We had a small family thanksgiving get together and rented the home for our stay. It was absolutely amazing. Everything was great. Can’t wait to stay again.

Rock Spring Retreat is absolutely amazing. We had our wedding weekend there, and I could not have asked for a more beautiful, relaxing venue. The owners were incredibly helpful and welcoming, and everything about the house and the property was wonderful. We particularly enjoyed relaxing in the sun room and looking out over the field and trees. It was a truly perfect place to stay, and we hope to return for another stay some day. If you are considering staying here, trust me, you will not be disappointed.

We had our wedding at Rock Spring Retreat this past weekend and had the most amazing time. We fell in love with Rock Spring Retreat instantly. The house is beautifully decorated and makes you feel right at home. We loved how we could stay at Rock Spring Retreat a few days before our wedding and have our friends and family stay with us at the venue.Tom and Walt were extremely accommodating and were very helpful with the planning process of our wedding. They constantly would check in with us and communicate any updates. We had a ton of questions and they were always happy to help us!We can't wait to visit Rock Spring Retreat again! Thank you Tom and Walt for everything!!

5/5! My husband and I celebrated our wedding at Rock Spring Retreat, and it exceeded our every dream. Tom and Walt, the owners of the venue, were top-notch: professional, thoughtful, flexible, and highly reliable, making our planning process stress-free. They calmly and thoroughly guided us not only through selecting exceptional vendors, but through event timelines, weather, décor, and everything else we needed. The venue itself is stunning, both inside and out, which left our guests “ooh-ing” and “ahh-ing” throughout our stay. Even though we encountered heavy rain on our wedding day, our weather plan (which, again, was guided by Tom and Walt!) made it so that we still had the wedding of our dreams. Truly, it seemed like our weather plan was the primary plan, because Tom and Walt were that amazing. Overall, we can’t understate our recommendation for Rock Spring Retreat—what a venue!!

Loved this place for a peaceful weekend in the country! It's a historic home with real thought put into making it feel comfortable for guests. Also love how it feels remote, but isn't far from good restaurants and shops in Shepherdstown. Also close to antique shopping and want to try the float trip in Harpers Ferry this summer. Would have stayed here a week if I could have, but will be back!

An historic home with all the modern comforts, sitting on a huge, scenic property. Rock Spring Retreat had ample, large bedrooms and brand new bathrooms, but the living spaces are truly special. The house features a huge living room, gorgeous library, a sun room and full dining room with seating for 12. We loved wandering the property as well, with a beautiful pond, hedge maze, nearby horses, rustic barn and an old salt house. The host had everything perfectly prepared for our arrival, and was very responsive to questions and requests. And at just 90 minutes from downtown Washington, we are sure to return to Rock Springs!

Endless wedding options!I stumbled across Rock Spring Retreat while searching AirBnB listings for a possible wedding venue in the Eastern Panhandle of West Virginia. While browsing the picture gallery, I immediately fell in love with its beautiful, historic farmhouse and mature tree grove boasting evening dinner settings backed by pastel skies and peaceful, green fields. If I thought the pictures were incredible, actually setting foot on the idyllic grounds is an enchanting experience! We even had wedding guests comment on the magical feeling at Rock Spring Retreat. There are endless options on the property for a ceremony site! Honestly, I had trouble choosing a specific spot, but trust me, there is no wrong decision! Likewise, we had our engagement photos taken on the property, and there are so many beautiful locations that every picture (engagement and wedding both) feels fresh and unique. Somehow, the house itself is just as beautiful and as charming as the grounds. Rock Spring Retreat blends historic and modern in a comfortable, yet editorial manner. It’s spacious, full of character, and offers all the conveniences of home while still feeling luxurious: the stunning bathrooms, the lovely kitchen, the picturesque front porch, and the commanding dining room table. Also, I highly recommend enjoying coffee in the sunroom while watching the sunrise! While staying at Rock Spring Retreat, we were able to host a get-together for friends one evening, the rehearsal and rehearsal dinner the following evening, and a wedding morning breakfast. Again, the options are endless! We took advantage of the bridal and groomsmen’s suites as prep spaces for the wedding. My mom and matron of honor both commented on how relaxing it was to have the makeup artist and hairstylist travel to us at Rock Spring Retreat and be pampered for the day in the light-filled, spacious upstairs bedrooms of the farmhouse.Once ready, the wedding party was able to line up in the house and walk right out the door for the ceremony (no traveling required). Our intimate reception was held in the rustic barn, also on the grounds. The barn was the perfect setting for an elegant, yet relaxed dinner, while also blocking some unwelcome, brisk October winds. To my surprise, the barn photographed even more beautifully than it looked in person! Our wedding guests fell in love with Rock Spring Retreat as quickly and as deeply as we did, often commenting on the well-manicured grounds and the charismatic farmhouse. We received many compliments on our ceremony and reception, even so far as it was the most beautiful wedding one guest had ever attended! If the property isn’t wonderful enough, Tom and Walt truly make it “almost heaven” with their welcoming hospitality! Tom and Walt were timely with communication, truly enthusiastic about hosting us and our wedding, thoughtful, helpful, accommodating, and relatable. My husband and I even found special touches around the house, including flowers in vases in various rooms, a handwritten note addressed to us, and a few tokens of appreciation. Following our wedding there, my husband and I were able to stay at Rock Spring Retreat for a few relaxing and romantic days. We enjoyed autumn evenings by the fire pit and danced to our wedding song under the bistro lights. Rock Spring Retreat will always hold a special place in our hearts, and we are very much looking forward to more stays there in the future!

We just finished a perfectly relaxing weekend at Rock Spring with friends. It's not only easily accessible from Washington, DC but also just minutes' drive from hiking, tubing, and shopping in Harpers Ferry. The recently and charmingly restored farm home is a beautiful space with plenty of room for large groups or families. As a baker, I was pleasantly surprised to find a well equipped kitchen with all the basic tools to cook for our group. The grounds are idyllic with plenty of space to relax and dine outside or toast marshmallows around the fire pit next to the garden maze and pond. Also, the owners could have not been more hospitable and responsive. They clearly understand how to make their guests' stay as easy and pleasant as possible. We would highly recommend Rock Spring to any of our family and friends for future trips.

If you’re looking for the perfect getaway from DC, visit Rock Spring! Only 90 minutes from the city, we got here on a beautiful fall afternoon. The setting is perfect - quiet, serene & peaceful. The house comfortably slept all eight of us and each room was beautifully done with both historic and modern touches (and with good WiFi). It’s a beautiful historic house located on a great farm! I loved sitting in the sunroom with my morning coffee, watching the sunrise. We’ll definitely be back!

I can’t say enough good things about Tom and Walt’s beautiful property. We used the house for our wedding preparations and rehearsal parties. Everyone who attended raved about the beauty and character of the house, the historic elements, the pond and the hedge maze! The attention to detail is exquisite! No detail went unnoticed by them and you can tell they put so much time and effort into making sure their guests were comfortable and enjoyed their stay. I couldn’t have dreamed of a better blend of historic elements and modern comforts. Being in the house took me straight back to the 1700s in the best way possible! Now for the details: The bed, sheets and down comforter were the best I’ve ever slept on! The kitchen came fully stocked with everything we needed to host a party! The Edison lights and fire pit were the scene of many good times with friends and family. Some of our guests even fished the pond (catch and release). The library was by far my favorite room. We could hardly count the fireplaces also! The sunroom was a lovely addition to overlook the back of the property. Even the art on the walls made me smile. The furniture and decor were clearly picked out with an artistic eye that overlooked no small detail. The historic doorbell was the cherry on top! It’s impossible to list all the things we loved about the property, we could go on for days!We are so grateful to have had the opportunity to make so many memories here at your estate! Thank you so so much from the bottom of our hearts!Lauren and Steve
