One Star--because Zero Stars is not an option.
This property was among those hosting the Republican National Convention. My state's delegation was moved from another Madison hotel to this hotel at the cancellation deadline in June. Our understanding is that was done in part because this hotel was smart and included an attrition clause in the contract so that the RNC would have to pay even if the rooms were not used. We were forced to leave a better hotel to go to this property that is closer to a dorm room than a mid-level hotel. Despite the fact that none of us authorized our credit cards to be used for this property, they charged about 30 $200 deposits. When we were moved again just after the cancellation deadline, they kept the deposits even though the rooms were covered by the RNC...and these cancellations happened 3 WEEKS before the stay.
Several challenged the charges based on never having approved them, and this hotel is fighting like cats and dogs to keep our money.
Not only will I not stay here EVER...I would not stay at any Graduate property. This hotel is for Democrats who are happy they are sticking it to Republicans.
Safety: One of our delegation, who is a Member of Congress, was notified by US Capitol Police to not stay here because it was adjacent to the U of W campus and they had security concerns.

The room was really nice with a nice atmosphere. Personnal was nice and ready to help.
It is next to the lake and university.
Just the Coffee shop inside has no good sweet option for breakfast food and the bar close early.

I stayed for a conference and here are the reasons why I would not stay again if I had to book:
(1) They assigned me a queen room, which was essentially a dorm room - no closet at all, with hangers on the wall. The sink was like a public restroom sink, with no place to keep my belongings. They called it a "dorm style," but it's just a cheap and space-saving design.
(2) I stayed for 5 nights, and it was hard to keep my clothes in a super small room with no closet. I asked them to change my room, and they claimed it was a group booking, so they were fully booked. They lied to my face, and I later verified that they had indeed lied.
(3) The room cleaning and service were good. They cleaned every day.
(4) They do not have a parking lot and only offer valet parking, which is super inconvenient if you need to go and come back frequently.

Do not stay here for graduation. The location of the hotel is in the middle of multiple apartment buildings so you cannot easily get to the hotel because of student's cars parked all over trying to load up their stuff. The hotel has no parking so it's just expensive valet parking. We actually parked in a parking garage because it was a third of the price. It was such an ordeal getting to and from the hotel by car because of all the moving traffic- we were glad to park in a garage a couple blocks away and walk- it made it easier to get to the hotel. The hotel has NO amenities at all. Three nights was over $3K and not even a free coffee in the lobby. Someone reserved the upstairs bar so we couldn't even use it. Also, the street it is on is one of the only pathways from State street bars to the Greek life. So bar time was EXTREMELY noisy and we were woken up by the foot traffic and loud students even though we were on the fourth floor. We prepaid for our room but were then charged when we checked out- so $6K for 3 nights- still trying to work with management to get our refund- somehow they cannot find records of prepayment even though I have a receipt from them. Save you money at graduation and stay somewhere else... not worth the hassles.

The location is very close to campus, right off of state street and the library mall. It is a beautiful hotel. I had some issues with the front desk staff not knowing the ins and outs of the valet service. The valets went above and beyond to make something work for me, but it was frustrating. The room was clean and cute, but the head of the bed was in line with the door, and I had to stuff it with paper to stop the light from the hallway getting in. The breakfast burritos in the cafe on the ground floor were tasty, but small for the price.

I recently booked a stay at the Graduate and upon checkin they said there was a “maintenance issue” and they had to move us to a different hotel. Pretty sure they just oversold the hotel but either way they moved us to the Edgewater- who gave us the worst room they had available- it was in an old wing - down a huge long tunnel to the old section of the building with no working phone or Tv. We were able to get a different room but this was not comparable to the Graduate at all. By the time we got a room with a working TV - 1.5 hours had passed since the time of our original check in. Not a great experience and I would tell the Graduate not to rebook their oversold people at the Edgewater. Very disappointing as I had wanted to stay at the Graduate for a long time.
