If you're into game and nerd culture, this is the place for you! The artwork everywhere is fantastic and the bartenders are super friendly. We came all the way from Madison to check this place out and will definitely be back!

Every time that I have gone here, it's always been a blast! Mike (one of the bartenders) always caters patrons as he sees fit. I'm not super talkative towards the bartender, but he always checks in with me at the best times. Milton (one of the owners) is a super chill and nice guy, too.I absolutely love this place and the energy it gives.

I hang here a lot, like a lot a lot, love it. Sometimes I bring my crochet. I love all the boardgames and since they opened they keep adding moreEverytime I stop in they have added something new. Just recently they started serving pizza and did this wood burn stargate design to one of the poles. I love me some SG1.

First time visiting. Thought it would be fun.
Bartender had no personality and maybe says 2 words to us.
Games were few and far between.
Saturday night and the place was empty.
Place has so much potential but just not utilized. Disappointed. Won’t be back

I'm going to be generous and give our experience 3 stars since The Checkpoint has just recently been established and may still be in the process of being tweaked. The bones of the place plus much of the interior and exterior decor still remain from the barcade that existed at this building previously, which was called 8-Bit, and that isn't a bad thing because the theme is pretty cool and cohesive for what The Checkpoint is trying to bring to Kenosha. The Checkpoint has less arcade cabinets than 8-bit did but has revamped the second half of the building to appeal to people that also enjoy tabletop/card/board/rpg games so it widens the net and still provides a friendly gathering hub for those into nerd/fandom culture - just with more space for those sorts of activities. Another positive is that the game-inspired drinks we had were tasty and strong in a fun and dangerous sort of way, which is great and an improvement over it's predecessor. As for the cons there are quite a few...Unfortunately, several games and the jukebox ate our coins and with far less games to choose from the video game fans in our group were pretty bummed. They did get refunded by the bartender but it was still a pretty big detractor from the overall experience. Also, speaking of the bar, on the bartop there was a paper menu offered with a "The Checkpoint" header that had lots of food listed (pizza, mozz sticks, wings, etc.) and a time-frame in which to order. We were under the impression they didn't sell food so we thought that this was a welcome surprise and we were excited to order. When we tried to order we were told that it was an "old menu" but I don't recall ever hearing about The Checkpoint serving food before nor did 8-Bit during the vast majority of it's run. Maybe it was for an opening event thing? The menu had Mountain Dew on it though and I was told they don't even have Pepsi products so that's weird. It was a bit disappointing but if that is a menu they are working on for the future it sounds like it would be a slam-dunk! Lastly, and I know this part is getting a bit nit-picky, but even though we had more fun playing card games due to our circumstances, I will say that the decor for the tabletop-game half of the building leaves a lot to be desired and it's a bit jarring going from one half of the bar with wall-to-wall theming to the next with next to no decor. The tabletop area is essentially an empty room with a few large, long wooden tables and a giant unorganized shelf cluttered with old-school games. My recommendation would be to maybe lean into the existing wood decor to give it a true fantasy tavern theme or put high-fantasy maps all over the walls of that half instead of the small single Home Alone map adorning the completely barren walls. I get Home Alone is pop-culture classic but if that half is supposed to focus on pop-culture it needs A LOT more work to achieve that.Anyways, it was a pretty mid experience and I'm hoping they can improve so this sort of venue continues to stick around in Kenosha. It sounds like a recipe for success with just a bit of follow-through. At this point, without knowing of any projects they're currently working on, it feels like they're resting on the laurels of what 8-Bit was but 8-Bit ultimately failed for a reason (or several) and The Checkpoint needs to breathe some new life into the space they have. If I hear about some improvements from friends, I'd be willing to give it another try sometime.Edit Post-Owner Response: My review remains 3/5 stars. Instead of being dismissive and defensive by disagreeing with a customer over your bar's aesthetics (which I admitted was a more minor point) you need to focus on resolving the most important points of complaint listed in the review which were about sub-par customer experience, service, and problem-solving issues. Continue to be in denial and ream into legitimate and valid complaints like this and it will eventually impact other customer's experiences and likely

The Checkpoint is a superb addition to Kenosha. Upon walking inside, you're transported into a comfortable, friendly, fun game-filled and nerdtastic environment. There are a solid selection of arcade and other games, along with a very healthy selection of board, card and other similar games. You can tell there has been a lot of thought put into the design and decorations, from the different movie, game and TV show memorabilia (e.g., Planet Express Sign, This is the Way sign), to the cool hand painted bar map of Middle Earth and the handcrafted drink holders next to the games. The owner is super friendly and easy going, and it's clear there are plans to continue to invest in the design / experience aesthetic of Checkpoint, along with continued events. Definitely exceeded my expectations, and cannot wait visit again to see how Checkpoint continues to grow and evolve!
