This place is such a treasure. Bring good photos of the problem you're trying to solve, and you will get patient, detailed advice that considers all the factors important to the success of your problem, like what tools you have access to. They've let me borrow a pipe cutter and given me helpful advice on what type of saw blade to use to cut a pipe, and tips to brace the pipe so as not to cause further damage....YouTube is great but a dialogue with a teacher who's expert in the field and old houses is priceless. The whole project to replace my leaking drain pipe, starting with advice-seeking at Howe, to grabbing the right sawzall blade at Ace to cut through the pipe above the trap, took about 2 hours of casual effort including travel time and cost about $21 in parts from Howe and a few bucks for the blade at Ace.

It took a few trips, but I was able to get my 1950's faucets repaired. I had looked for parts several places and was not able to find them, or someone knowledgeable enough to be helpful. Regan also helped me troubleshoot a couple leaky toilets which saved me a lot in plumbing charges. It is a bit of a drive for me but well worth it for the knowledge and parts for older fixtures, this definitely the first place I will go for future DIY projects.Service: Faucet repair

Helpful is an understatement to describe Regan at Howe Brothers. He was a godsend when we couldn’t get any plumbers out to our house in the timeframe we needed. He walked us through replumbing our entire bathroom ourselves. We are very happy with the results and learned so much about plumbing for the next project. Highly recommend this place!

Have been getting help here for a couple decades, for anything plumbing related - from my vintage tub and fixtures to PVC plumbing for my pond. I have no doubt I could get parts cheaper elsewhere - if I knew what I wanted. But considering I am also getting detailed how-to info (i.e. a considerable amount of his time) whatever I pay is a bargain compared to hiring a plumber to do it. Note that this is a professional plumber here, not an inexperienced big box stock-person so I would certainly want and expect to pay him commensurate with his expertise!

Howe Brothers always provides good advice for do-it-yourself plumbing repairs. They have parts for non-typical faucets as well. Once I needed a particular part that they suggested I come back with the matching part of the faucet to make sure it worked properly. It was good advice because not all of the replacement parts worked equally well in my old fixture even though they were supposedly identical. Even the best plumbing departments in a hardware store could not have been that knowledgeable. Another time I needed a part customized. They did it overnight with minimal charge.

It was a genuine pleasure working with Regan to purchase a new faucet for our kitchen. He went above and beyond to get us the hardware we requested, including recommending a fantastic plumber and hand-delivering the faucet to said plumber. Thanks, Regan!
