why I send her the scans for them to give me a second opinion not to just repeat what was written. They don't do that she said, only when I come in and they need to put the dog with anaesthesia that's $800 and there's a long wait two months. This didn't seem right, so I asked how much is the procedure she didn't know and couldn't tell till the vet sees him. The entire time two weeks later I have no answers, meanwhile I call other vets the same day they receive the scan and vets call me with the amount and diagnose which is roughly $4000 no scans needed bc I have them. The UW tech finally decided to call me with a price $3900-$4900, wow plus $800 for the scan, I was told this place has lower prices but they are double the price in my area. two weeks lost. I don't recommend this place, from the tech that was snobby on the phone told me she didn't revive emails from my prior vet to telling me the scans need to be done again, nothing made sense. Found a vet by me for a fraction of the price under $2000 had amazing reviews and the same day within an hour gives me all the answers. I had scheduled surgery for my dog in a week, not two months. Don't waste your time these kids need to wake up that work there, they're not vets yet and a bad attitude.

Their negligence nearly resulted in the death of my cat. The vet offered me a choice between very expensive care I couldn't afford an an antibiotic. I chose the antibiotic. The vet said my cat had a 50/50 chance. I said I don't want her to suffer extra if she might not make it. The real problem was the vet tech. I asked if they anesthetized my cat. She said no (they did - she was wrong). I asked how to tell if the antibiotic wasn't working since the vet said it might be pneumonia but might be cancer. The vet tech described symptoms that are also symptoms of recovery from anesthesia. I asked how to tell if the drug was working. The vet tech said it wouldn't- my cat was dying 100%. I got angry because I had been very clear to put the cat down in that case. The cat looked like she was dying based on the vet tech's advice. I was freaking out. My baby was suffering. The next day I took my cat to the North Side vet clinic (BEST VET EVER). I asked them to put my poor cat down. Dr. Brooks told me my cat wasn't dying. She gave her a bunch of inexpensive treatments for a fraction of what UW wanted to charge. My cat lived. She's fine. But she nearly died because of the vet tech at UW who said they didn't do anesthesia and misled me that the post-anesthesia symptoms meant she was dying.

We brought our sweet 6.5 year old boy dog here for an MRI. It's with a heavy heart that the results from the MRI didn't go our way, and we made the difficult decision to do what's best for our pup. The staff and veterinarians here were truly incredible. Extremely thorough, patient and understanding. We're so thankful to them for taking such great care of our boy. If you find yourself in an emergency situation with your furbaby - bring them here

Our cat became ill while we were visiting WI. The local Lake Geneva vet tried to buy from UW Vet Care a specific medication - Darbepoetin to help manage the cat's anemia due to his kidney disease. The medication was recommended by the cat's primary care Vet in Las Vegas. But UW Vet Care would not sell it. Thus, we needed to travel from Lake Geneva to Madison to try to get the injection recommended by the cat's primary vet. UW Vet refused to treat Mario - because and I quote: 'Once again I am sorry that darbopoeitine was not able to be administered to the cat on 8/4/23. I understand the frustration associated with this decision, however, this is a medication that is rarely prescribed on an emergency bases as it requires in depth diagnostic tests, consistent follow up care and repeat administration as needed. Due to these requirements it is recommended to develop a long term relationship with a veterinary internist for its adminstration.' The UW Vet continued to miss that the cat was in the care of a veterinary internist in Las Vegas but we were in WI. We needed in the injection before his anemia became more critical - his HCT was 20.1% on August 2 and by August 5 it has dropped to 19%. UW Vet was the ONLY WI vet facility to have the medication - we had no choice but to try to seek treatment there. The 'consistent follow up and repeat administration' was an easy request of us. We could and would have continued to visit UW Vet for the follow up but the Dr. refused to listen or care. He was being guided by a 'senior faculty advisor' who NEVER came into the room. There was no compromise just NO injection. Instead, they would administer palliative care until the cat could be seen by a UW Vet internist on Monday (three days away) My interpretation: UW Vet Care only cares about the money that can be generated NOT the immediate care of the cat. The facility needs to redefine 'ER services' What is more emergent than an out of town animal who has not eaten for 6 days, extremely anemic and had a treatment plan from their primary vet (outside of WI) and secondary vet (from WI)? They risked the life of my pet due to their strict policies. Based on their ER definition the animal must be moments from death, bleeding uncontrollably or have an object stuck somewhere for the ER vet to care for them. I had no other choice but to fly back to Las Vegas on Saturday am and seek the treatment the cat needed since UW Vet refused treatment. I would never recommended this facility.

Since the University of Minnesota has no radiation for animals, this or Iowa is the only place to go and I went here and everything was good. It was a little more expensive than they originally quoted but it was still an overall pleasant experience.

After $7200 in treatment while they had our Lab and a pharmacy full of drugs since early to mid December they still as of January 9th have not made a definitive diagnosis nor will they communicate with our primary care vet. One of those "Oh we think it is" diagnosis. They had him for a week. And at this moment he is as bad if not worse than when we took him to UWVC. And they won't communicate with us either. In my opinion it's a legal drug dealer facility. A pharma lab.

Best care we have EVER gotten for our dog. Our dog was so relaxed with the staff unlike at most vet facilities. We are so grateful for our wonderful experience there. This school came highly recommended to us and we are so happy that we decided to come. THANK YOU❤️❤️❤️

I am so impressed with everything here, from the facility, the students, the doctors and even the front desk staff. Everyone is very friendly. The oncologists and surgeon answered all of my questions and were always available to communicate. I know my dog is in the best hands here.
