Left work early to come get plants, staff closed the shop 15 minutes early and was leaving on bike when we showed up. Very rude and unprofessional of this business.

I used to be a Jung’s regular; I’ve shopped at this location for upwards of a decade. Over the years, the poorly trained employees have largely spoiled the experience. Most recently, I inquired about the availability of sale fruit trees on three separate occasions (online, and two phone calls) and was told by an employee they’d hold trees for me for 48 hours. I went to pick them up with a helper - surprise, nothing was held, and my information wasn’t on their hold board after giving it to an employee over the phone. The manager apologized, saying their employee gave me incorrect info about their policy (you must pay to have them held, which I offered and expected to do but was told it wasn’t necessary!), and there was nothing they could do since they sold most of the trees. Another experience a while back that highlights exemplary employee training: a friend new to houseplants kindly picked up a variegated African violet I’d been trying to find for a gift. At 20-some degrees, she was sent out the door without any packaging around the plant. It burned from the cold in the walk to the car so I had a crisped plant unfit to gift anyone. While it is hard to hire and to be successful in the nursery industry, the customer experience here is sorely lacking and worse than I’ve had at any other nursery in town. Whenever I can shop somewhere else, I try to avoid Jung’s.

I'm just getting into houseplants, I know next to nothing, so I went to Jungs to talk to somebody who knows more. I figured anyone that works in a "Garden Center" would know more than I do, right?
Nope.
After about fifteen minutes of wandering around the nearly empty store I found an employee to ask if he could tell me about houseplants. He couldn't, but offered to get someone who could. He went to the young woman who allegedly could tell me about houseplants, but she was busy working out a register issue. He asked a different young woman to help me. She mostly managed too look at me blankly when I asked my first question, before telling me she also knows nothing about plants.
She did find the list of plants that are toxic to cats. That answered my first question.
Then I asked about fertilizer. She brought me over to the MiracleGro and told me that she thinks that's fertilizer.
By this time the woman that allegedly knows house plants wandered over and confirmed that that is fertilizer. Before either of us could answer any more questions she walked away to resume doing her nails at the register.
I got the hint that Jungs really really doesn't want my money and left.

Called to check to see if the hyacinth bulbs were in yet. The young woman was polite but didn't know what a hyacinth bulb was. Asked to speak with someone else but instead got her again and she said they'd be in later in the fall ?? Great, thanks alot. Too bad, I'll be purchasing 8 dozen somewhere else.

I would leave 0 stars if I could. If you're a person of color, beware of the Fitchburg location (I have no experiences with other locations). I was never greeted even when store staff made eye contact with me. When I approached a staff member to ask a very simple question (point me towards the potting soil) the staff member showed reluctance in helping me with anything and then started talking to another customer, a white man. My partner and I left without even buying what we had picked out. Went to Home Depot afterwards and they had a much better selection anyways. So much for supporting local.
