They are generally friendly when you walk in and seem to really care for their animals. They have trouble answering the phone and keeping appointments. Maybe not their fault?

Great place to volunteer. I volunteer at the FIT center taking care of cats with Ringworm and Upper Respiratory Infections. If you would like to join in helping out animals, go to danecountyhumanesociety. org

I would like to bring to your attention the unacceptable experience my family and I had at a local adoption center. As a family with two young children, ages 1 and 5, we felt discriminated against from the moment we entered the adoption room. The staff did not acknowledge us and were hesitant to assist us when we asked to see the cats and kittens. When a staff member finally entered the room with a cat, she seemed uncomfortable around our children and did not greet them. We understand the need for caution, but we did not appreciate her pushy behavior in moving our children away and not allowing them to touch the cat. We were taken aback when she stated that she did not want them to hurt the cat, even though our children did not demonstrate any harmful behavior towards the animal. Moreover, when our one-year-old pointed out that the cat had an eye issue, the staff member yelled at him, which understandably scared him. At that point, we decided to ask the staff member to leave so that we could bond with the cat on our own. She was of no support and did not offer the children any proper techniques but complained they where doing everything wrong.Another staff member then entered the room and explained that they were protective of their animals. However, we found their behavior to be inconsistent given that the center had killed many pit bulls in the past and. Ive seen many other white families with small children in the room without staff so we did not need to be monitored. We asked to speak to a manager, but were given another employee who pretended to be a manager and found their response to be dismissive of our feelings. Then the 1st worker came back to the room as i talked withe the "manager" and informed us that the cat was sick and could not be adopted, which was disappointing and unreal ?Overall, the experience left us feeling unwelcome and discriminated against and we believe that the staff's behavior was unprofessional and disrespectful. We hope that this matter can be addressed immediately to ensure that other families do not encounter similar issues in the future. No other families had to have staff sit in the room and watch them.

I volunteer at the DCHS as a photographer, taking pictures of stray dogs, cats and other animals that then get posted on the website so we can reunite them with their owners. Great place to volunteer!! If you are looking for a pet to adopt, try the Humane Society. We get transfers from all over the state and the country.

I find it frustrating that you charge a fee to make a donation. It has stopped me from donating the last several years. I should be able to make a donation without getting charged a service fee.

Disappointed. I went there knowing I wanted a pup. Got there 56 minutes before they 'closed' and was told we could not adopt the dog we wanted because they closed out the adoptions for the day! They should just close 1 hour earlier if they don't allow adoptions after a certain time. Now the poor baby is stuck by herself for 2 days in the hard floor kennel!!!

Very nice facility that handles much more than dogs & cats. Open to support equestrian and other outdoor animals. Had birds, fish, and many more for adoption.Call or use form online to get time with an animal or two. There are places to sit and wait for your time. Expect a wait as it’s usually busy and volunteer staff is somewhat short handed. You can walk and tour nearly all of the facility and get a closer to the animals. We had no problem with the pet visits. Got to interact with several dogs. We came back the next day to visit again and decide on an adoption. Fees are fairly priced. They go through a lot of questions and numerous paperwork to review.Definitely a great choice.

Don’t count on finding your cat or a dog in there, front desk associate it’s not what I would call, corporative helping you finding your cat or a dog but, rather making this harder, you’ll only see the animals available that are for adoption.Other staff seemed to ok for the most part.

I love my kitties that came from here! These guys do a phenomenal job making sure the right pets go to the right families. Our girls are still spoiled after all of these years. They're rescues.
