Made a reservation to pick up a car, but when I got there the place was closed (even though the sign on the door said it's within their opening hours and I had a reservation confirmation). When I called the national number they said that that branch was closed and that they had canceled my reservation without telling me. They also said that they would not be able to honor my reservation at any other location.

I would give it negative rating if it let me. We returned the car the same day (8/28/24) and they have not only not closed out our rental and removed the hold but charging us $100 every freaking day. If they don’t resolve this soon, I am going to have to talk to a lawyer. I have pictures of us returning the car (my instincts told me to click pics). And their cust service reps sound so vague and for sure don’t care.

Poor experience. Went there on two separate occasions to rent a car and both times were denied a car due to lack of inventory. The first time, we ended up walking into an empty office and waited 25 minutes until and employee came out of the back room. The phone was ringing none stop as shown in the video. She was not helping an employee and did not appear to be on a work call. We were told to come the next day and would be guaranteed a car as there would be deliveries over night. The next day we were the first people there and were denied a car again due to lack of inventory. We were told to try again later and that no promises could be made, even with a reservation made.
Going to stick with Avis or Enterprise going forward.

DO NOT COME TO THIS PLACE if you need a car for a planned travel! SERIOUSLY!!!
Also, DO NOT PAY ONLINE ADEAD OF YOUR PICKUP TIME!
I "reserved" a car on Hertz website two weeks ahead of our trip, only to find out at pickup that my reserved car type was not available and the only option was a much smaller vehicle, which left me no other choice but to settle for the smaller car. But to my even bigger surprise, they were not able to adjust the rate for that smaller car because they had no authorities to refund any part of the fee I already paid online at reservation!
Even worse, when I got my receipt, the part I paid online ahead of time was listed as "voucher value", which proves nothing that I personally paid for the rental. The staff said it was the only receipt I would ever get. They issue no other receipt showing any detail about my online transaction. This is going to make my reimbursement process a nightmare!
It really is beyond me why such a big company has such a terrible management on inventory and unfair policies for customers. They do the worst job even on the most basic business practice such as receipts.
Overall this was the worst experience I ever had. The only star goes to the front desk lady at pickup because she remained friendly in a position between a lousy outdated company and customers who feel ill-treated.
I don't know how good or bad the Enterprise nearby is but i am not coming back to this place ever.

This was truly the most awful experience I’ve ever had with any company. I’ll never rent a hertz again they gave me a car with low air in one of its tires it was 17 out of 32 in pressure. Was dirty they didn’t even vacuum the car! It needed an oil change, wasn’t even given a full tank of gas the lady reassured me she took pictures of the fuel tank that I don’t need to fill it up to return the car. She said to only fill up to where I was given which I did if anything I returned them more gas than I was given. Sure enough I got charged for the gas I called customer service they were extremely rude and didn’t help me at all. I had to dispute through my bank because I was told that a hertz manager would call me back and never did. Truly an awful company that don’t care about their customers

I returned the car last week and only received the receipt after two days. I was charged $20 for the fuel but I had filled the gas prior to the return. I called them and they told me they would call me back. A week has passed and I haven’t heard anything from them. I tried to call today but the phone never went through. Previously I always returned the car at the airport and I would get a receipt right after; never had such issues.
Update: After almost a month, I still haven’t got a refund even though I had been promised when I called again.

rented a car in march, when i picked it up no one knew the milage on the car and photos had not been taken so a quick run around was done by staff, returned as normal. received a letter 3 MONTHS LATER stating i owe for damages in the amount of 620. nothing was said about what was damaged or what they were charging for. i called the number on the letter and left a voice mail asking them to call me back and explain themselves. no return call, so i called the local store (odana rd madison) and spoke with the manager who i could barely understand. she was not able to give me any info either. this place has gone down hill quickly since the previous manager Mary left. i now need a rental and will not be using hertz

When I picked car it was filthy, believe not noted it only had 3/4 tank of fuel and worse yet it had been smoked in and not remediated. Very disappointed with this place. When I came to pick up car in middle of the day the office is dark and absolutely no one around. If you're going to have a business you should at least have one person maning the office at all times. Second time in ad many years we received a filthy car. Unacceptable.

Would give a zero if I could, I booked a rental two weeks ago, called to confirm yesterday and today they called me while en route to pick up car to tell me they don’t have one available. I will never book a rental here again.

I had made a reservation with Hertz for a car rental. When I showed up to pick up the rental, they said they had no cars on the lot or elsewhere in the city, and suggested I call corporate. I did so, and corporate provided no options within 1 hour away. Then, telling me they were going to check on something else, they went silent on the phone. 20 minutes later they hung up on me.
The woman at the desk tried to find cars at competitors, repair shops, and everywhere she could think of. She did everything she could. The issue here is not the location, but the communication between the location and corporate. Corporate deserves to sit stranded without a car in a zombie apocalypse. They were ultimately unable to honor my reservation.

My husband made a reservation at this esteemed location several weeks in advance for our trip to Madison. When we showed up to pick up, there was no car, and they could not tell us when another car would be available. We kept calling over several days but still no luck. Of course this led to a lot of wasted time over the phone. They had the nerve to charge us a $45 fee a few days later for not picking up the nonexistent car. I assume this business is a front for organized crime, since it’s not possible to run a business this poorly. If only we had read the other reviews in advance of our booking! Don’t make our mistake.

Worst customer experience I've ever had.
I booked a rental a month ago, and went to pick it up today. The lady working said she has no car for me, she rented it to someone else, and I'm just out of luck. She offered no help, did not care whatsoever. I rented this a month ago, and my entire vacation is ruined. Every hotel needs to be canceled. Never ever will use Hertz again, and neither should you.

I cannot recommend doing business here. My prepaid reservation, made a month or so in advance, was dishonored with complete indifference on arrival, and with no advance warning, despite receiving an email the day before that everything was good.
The front end staff claimed they "tried to call", but I don't believe this was true. (Phones have records of calls received...) Nor did they attempt to contact me via email or their app, both of which they had on file.
Just a terrible experience to be left in the lurch at the start of a trip. I wish zero stars if possible.

Called for a client who needed a rental, was told they would have a vehicle for him Tuesday morning. They assured me options for either a Mid-size or Full-size vehicles. He got there Tuesday, No cars! None. They blamed their corp offices for making the reservation without knowing the branch didn't have availability. However, I am fairly confident I spoke with the local branch when I called and asked about vehicle availability on Monday.
