REI states they have a 100% guarantee of 1 year for members and I have been purchasing hiking boots at this location for 5+ years and have only had to return one pair of boots. I purchased la sportiva Nucleo and they are the worst hiking boot I have purchased. They have terrible ankle support, and the bottoms blew out after 6 months of use. I brought them back to REI where the counter rep and manager stated the shoes were used and worn and so they would not take back. This is against their policy of 100% percent satisfaction guarantee, and they were not kind during the attempted return. I will not bring business back to REI for hiking or camping in the future unless the situation is righted by corporate but not back to this store location

Do not bother with this location at all! NO SUMMER CLOTHING! Also, they did away with 90% of the mens section, so barely anything for guys.
It's the middle of July... I came here to buy summer hiking clothing for my vacation... was ready to spend money, like I do every summer. Literally nothing but winter and fall clothes in the store! Plus, the prices have SkYrOcKeTeD from what they were last summer!
Their solution is to tell you to order online... but they are completly flabbergasted when you reply that you have to make sure it fits before you drop a stack on such overpriced 'goods'... ????

Great experience with the staff. Their willingness to make things right was above and beyond many of my experiences at other retail stores. This interaction has ensured that I will return for any outdoors gear I need/want in the future.
After ordering the Base Camp 6 tent online and selecting to pick up my order in-store, I went to this store this evening hoping I could leave with the tent in hand despite my email notification stating the tent would not be ready for pickup until tomorrow. The tent that I ordered was the last one in stock at this location, and happened to be reserved for another couple who called in about this item 30-60 minutes prior to the order that I placed. Without hesitation, the staff apologized for the unfortunate situation I was in and offered to make things right by providing a comparable (likely better) tent that they had in stock.. I was then told that if the tent I left with was not satisfactory for the camping trip I am going on, I could return it and have REI re-order the Base Camp 6 tent I initially ordered... The biggest part that made this experience special was their understanding that I am leaving tomorrow for the camping trip.. AND today is the 4th of July. Thank you REI team!

Used to be great. Current leadership is prioritizing preaching DEI as opposed to offering quality gear. Be prepared for posters lecturing you on discrimination as you enter. I discriminate, I don't like junky padding gear. The store is working on trying to improve accessibility to trails for the urban areas. Milwaukee has a relatively good urban trail system.

Tracy went above and beyond to make our first shopping experience at REI great. We came into REI not knowing much about back packing gear and we left so confident and excited to purchase some gear she recommended. She was able to share so much wisdom and knowledge with us! Will definitely be back because of our great experience !!!!

Tracy was so incredibly helpful with picking out the perfect backpack for me. She spent a long time adjusting and weighting different packs so I was comfortable with my purchase.

As far as REI goes, this one is great. Always plenty of staff on hand, they are always helpful. As long as you realize you are paying a bit extra for really nice stuff and a brick and mortar location you can go back to, then have at it. Checkout can get a bit bogged down but at least you can look at all the pretty colorful impulse buys as you wait to pay.
