The desk employees are the first impression when you enter a hotel. These people are all very nice, and make you feel welcome as soon as you walk in. The room was nice and clean, it was spacious, and most importantly, it was quiet. I believe the layout of the building helps with the noise reduction, and we were towards the end of the hall, so that contributed, but it was great.

Excellent service and very clean rooms. Rooms a bit outdated but overall a great stay! Relaxed in the hot tub and enjoyed the Orange Moose bar!

I stopped here after being forced off the road because of a blizzard. Location is convenient to the Interstate, but almost all the restaurants are on the other side of the Interstate. Staff seemed very friendly. The breakfast was good. Even though I was not the only accidental visitor, the facility was very quiet. Overall, the facilities seem somewhat dated but well maintained. When I took a shower, the water started out brown but then cleared and was fine.

We stayed for a few days. The place seems dated but it's not a bad place to stay. Pool & hot tub. Bar. Didn't care for their complimentary breakfast though.

We consider the Surestay at Black River Falls to be our Northwoods cabin. If you love God’s Country you can’t beat the setup. The ATV/UTV/Snowmobile trails have a spur directly off the parking lot. You can even rent a UTV right in the same complex. There are four dining options without leaving the parking lot – The Orange Moose Bar & Grill, Perkins, Subway, and Taco John’s. The travel center there provides fuel and essentials, and we’ve used their RV dump station on return trips from the far north. There are even two fast chargers for electric cars right outside the hotel. Other nearby attractions include the Ho Chunk Casino, State and National Forests, the Black River and Wahzee Lake. In short, it’s a sportsman’s paradise. The hotel is built like a fortress – all masonry with fire doors from an era when they made things to last- the end result is peace and quiet. While not perfect, the maintenance of the facility shows ongoing investments in maintaining and updating the physical plant. Inside amenities include a swimming pool, hot tub, and the Orange Moose Bar & Grill. Outside, there’s a nice boardwalk along the retaining pond, nature trails, and a neighboring campground. We’ve visited this hotel many times over the last dozen or so years. The staff consistently delivers an excellent experience. I’d like specifically to call out the woman who runs the breakfast – she has been there for a long time and her efforts to provide an excellent breakfast in a clean and welcoming place reflect her pride in the work.To summarize, you’d be hard pressed to find a better place between Chicago and the Twin Cities to take a break, or to spend some time enjoying Wisconsin’s natural treasures.

We come here every year for our Christmas vacation to visit family. I love the staff. Very friendly. Shannon took great care of us this year. We love the great complimentary breakfast and in the evening we love relaxing with friends and family at the Orange Moose Bar and enjoy challenging each other on the pool table. They have made a lot of refreshing improvements to the rooms and common spaces. This is a great place for family to get together. Lots of fun! We will definitely be back next year.

The stay was great. The friday night bartender, however, (for the third year in a row) has definitely under poured our drinks, took days too long to help us in an uncrowded bar, and was extremely inconsiderate of our wants (we were definitely polite). We literally left our almost full drinks on the bar and went down the road to BJs for proper drinks, food, and service. Some of our group even went to the gas station and subway for better service. Definitely our last stay here. Saturday night bartender (same as the past 3 years) was perfect! Not one single complaint!

I can handle dated if its clean. There was still toothpaste water splash on the faucet and the mirror. Also behind the bathroom door something dirty and sticky on the floor. The hallway smells like old grease. Luckily it was only one night passing through. Thank goodness I had lysol wipes and cleaned the bathroom. I will never return. Alot of other options in the area. This one needs to be condemened!

DO NOT STAY HERE. The staff was fine, but it's the building that was unbelievably bad. I cannot believe you charge $160 PER NIGHT for this dump. Some sort of refund would most certainly be in order. My room had so many patched holes and they looked like they were patched by a child. My room, along with all of the other guests I knew that were staying there said everything felt moist. The sheets, the air, everything felt damp. My friends checked in a day before I did and they all had something disgusting with their rooms when they got there. One said there were stains all over his sheets, another said there were food crumbs all over their sheets, and another said their bed felt so moist he preferred to sleep on top of towels. The ceilings in my room looked like they haven't been replaced in 70 years as they were brown and dingy. The shower's caulk was so old, deteriorated, and moldy that it was basically non-existent. I've seen horror movie motels that look nicer than this place. I will never be coming back here and I will never be recommending this place. I want to make it very clear that my experience had nothing to do with the staff I interacted with, this all falls on the owners and the mismanagement of this building. With how much you charge a night it should be no problem to fix these things. You should be ashamed. If anyone has made it this far in the review I would recommend staying at the Ho-chunk Casino and Hotel which is in the area and seemed 10x nicer than this place for virtually the same price.

We went here for our anniversary. We specifically picked this hotel because of the bar inside. We could celebrate, have a few drinks, and not drink and drive. The bar never opened... On a Saturday night.... Sooo we just went to bed at nine instead. There are numerous other hotels to stay at in this area that are better kept up, are up to date, and are cleaner, but we literally settled for this one for the safety of having a few drinks and being on site so we didn't have to drive. We complained upon check out and asked for a refund or something to make up for this loss. She said she could give me a discount but upon looking at our booking she said they couldn't refund because I used a third party hotel booking site and I would need to speak to the booking site for the refund. She also begged me not to leave a negative review.I got a hold of the booking site who then has to call the hotel to approve a refund. When they called the hotel, they said that I never spoke to them and they never said any of this...So no discount...Beware if you are going to stay here. Their customer service is poor, their bar doesn't open when it says it's going to, the hotel is severaly outdated, and the air-conditioning/heating unit blew this weird black soot all over our room, our stuff, and us.They could have made this right and I would have overlooked a lot of this, but they chose to flat out lie about our conversation and people need to be aware.

If you have a saloon/pub/bar in mind, don't stop here...it's never open. The few times I've caught it open, they state no business is the why of closed or closing early. People don't come because they're frustrated with your hit and miss hours! This is not a work from home job!

This was our 2nd time staying here. We really liked it the first time (except for the water didn't get hot). This time...same water situation. The toilet ran constantly. When we got up in the morning I went to take a bath and the tub filled with rusty water. Alittle while later our bathroom ceiling started leaking water all over! My husband went and told the lady at the front desk and she explained the room above us had an issue with their sink. All she said was sorry. When we checked out I told her about the rusty water because I thought she should know. Didn't seem to care.I'm not one to complain, but I felt I should. Hopefully they'll take care of this place.
