For some reason this is listed as a nice place to stay. To be clear: this is a converted motel, repainted to look nice but has no modern updates. Specifically, it acts like a young modern artistic locale and expects people to play LP records, but there is no soundproofing between the walls of the old motel rooms. This is a perfect example of what’s wrong in modern hospitality…then they market their original and upbeat restaurant, which serves “meh” quality food at an exorbitant price. This is the kind of place that your parents will go when trying to pretend that they’re hip.

Staying with a dog?? Read thisI would not stay here again. We called and made a reservation via phone telling them we would have two dogs with us. They told us it was a $25 pet fee per animal. We arrive to check in and they say the first animal is $25. The second is $75. How that makes sense is beyond me. And on top of that they charge $100 for accidentals…? Would have been nice to know ahead of time? They call the motel section “flats” however with the reviews I didn’t even think to look into what a flat was. Upon arrival I did, and they don’t show the building just the rooms… and a “shared balcony over the court yard” ?if we wanted to stay in a motel we could have saved a significant amount of money. It’s loud (traffic) and for one door it’s not secure with only 1 lock. Like no doubt someone could kick it open- so a good nights sleep with someone with anxiety is gone, yay.Driving from west Montana we wanted a nice stay, a good nights sleep and we did not get that. The bathroom door did not shut. The sink took a long time to drain. One small towel per person. We also wanted to stay here for the restaurant so close by, in the hotel. Yet it was closed out whole stayNot the experience I wanted, as I begged to stay here for the night instead of a different hotel- I said tbis would be a better nights rest for me, and breakfast is steps away-was so wrong to do so.Go stay at a larger hotel that isn’t a motel feel, and had breakfast included for cheaper than this stay!!!Also they so elegantly say “shared balcony” lol no it’s a motel. So please keep that in mind

This hotel is absolutely gorgeous and such a great place for a Wisconsin weekend gateway! Me and my partner wanted a mini weekend gateway within the state and we didn’t have a particular place in mind to visit, we were open to anything. When browsing around some of the populated cities, we found the Oxbow hotel! I am so glad we found this place, it was truly the best weekend gateway we’ve ever had!The hotel itself and room were spectacular and super clean! I love the aesthetic of the whole place as well. The record player in the bedroom was such a unique piece to have! Love that you could check out 3 records at a time for the room to listen too. In addition, you can check out some bored games for the room as well.We read some other reviews before staying here, and some other reviews were negative. But after staying here the entire weekend, none of the negative reviews of this place make any sense because we had such an exceptional experience here! This is the place to stay! No doubt, we will be back for another weekend gateway in the future at some point. We had such a wonderful time! If you have doubts, or are debating on staying here or not, just do it! You won’t regret it!Rooms: The room is quiet and private, we didn’t hear anyone else the entire time we were there at no point during our entire stay. We know it was a booked weekend, and I was pleasantly surprised we didn’t hear other guests, so the walls are thick. There is a TV in the bedroom. The TV was in the living room and not the bedroom, which is fine. We just cuddled up on the futon. Wish the futon was a little bit more cushioned, but that did not ruin the experience! There were so much pillows on the futon, we just laid them out on the futon and laid on top of them! The TVs are not smart TVs (at least in our room, I assume that’s all the same in every room). We brought our laptops and an HDMI cord to be able to watch Netflix on the TV. That worked perfectly! We also played some card games and bored games on the coffee table as well a few times. That was super fun!Nearby activities: There’s an ice cream parlor right across the street, and a brunch place a block away, including several bars. Another 3-4 blocks away is a cool arcade bar called the Reboot social! The place has duckpin bowling, and plenty of arcade games and food! That was awesome to be able to have a date night at that place and be able to walk back to the hotel in 5-10 minutes from it. Also in the same distance from the hotel, there is an awesome steakhouse and seafood restaurant! Great location to have a date night and a romantic night back at the hotel!Walkability: The hotel is conveniently located in Downtown Eau Claire. Food, bars, ice cream, shops are all walking distance from the hotel. We didn’t need to move our car from the hotel parking lot all weekend because we were able to walk everywhere!Food & drinks: We also loved that there is a cocktail bar and restaurant attached to the hotel, which is priced very reasonably for what you get, and for some delicious foods and drinks! It was nice to be able to go and have a drink just 2 floors downstairs from our rooms. So cozy! There was music from a band playing the first night there, and we didn’t hear the band at all upstairs in our room so that was great!Noteworthy details: The staff members were phenomenal, and very smiley, and happy and informative. They smiled or greeted you when you walk in the place, and let you have privacy your privacy. But they were there if we had any questions! There is no daily housekeeping in the rooms (at least from when we stayed), which was totally fine with us, because we felt that it made our weekend more private and not get intruded on by hotel staff. But we know if we wanted some cleaning or bed made we could’ve just told the front desk. But regardless, it didn’t matter to us! We loved it!

Staff welcoming. Hotel is clearly an oldie that has been remodeled as it still has the lingering smell. Room had small flying bugs that were bothersome. Informed front desk staff and response was simply "we know we have a problem." Bed was comfortable. Grab and go breakfast was coffee, water, granola bar, oatmeal.

Super trendy, loved the decor. Walking distance to downtown, restaurants, bars, and shopping. Great outdoor space. Unless there is additional parking somewhere else, the parking by the front is very limited.Walkability: Walking distance to downtown, restaurants, bars, and shopping!

Written description caused me to choose this place as a special night's stay. The concept is cool, but it didn't meet our needs. The remodeled hotel lacked enough plugs for our needs. The futon that doubled as a couch was super uncomfortable. I needed the plug, so had to not use the record player. There was black stuff in the grout grooves in the shower, which was creepy. Being able to borrow a thermos to take coffee to the room in the morning was nice.

I think the room was too expensive for what we got.I could tell as soon as I got into bed that the sheets were not clean.I slept on the bed and my sister slept on the futon and we both could tell our bed sheets were dirty. The room smelled off mold, stale cigarettes and body odor.Had to call the staff to bring up clean beddings. The only thing good about this hotel is the staff. And I rented one of the nicer suites. ?

Made a reservation, on my drive there and called confirm, they said I had a room. I arrived and was rudely greeted by the front desk. Then was told I had no room. No apology or no effort to make it right.

Cute little motel, turned hipster, boutique, music and recreation, focused hotel. This place was especially helpful to me as the city did not have a bike share system, but the hotel itself has many bikes that they can rent out to you. I believe they also rent out canoes and other things as they have their own “outfitters.” The bikes came with helmets and a lock, and we use them all day to get around town which is very bike-able and scenic. I rented out a record to play on the record player, but was not able to figure out how to get it to play at the right speed, which was probably more my fault than the hotels.

Nice people, well located. In a lovely town. Walk to restaurants and the river. Rooms clean, quirky, and the Flats allowed my schnauzer!

This property is a great price for the area. It is definitely a very walkable location. There is an ice cream shop directly across the street and multiple restaurants within a 5 minute walk. I made my reservation via Expedia, so I have learned a lesson to always view the property website directly. I reserved a room with a balcony. My idea of a balcony is a little different. The room with the balcony is actually a room in the motel section of the facility. It is not a balcony, it is the walkway that goes by your room. If I would have realized this I would have booked the "patio" room on the first floor so we didn't have to drag our luggage to the second floor. My husband likes to enjoy a balcony at night. This was overcome a bit because they had a community hammock which he enjoyed. One of the other reasons we had decided to stay at Oxbow was because they had a restaurant and bar with great reviews. We did not realize these are closed on Sunday and Mondays, which was the two nights we were there. It is clearly stated on the website, but not Expedia.(Once again, I learned my lesson to go to the website.) The room was small but fine. They really did a phenominal job in converting an old motel into a trendy place to stay. It had a phonograph that we did not use. It did not have a coffee pot in the room, but we walked to the lobby to get coffee each morning.Service was fine. Not exceptional, not bad. With all that said, for the price we paid, it was a great deal.Walkability: The perfect place to stay if you like to walk to restaurants, bars, etc.Food & drinks: The restaurant is closed on Sundays and Monday.

Very nice, clean, great AC. Love the retro feel. Bartenders were great, nice tavern & restaurant. Keep an eye out for the albino squirrel in that neighborhood. I spotted it running on top of the fence out back, very cool!

The Oxbow offers a boutique vibe with its free vinyls, outdoor area, bands, drag brunch and more. The problem was the layout of our room missed the mark. It had a sink/mirror practically in the middle of the king bed area with hardly space to rest a toothbrush and comb. So once one used the bathroom you had to slide the door open and walk around the bed to wash up. The TV was large but it resided in the living area where the “couch” was. Our room was slightly noisy since we could hear the band playing downstairs in the restaurant. On the plus side the music stopped around 9, the water pressure was great and the staff was welcoming. Again, not a bad place just not my cup of tea.
