In October of 2023 one of our boys was diagnosed with feline diabetes. Our vet at that time started him on Vetsulin. By late November he wasn't regulated. After researching the disease we learned that Lantus was the best insulin for cats and Vetsulin is just the least expensive option so that's why some vets start with it. I also learned we should be home testing. We were going in weekly to have his glucose tested at the vet. I searched for a local vet that knew more about the disease. We decided on Cedarburg Veterinary due to the good reviews and speaking to one of the vets on the phone at length. We made an appointment in December. During his appointment they tested his levels and they were too low. They had always been too high. She said it was likely the Somogyi effect where his insulin levels would shoot way up and then dip way down like a roller coaster. She instructed us to take him off of insulin completely. This didn't seem right to me after the research that I had done. I asked her twice during the appointment if she was sure it was safe to take him off of insulin completely and she assured us he would be just fine. She was going on Christmas vacation and said she would reassess him when she got back and that we would most likely start him on Lantus at that time. We scheduled another appointment with a vet tech a couple days later to learn how to test his glucose at home. At that appointment I questioned the vet tech if she felt it was safe for him to be completely off of insulin. She said she was sure he would be fine until the vet got back from vacation. She tested his levels and they were back to a high level. We tested him at home the next couple days and he was always too high. Then on the third day he didn't eat his dinner, which was not normal. We thought maybe a hairball. The next morning he wouldn't eat breakfast and was acting a little lethargic. We tested and he was very high. We rushed him to the Grafton emergency pet hospital as it was over new years and no one else was open. They admitted him and said with his very high levels and high ketones and was considered ketoacidosis. They called Cedarburg Vet later to let them know the situation. The three emergency vets we saw over the two days he was admitted all said being taken off insulin was a large factor in his hospitalization. After two days he had absolutely no improvement, he wouldn't eat, he was so stressed and just getting worse so we decided to bring him home (which they agreed was best) to schedule in home euthanasia. After a couple hours of being home he couldn't even walk and was clearly suffering. We had to schedule his crossing over the next morning. We did contact Cedarburg Vet a day or so later letting the office manager know what happened and how unhappy we were with their direction to take him off insulin. They responded with "it was just bad timing". They took no responsibility and didn't offer any apology. Oh, we did get a generic printed sympathy card. Not one hand written word or signature. Why even bother?! It made me more mad that they would send a card completely void of sincerity. So, we lost our sweet boy and we feel it could have been avoided. Vets are not always right nor do they always know what is best. His insulin could have just been reduced instead of eliminated and things might be different. It didn't feel right to me but I trusted the vet knew what she was doing and after being assured he would be "just fine" multiple times I let it go. Wish I had not. I imagine Cedarburg Veterinary Clinic is good at routine issues. But, I would proceed with caution with diabetes treatment or anything more complicated. If you find yourself with a kitty with this condition I would highly recommend going to felinediabetes.com for help and information. They know more than the vets we worked with in our area. I learned a lot from the administrators and members on that site. Unfortunately, I didn't learn fast enough.

Love the vets but the older woman who works as a receptionist is very unpleasant. Almost as though she doesn't want you as a client. It's too bad - there are so many other options.

Dr. Brewer, Courtney and Katie were simply amazing when my Swiss doodle grabbed the last bite of my raisin English muffin. Calm and caring, they all worked quickly to help her empty her stomach. They kept me updated on everything that was happening and helped me to not freak out from worry. So many vets take your fur baby and disappear for long periods of time. Not true with the Cedarburg Vet professionals! They cared for me almost as much as my sweet, timid doodle and got us through a scary morning. Follow up calls and quick bloodwork results were so very helpful. We're just grateful to have such a great veterinary clinic within a short drive of home. Highly recommend that you contact these folks for all your pets' needs. They are the very best!!!

My dog had a very long, horrible and extensive seizure on Sunday night, 11/07/22. We were unfortunately in a remote area at that time and did not have any emergency hospital nearby. I took her to Cedarburg Veterinary Clinic on Monday, 11/08/22. Blood tests were done but I had to wait for the results this morning. I received a call from the doctor that my dog needs to take Keppra 3 x daily and that I need to make sure to space them apart the best I could, daily. I provided the clinic with my pharmacy information including pharmacy's fax number. I was told that the prescription will be sent to the pharmacy immediately. When I went to pick up the prescription at 5:25 pm, I was told that the clinic never sent it. I called the clinic at not quite 5:30 pm but the clink was already closed, thought it wasn't 5:30 yet. I begged the pharmacy to give me even 1 pill to give to my dog tonight. I was of course told that I need a prescription for it. It is very upsetting that the individual who was supposed to send the prescription, did not follow through. It shows irresponsibility and lack of concern on the part of the clinic, as this is a medicine that is badly needed to minimize the risk of another seizure. To not care enough to follow through was indeed very upsetting and a bit concerning. 11/9/2022 I am adding an update on this review, in fairness to the clinic: I spoke to the Office Manager and the doctor today. I was told that the prescription was faxed to the pharmacy yesterday. The pharmacy indicated otherwise. The doctor re faxed it this morning. 30 minutes later, I received notification that the prescription was filled. My dog started having seizure last night, just glad that it didn't result to a full blown seizure like the other night.

Dr Schumacher and the team took such good care of our kitty when he was sick/injured from eating string...and they made sure we understood every step of the way. Highly recommend this office.

The staff at the clinic are very caring and very supportive. We had to say goodbye to one of our pets yesterday and everyone was so supportive. This was an emergency situation and our little guy had never been seen there before, but they opened their office for him and helped us make the difficult decision. Thank you for all you do!

We recently transitioned here and are so happy with our decision to do so! Both our elderly doggo and young pup see dr brewer. He's so great, spends time with them and answers all of our questions. Seems very knowledgable and is honest/informative when exploring treatment options. Every tech we have met has also been wonderful-courteous and sweet to the dogs. Dr brewer neutered our puppy and he had such a speedy recovery! We were pleasantly surprised. The place is clean and we feel safe having our dogs cared for here!

Cedarburg vet clinic is my absolute top vet that I go to. Let me start out by saying I am the furthest thing from a "fur mommy" and I own working dogs. I see chiropractors, Injury specialists, and holistic vets. My vet, Dr Brewer has known me since I was a kid and has been the best vet I have ever seen. My dog Jade has a wide variety of health issues, and Dr Brewer has always been on it. He never pushes spay and neuter on me, (which 99% of vets do, which is why I never return to them) and never pushes any kibble diets that I won't feed my dog. He is so incredibly helpful and genuinely understands my dogs unique needs. The vet techs and office staff know my dog and are so incredibly kind to us. I always will recommend and take my dogs to Cedarburg Vet clinic. By the way.. this isn't an emergency clinic. Not sure why the reviews are complaining that they don't take last minute appointments, and its because this isn't for emergencies. Go to your nearest ER clinic.

if you use Cedarburg Vet, be aware that they don't handle emergency situations. After we were told by the ER to have our dog seen ASAP, they said the earliest they could get her in was 6 weeks later. When I told them she is vomiting blood and we can't stop the bleeding without surgery, they pulled up her file and scolded me for passing on elective procedures that could have been dangerous for a 14 year old dog due to the sedation.

The care at Cedarburg Veterinary Clinic is outstanding! The staff has repeatedly shown me that they truly care about my animals. I also value how they've adapted during Covid. Allowing me to go into the building with my pet is very valuable.
