If they had a website or active Facebook page explaining what services are inside, they'd go a long way. Transparency is key... There's little in the way of shopping here. But what they've managed to do with a mall whose tenants deserted them, is really impressive. There's more occupied storefronts than not. Art studio, thrift shop supporting Animal Friends, weekly weight watcher meetings, a great hot dog joint, a custom sign maker, a variety of professional offices, a gym, a boxing studio, and they've even leased anchor space to larger businesses for entire offices. The mall is also very clean and well taken care of. Is it a 'mall' in the traditional sense? Absolutely not. Is it worth walking around just to check out some of these community minded places that have found an affordable, clean, convenient home for their dedicated customers. It's just different. To give 1 star assumes it was their fault all the old stores left. They're making a viable effort to continue existing by reinventing the traditional mall concept.

Mountaineer Mall is one of my favorite malls from this subcategory. It is a very quiet mall with only a handful of stores open. It’s reminiscent of a bygone era but stands there like time has stopped. It is clean, well maintained and has freshly waxed floors. It’s sad but amazing at the same time. A lot of the mall has been taken over by WVU & it’s different vocational centers. It makes me happy to see that’ it’s being used and not getting wasted away. If you’re a fan of of retail structures from yesterday than this should definitely be on your list.

I grew up in the First Ward area, and I remember going to this mall in the 90's and Early 2000's when some businesses like Elder Beerman, Sam Goodies, Subway, Great China Buffet, Shoe Show, Dollar General, Gabes, and Walmart were still open. There was also a video and video game rental store where the Liquor Store in Giant Eagle is now. It was nice having all of that tucked away right in the neighborhood. While those days are not coming back, I still think it has a lot of untapped potential for local small business, crafts, events..etc. However the mall needs a better marketing strategy, social media presence, and local advertising presence. If I were managing , I would consider offering discount leases to interested potential occupants and ramp up advertising for a year and see if it picks up any steam again.

I lived in Morgantown over a year and never knew this place existed. I just went there today. The mall is dead but is super clean and well kept. Usually when I go to places like that, there’s missing ceiling tiles and roof leaking everywhere. This place had none of that. It felt like I stepped back into the early 80’s. I love the thrift store in the old section. Definitely going back soon.

To the untrained eye it appears clean, but the floors are very brown, dingy and don't get cleaned for weeks and all the corners of the tiles are cracked like a Pot Head runs the scrubber at night. Lack of management that don't care will be the demise of this facility " You can tell people just show up to get a check" and with all this covid now days there are no sanitizing in place other then Clorox wipes used by their lack luster employees. Walking is OK, but you better have good shoes on or you might slip from all the over-spray on the floors. Where there employees with no proper training, shines the can lids to cover up 40 years of abuse. A new Mall Manager, Supervisor and Employees that can pass a 12 panel drug test and a Background check and this mall could bounce back like the Morgantown Mall. " wear good shoes if walking, mask and gloves" it might smell like pine sol but trust me its not clean.
