Have visited a couple of times before, dogs are constantly taken back and forth to their tiny kennels and seem extremely stressed. bunnies, hamsters and mice are all kept in a small little overpopulated area and are able to be touched and bothered all day. rabbits seemed extremely scared by humans. visited the fish and reptile area in the back and to my surprise I had found a dead hermit crab in one of the tanks. the employee seemed uncaring when told about the hermit crab and i'm unsure how long it was left there. this place needs to be investigated for animal cruelty.

You can tell they aren't as dedicated as the Petland in Racine. Their website is never updated and only focuses on puppies.

Stood in the store for over a hour because the lady told me she will have someone come and help with getting fish and never got any help so I had to go up a second time to witch the lady helped and tried to get the fish out the tank for over 20 min just to say it’s to hard and told me someone else will be coming to wait over another 30 minutes wasted my time because they don’t wanna help with fish.

All the pets are such angels and the staff were very friendly, especially Ava. The store was very clean in the bird sections and fish tanks, and they had a great selection for fish. Would recommend for anybody looking for small critters.

Fish tanks in the store are always filthy with the fish inside showing clear signs of disease, not to mention dead fish rotting in the gravel and stuck to the filter. Bird cages and perches are always caked with feces. Hamsters are often clearly sick with wet-tail but still out for sale, and forced to have stressful interaction with customers. Store product is cluttered and chaotic throughout in the way it is arranged. It is difficult to find what you need and often when you do, it is incorrectly priced, extremely overpriced, or not priced at all. Selection is stingy in key areas you would expect a pet store to focus on like food and basic care items for cats and dogs. Don’t even get me started on the fish supplies. They carry filter units to which they don’t have replacement filter pads, and filter pads to which they don’t have the corresponding filter. It looks like a collection put together by someone who has zero knowledge of fish tank ownership. Staff seemingly do their best to be helpful but there appears to be very high turnover as there are always new faces and oftentimes staff do not know how to do basic things or answer basic questions. All in all this appears to be a business with incompetent or indifferent ownership. Maybe both. I will personally make it a point to shop elsewhere as Janesville has many better pet stores to choose from in terms of pricing, selection, and animal husbandry.

Stood around for half an hour after asking for help watching the people who said they'd be right there play on their phones.

**ADVICE: I filed a complaint with the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade, and Consumer Protection, which obviously did not go anywhere because Petland played the "well ANYTHING could have killed his bird, we dont know for sure it was out fault" card and insinuated that I didn't do my research on how to handle the bird to begin with. I've owned birds since I was about 10 years old and am well-versed in the care of small birds. if you purchase any pet from them, this is what I would do differently:
1a. Before you leave the store, get copies of the pet's most recent health record. Most of their smaller pets won't have one, but the puppies should. (honestly, adopt a puppy from the shelter, don't buy one from Petland - these are puppy mill puppies. they are also WAY overpriced. My westie cost me $900 from a breeder - $3000 for any breed is certainly NOT the average lmao)
1b. Get your animal checked out by a vet as soon as you can. I tried, but couldn't get in to the appointment before the bird died.
2. As soon as your animal starts to seem sick, immediately call the store and inform them. Take a record of when you called and who you spoke to, and what you discussed to remedy the situation.
3. Take lots of pictures of the animal, your receipt, and any results from your vet visit. If your animal does die (it's really 50/50 with the birds) you can file a complaint with the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade, and Consumer Protection and attach all that evidence to the complaint. It is actually really easy to do and takes about 15 minutes, and with enough complaints, Petland will eventually either be investigated, shut down, or forced to change its behavior.

I bought a parakeet from these people in Janesville WI on 3/12. Today is now 3/17, and he died this morning. First red flag was that I was told the bird's wings would not be clipped, but they were, and he had diarrhea all over his vent once I got him back home. Clearly had not been hand-raised and was scared of humans, even biting the employees to the point of drawing blood. Called the store to get a refund, they said they do not offer refunds or replacements on any of their animals, which is a glaring sign that the animals they sell to people must drop dead often once they go home with well-meaning owners. I had an appointment to get the bird checked out next week by my avian vet, assuming the bird would at least live seven days?? I'm sure the "breeder" they get their birds from is less breeder and more parakeet mill, I have worked with breeders before and no reputable breeder would send you home with a baby bird that was 50/50 on surviving more than 5 days. unbelievable. Glad I didn't let Cher talk me into buying a second one. Will never spend another dime at this shop.

I just wanted to compliment Samantha I'm not sure on her age but she was very mature and very helpful she took her time to break everything down and find out all the answerd to all the questions that I had. We have not owned a dog in a long time so it felt like it was new to us again but she walked us around the store she gave us advice on what was appropriate to use and not all in all she is exactly what you look for in customer service very kind and compassionate young lady and I very much appreciate everything she has done for my mom and I I'm glad we were able to give the puppy a new good home with the information that was provided and I appreciate it and we will definitely be returning customers.
